  1. Why do the Cubs want Gload again? He's garbage.
  2. The very fact that Mulder and Haren "put up comparable numbers' makes the trade a fleecing for the A's. Haren is much cheaper and Barton, despite your questions as to his value, is still a top 100 prospect in the game who, if nothing else, has great trade value. You have to branch your analysis beyond 2005.
  3. In St. Louis's defense, everybody gets fleeced by Billy Beane in his trades. It's not really something to be surprised about. They do? I don't think the Cubs, Tigers, or Braves have been fleeced by Beane in their deals with him. In fact, they all appeared to have gotten the better of Beane.
  4. And none of the prospects traded in those deals were REMOTELY near the level of Pie, much less Prior.
  5. Yes, I am sure Texas would be thrilled to trade a 25 year old stud who put up the 7th best OPS+ in the AL last year, for a major leaguer who can't stay healthy, plus either a minor leaguer who can't stay healthy, or a minor leaguer who might make it as a 4th starter. There may not be enough alcohol in the world to get Jon Daniels to consider that deal. Throw in Pie and Epatt, I don't care. Which is why it is a pretty good thing that you are not the GM. Sometimes you have to give a lot and get a young superstar like Teixera. That's never a bad move. It's a strategy that has the won the Cards a lot of division titles in recent years. It has? How, aside from the Rolen deal--which was for a FA to be? They got fleeced on the Mulder deal. To me, your proposal reeks a scent much more similar to the Nationals giving up Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon. How is that trade working out for the Nationals?
  6. I don't think that Broussard would be that expensive. Garko isn't that far away. I know he is a righty like Perez, but I do think that Broussard is going to get nudged out of the DH/1B there eventually.

  8. Right handed power that can play first and the OF. Who would you have brought up? Sing, who is still having troubles getting acclimated to AAA? Somebody that had potential to be good someday. BTW how many games has Restovich played at 1b in his career? Again, who would you have promoted? How is this a "bad move" by Hendry given the situation?
  9. If Lee is on the 15 day, no changes are made to the 40-man roster. If he's on the 60-day, teams have the option of making changes to the 40-man. So the Cubs wouldn't lose anyone with Lee on the 15-day. I think you are mistaken. Restovich is not on the 40 man roster. If he is brought up and Lee isn't put on the 60, somebody needs to be taken off of the 40 man roster.
  10. But is that one day worth potentially losing someone to another team off of the 40 man roster?
  11. Right handed power that can play first and the OF. Who would you have brought up? Sing, who is still having troubles getting acclimated to AAA?
  12. Prior has started 48 games over the last two years. He's missed a lot of starts. Maybe around 16 or so? Miguel Cabrera has missed a grand total of 6 games over the last two years. Prospect-wise, Hanley and Pie are right around the same (top 20-30 prospect in the game), but Cabrera is Pujols II... while Prior certainly has that type of potential (to be one of the best players of this era), he is way too big of a question mark. I really don't think the Cubs have what it takes to get Cabrera. You're looking at a team like the Diamondbacks or the Angels with absolutely loaded systems if you wanna see a team make a run at Miguel. What about Prior and Guzman or Hill for Teixeira? Would Texas go for it? That makes about zero sense after the next two months.
  13. Because Hendry has been known to make moves when we need help? Ramirez, Lofton, Simon, Karros, Nomar...ring any bells? I don't doubt that Hendry is going to make a deal. Plus, he doesn't make the lineups, so don't assume that he is content with Neifi starting at 2B every day. I have full faith in Hendry. It's the man wearing the #12 that I worry about, but if Hendry gives him better players than Neifi, I'm not that worried. Hendry is deliberate and slow when it comes to trade - how long did it take to get a 3B in 03? A SS in 04 (even with Alex Gonzalez injured)? He didn't get a SS when Nomar got hurt last season. Like in the spring of 2002 too?
  14. I think Tony Clark might be a good idea, AZ. is playing Conor Jackson at 1B pretty much every day now, they told him before the season they werer going to try to get him as many at bats as possible and kind of platoon him with Jackson but Jackson has been so good that Tony's basicly just rotting on the bench. Tony is not Lee but he would be a better option than what we currently have and he shouldnt be that hard to get. clark's contract is for 2 years. i don't want him. How much per year? He really had a good year last year and would be a nice stop gap. Maybe the D-backs would eat some of the contract for a decent pitching prospect.
  15. I think Pie and Prior could get either of those right now. Yes, they could. That doesn't mean it is a trade that should be made. Talk about a knee-jerk reaction.
  16. That line never gets old. Really, it doesn't.
  17. They were both hit and runs. Blame the hitters for not making contact on hittable pitches.
  18. It was that way until the Neifi defenders tried to change the tone. Now we have finger pointing?
  19. Pre-emptive and usually wrong? Um, maybe you didn't notice, but Dusty's first choice was to insert Neifi into the lineup. He's used Neifi as his go to guy before in tight spots, and clearly has an affinity for Neifi. Anybody expressing concern about Neifi getting more playing time due to this is absolutely justified. Has it ever been pointed out here that Neifi is making a serious run at the title of worst hitter in the history of baseball? Substituting Neifi for anyone in your lineup is a bad thing, substituting Neifi for Lee is worthy of crying. Only about 300,000,000,000 times. It's should also be noted an equal amount of times that Neifi is responsible for terrorism, slavery back in the 19th century, genocide in Africa, global warming, and the loss of every species that is now extinct. Stupid Neifi. No, see, the truth is he really does suck and hurts the team when he plays. Those other things are obviously untrue, which is why we don't talk about them when discussing the Cubs and/or Neifi. We talk about his suckage because he really does suck. I'm not saying he is a good player overall, but could you please point out to me how he hurt the team in last night's game?
  20. Exactly. Nice post.
  21. better yet, put it over Dusty's head. Well Neifi has kinda saved us tonight. LETS CUT DERREK LEE AND PUT HIM AT 1B GREAT IDEA. What are you talking about?
  22. If he is out for 4-6, they have to bring up Sing don't they? I'm not sure I could stomach Mabry/Walker at first.
