    Pettite's talking about retirement. Wilson hasn't been linked to anyone, so he might have just accepted. The kicker to me is Graffanino, he had interest until the Brew-crew offered him Arb. Now, he's probably just going to accept it from them. But where is the risk in offering either of them?

    A couple of shockers to me are Craig Wilson and Andy Pettite not getting offered arbitration.

    Actually, I disagree. I prefer Jennings. Outside of Coors, I really think he will be a very good #3.

    What happened to Murton, do they not know that he's on our roster? I didn't even notice that part. I'm assuming such a series of events would leave the lineup looking like: Soriano Lugo Lee Ramirez Barrett Murton DeRosa Izturis That is not something I'd like to see. I don't mind it if our rotation is: Z Schmidt Jennings Hill Prior/Miller

    He was going up against some pretty good lineups out east. Westrbook did to in the central, but pitching in the AL east will lead to a lot of homers given up. Factor in the fact he'd be coming into the NL with a lot less homers, and without a DH as well. Not if he plays his home games at Wrigley Field. I thought Wrigley was rated as a somewhat neutral ballpark? Yes, I know the power alleys are shallow, but the wind blows in just as much as it blows out.

    Meche will be a good pitcher for some team, it's just highly unlikely that he'll be worth what he is paid. If he were only to make 5-6M a year, I would have no problem with the Cubs signing him. 9M is too steep though.

    ONE offseason? I say he's had two in a row. He got lucky to have an ERA in the 3.00s in 2005 with that 1.35 WHIP.

    It's a pipe dream. Figgins will be starting somewhere and Victorino isn't going anywhere.

    Actually, if he went back to Japan for the next season, he would be a free agent after that--no more posting involved.

    That would only be a foolish move if he were guaranteed to have another year like last year. And he's not.

    Tracy is 5 years younger. He has a 20 point higher career OBP. He has a 30 point higher career OPS. He had an OPS of .911 at 25, which is about 60 points better than Jones has EVER had. He can play LF, 1B, and 3B. Tracy is only due 2.75M and 3.75M over the next two years, just over 1/2 of what Jones is owed. I guess they are equally bad against lefties. He can grow a better goatee. Like I said, Tracy easily has more value than Jones.

    I agree. If they're willing to part with one of them for someone like Chad Tracy, they should be willing to part with them for Jones. I don't agree with your logic here AT ALL. Tracy has a ton more value than Jones. A ton.

    That's quite an assumption to make considering Hall is toolsy as heck--just the kind of guy that Hendry seems to be infatuated with.

    I agree but is that enough production? It may be but IMO Jones could be moved for a pitcher and the Cubs could sign a Roberts or Lofton. The problem with Roberts is that he would be in Pies way if it was a long term contract. If Jones can pull off playing a decent defensive center field, he is (rather easily) a better offensive option than Roberts or Lofton.

    You don't want Suppan as a #2-3. He would MAYBE be ok as a #4.

    With a healthy DLee, and replacing Neifi and Pierre with Derosa and Soriano, you are going to be disappointed in that projection. Plus, I think that having Perry as a hitting coach will only help as well.

    I'm not convinced he's going to be amazing, but for some reason I'm really excited for when Pie finally makes it on the Cubs. Probably just because I've been hearing about him for so long. If nothing else, his amazing defensive range in center and pure athletic ability will be something very interesting to watch.

    Why does age matter in this case? The concern is protecting guys that could maybe be hidden on a MLB roster elsewhere and stick. Apparently, they think Cherry could help a bad team in the bullpen all year and stick.

    Plus, if he signs this early, the Cubs won't have to make an arbitration decision on him and will (I think) get a sandwich pick for losing him.
