  1. jim hickey and chili davis taking credit for david bote and cole hamels
  2. that is our first non-solo home run of the year, per elias
  3. this is not popular but i dont care if they do robot umps or not. you get screwed sometimes, other people get screwed sometimes. I dunno, I just don't really care. We have replay now and it seems to work about half the time anyway. anyway im not anti-robot umps, im sure it will be fine if/when it happens. I just don't care if it does or not.
  4. thankfully i can guarantee you that bote continues to play at a 9 WAR pace
  5. Still 5 games behind in the loss column and only 3 more H2H games between them and the Cubs (last 3 games of the year). Defenitely more concerned than I was a week ago though. The cardinals are only catching the cubs if the cubs completely fall apart. And if we completely fall apart Milwaukee is passing us anyway.
  6. Continues to be the best FA signing in cubs history
  7. Lmao it’s so embarassing I'm glad we all agree that the constant doom-bonering is embarrassing. You’re like the Donald trump stans who flock to Twitter after every misstep he makes to point out that “actually it’s good” or “yeah but he fixed the economy!” It’s a fun gimmick but it doesn’t make you worth interacting with anymore.
  8. if you were a true pessimist you would point out that our pre-ASB record was bolstered by flukishly good results from bad pitching. Once reality caught up to our rotation, the wheels have come off.
  9. i still cant believe quintana is this bad lmao
  10. yeah brewers should be able to tack on a half dozen more or so
  11. lol turned it off. hopefully bote gets an at bat
  12. Oh, I agree. I just figured David would have numbers to prove otherwise. Dude loves shoveling out cumulative rankings and pretending like it's somehow guaranteeing which version of the 2018 Cubs is going to stagger across the finish line. right on cue lol
  13. Hopefully that is the only one. narrator voice: it wasnt
  14. i dont think anything martinez does as a hitter is cheap, i just think if you hypothetically put trout in a situation where he was a table clearer for a team that always had guys on, rather than a table-setter with a couple broke dicks batting in front of him, that he'd be better. yeah i don't disagree, but MVP isn't supposed to be a theoretical though with the opportunities he's been given he's fallen far short of what Martinez has done with his opportunities; that's mostly true of every other hitter really maybe this is where i also point out JD's been ~2 full wins better than Trout in WPA I can totally go with that - i've always hated the idea that because we've decided that RBIs aren't predictive that they aren't "valuable." Like maybe some dude goes buck wild and has a .450 BABIP all year, we can't vote for him because he was luckier than someone else? but anyway if not trout i'd still give it to ramirez or betts, or even lindor.

  16. Yeah no way would I vote for JD, even though he's having a great offensive year, but I could get behind Betts or Ramirez. Especially if this Trout injury keeps him out or makes him bad the rest of the year. I just can't see giving the MVP to a DH only when there's plenty of good other candidates and that DH isn't on pace to set or get close to HR, BA, etc records. he's on pace for 150 RBI low leverage: 150 wRC+ medium leverage: 208 wRC+ high leverage: 272 wRC+ (.483/.590/.862) with men on base, he's hitting .347/.427/.698 nobody seems to understand how Boston's 50(!) games over, but i have a couple ideas I hate treating awards like you just look at WAR and go "well there you go" so I'm with you there. But Martinez has spent all year with Mookie (.438 OBP and more importantly 39 doubles or triples mostly out of leadoff) and Benentendi (.383 OBP) right in front of him. Meanwhile Trout bats behind Kole Calhoun, who was hitting under .200 as recently as late July, and Ian Kinsler (.308 OBP, got shipped off ironically to boston at the deadline.) It's no secret why trout gets "walks instead of XBH." But anyway i hope people do keep voting against him so he'll pull a bonds and roid up and really break horsefeathers for a decade.
  17. i think i'm totally on board with this, and i might go a step further to make it really scorching and say he might not be top-5 for me at the moment did you know: Trout has worst clutch score in baseball right now no horsefeathering way is martinez and mvp over trout, even though holy horsefeathers martinez is horsefeathering good. but im down with betts or ramirez.
  18. he was like thiiiiis close to saying horsefeathers it and joining the celebration. look at that lustful look
  19. I'm not real sure what to think going forward. his WAR is skewed a little by the defense which you probably can't expect to rate this high moving forward. If you think the shift is responsible for his low BABIP then this is probably best case scenario unless he can cut 6-7 percent off his k rate.
  20. So this guy sucks right? defense trending down offense trending down has a million babies what other things do you hate about addison russell
