  1. LA is going to take at least 2 out of 3, would be nice if we could do the same thing
  2. he's not an FA, but Jimmy Rollins is pissing people in Philly off. Maybe some kind of Pie+pitching centric deal?
  3. uhh pittsburgh defense
  4. k shayne graham
  5. Marmol wasn't a good starter at all because he doesn't have a good third pitch. That's why he was converted into a reliever. You can be a dominant reliever with two good pitches, as Marmol proves. marmol was a good starter in the minors that time has likely passed, obviously, but the reason marmol wasn't a success as a starter in the majors go way beyond the lack of a third pitch No, not really. He struggled as a starter as a rookie, that doesn't mean he would never have become a good starter. His change is passable, his control/pitch count would have needed work. You may be right (I'd call his change up as mediocre at best, and that's maybe a little generous), but the perception of not having three major league pitches in the front office most certainly was the deciding factor in him converting into a reliever when he went down after those initial struggles. Had he had a better change than what he does, I think his chances of sticking as a starter three years ago would have been considerably higher. His conversion into a reliever was because the Cubs needed an extra bullpen arm in the middle of the year last year, and Marmol was the best choice (at the time he was doing well as a starter at Iowa). So that's why he was the one called up, and he ended up being so dominant as a reliever that the Cubs decided to keep him there rather than risk switching him back. The perception of 2 pitches might have factored into them keeping him as a reliever (although I think his dominance was a much bigger factor), but his conversion into a reliever was strictly need based. Jehrico, I don't know why I'm even on this track Y'all ain't even on my level I'm going to let my little homies ride on you
  6. what a dick, makes me wish the braves had a double-a team in the texas league so i could go heckle him when he gets demoted again
  7. i cant remember his last name, but this bella guy has been my favorite thing from the olympics this year
  8. hahah i just now found out that otha ho was american, too
  9. maybe all the hairy, uni-browed girls on the soviet teams were Latvian try georgian. thank god they'll all be dead soon
  10. except that Ram would have scored anyway, so it made no difference. plus he wouldnt have pinched his sack
  11. this is going to be a wacky one
  12. If this score were to hold, we will have added 21 runs to our pythag in three days
  13. Yeah 9 out of 14 heading home isn't all that bad. Haha and look at the sked after the fla. series, three at home vs. cincy, three at home against the nats, three on the road at pitt we should take 6 or 7 of those too
  14. Lets put three or four more on the board and cruise. Would be 9 out of our last 11 heading into the florida series.
  15. Calm down, freaks, Lilly has been good this year.
  16. Well that sucks. Glavine's got about three innings in him today, max.
  17. high five let's stick about 5 runs up their ass here
  18. reed's hitting .350 vs. lefties this year
  19. Why Tree? Because we can't put a number on it? I just don't get the need to quantify every little detail in baseball and if it can't be explained, it's a waste of time or hogwash. I don't know what kind of an effect it has and I'm sure at times none but I just don't see why certain things like this are so dismissed by people who need numbers. Honestly, not that this is you, but many posters act just like the people in baseball they hate the most (Joe M) and deny everything "Old school" just as he does the number crunchers. This debate just reminds me of Conservatives and Liberals and I just don't understand why some can't see a possibility of a middle road or even the others side. i don't think you get it. everyone admits that edmonds might have some knowledge he can pass on, just that the chance that it actually makes any kind of meaningful difference is so slim that it's not worth talking about.
  20. of course jim edmonds could tell aramis a tip that could lead to a basehit or whatever but in that way he's no different than any other play on any roster in the majors. so what's the point?
