  1. hah, griffin is getting the jordan calls now, this could lead to good things
  2. griffin just drained a 15-foot, turnaround fadeaway off the glass
  3. USC is triple-teaming griffin every time he gets the ball.
  4. oh, i know. mayo had an nba game when he was in junior high. im just saying that at this point last year , despite all my high hopes going into the season, i was convinced that mayo was no more than a volume shooter, and i was totally wrong. derozan won't have a mayo-like season, but no one expected it from him in the first place. he has time to get used to college and put together a nice year.
  5. ok let us know when the white sox get a tradition, i will be sure to knock it
  6. So it's all just a big, flukey coincidence that he's pitched so above-averagishly on the road and awesomely at home. roy halladay's road ERA is 0.05 better than peavy's marcum, this stud who is comparable to zambrano, peavy and harden? 4.11 litsch? 4.00
  7. the "respond to imaginary things no one said" thread is that way *points* Feel free to throw in some joke ratings while you are there. you said that Halladay/Litsch or Marcum is a better duo than anything we could toss up even WITH peavy in the rotation. i love doc, but unless he pulls a pedro, i doubt that will come true. for all the wailing about harden's IP, he threw as many innings as marcum did, more or less, and he was much, much, much, much better
  8. Those are not total production stats, those are rate stats. If you can promise me that Harden pitches 150+ innings for the Cubs next season, then my opinion of the rotation increases a bit. Add in Marshall's or Shark's or Gaudin's or whoever's starts in his stead if he gets hurt then. Then we're changing the terms a little bit, which gets back to my original point: It's a good rotation, among the best in baseball, with a lot of depth but a lack of dominance. somehow neither zambrano, dempster, harden or peavy can match up to shaun marcum or jesse litsch?
  9. The argument appears to be "if we get the worst case scenario for all 5 starters, then the rotation won't be as good as many think". What you call "worst case scenario," I call "reasonable projection." did you run these numbers at http://www.erik316prospectus.com? gonna go ahead and toss up an 8.5 on this one

  11. That's all I'm saying. It's a good rotation that I'd be glad to have if I weren't so ambivalent about the darned team, but I think it's a little more complex than "2008 rotation + Jake Peavy = ZOMG AWESOME ROTATION!" 2008 rotation+no one = awesome rotation Unfortunately for Mr.s Harden and Dempster, the calendar won't be reading 2008. how much regression are we counting on here? i doubt dempster throws up a 4.50 (actually now that I typed that out I'm less confident) and harden is going to be dominant for as many starts as he can make.
  12. yikes, now that is good trivia.

  14. So far he's been a disappointment. Taj vs Blake will be fun. I've learned my lesson about writing off highly-touted USC freshman guards after Mayo last year.
  15. OU vs. USC tonight, I wish I was at this game. I want to see Derozan.
  16. you know i'm just giving meph a hard time because he spent all offseason telling us that greene was the answer at ss, everyone ate it up and he ops+'d 64. can you imagine what would have happened on this board last year if he would have had the same season and we had traded for him? his numbers probably would have been a little better, since his home games wouldn't have been in petco. of course his road slashes were worse than his home slashes, so maybe not. if the cardinals want to give greene a shot and hope that he's more than just average, they can go for it. i'd rather stick with theriot (and i think it's established how much i hate ryan theriot) and hope that we use that 6.5 million to go after a bigger fish, not a short stop that didn't outslug a guy who could only rack up 24 XBHs a year ago. also, take out his OPS in coors field and you already lose like 40 points off his career road OPS.
  17. i like to imagine that rickey henderson is the OP
  18. LOL What do you have to do to be considered a good shortstop? outslugging ryan theriot would be a nice start done every year except last year. what's next? You going to tell me that Lohse is better than Zambrano because of last years ERA and win totals? no, i mean a good shortstop should never slug below ryan theriot and a good pitcher should never have an era higher than kyle lohse. hsit happens. come on man, you know perfectly well that greene is much better than you're making him out to be right now. you're saying this stuff because he's going to the cards, plain and simple. but it's not like lohse had a 4.90 era and zambrano had a higher one. 3.78 to 3.91...and zambrano's era+ was higher, btw. Greene slugged .339. .339! Guys it was just petco! oh he was worse on the road. face it, he sucks and his bad bat is only compounded by the 6.5 mil he's going to make this year.

  21. Keep trying to console yourself. It's not going to change the fact that he's probably going to be the best shortstop in the division immediately, if not the entire league. now truffle's gonna get all jack wilson on us
  22. Be honest. Taking park factors, defense and careers into account, who would you rather have? ryan theriot for like 500k or khalil greene for $6.5mil? Uhhh, neither? i would be really upset if we were going into 2009 with khalil greene pegged as our starting short stop. im not enthused about having theriot there with no back up plan, but at least if it crashes and burns it doesn't cost us almost 7 million dollars. the way things are going with the market right now it seems as if we either spend those 7 mil or we dont. in other words sure it costs 7 mil, but it's just some fat cats money. if we didnt get greene, im not so sure we're spending those 7 mil elsewhere. i would love to blow our trade-deadline cash for someone that can't even outhit ryan "singles" theriot The only year Greene failed to outhit Theriot was last year. So Theriot is a better hitter? no, he's a pretty safe bet to hit worse than greene next year, but is he going to be $6 million worse? i'm going to go ahead and doubt that.
