    Guys the holdup is that the Cubs are trying to reverse their position in the negotiations. They knew the Yankees had all the power, so they took them right to the edge of a deal (it's called "edging" google it) and then said "actually if he won't sign an extension you can't have Torres." Now the Yankees are in a position of trying to please the Cubs because all the other suitors pulled out once the Cubs and the Yankees paired up

    This is what I would have believed last year. But I thought I finally grasped that it's all a crapshoot and it doesn't matter who you add. Like people here have said you could add Chapman, Miller and Jose Fernandez and still have an 80 percent chance of losing. Oh well. I'll admit I'm an idiot. I'll be happy landing Chapman and not worry about it. As someone else said, it might only move the needle by 2%. But the front office may feel that the future value Torres is worth less than that 2% for a variety of reasons. Or that, considering our relative strengths (eveything except RP) and weaknesses (our RP) securing the back end of games is worth more than 2%. Part of the reason the playoffs are a crapshoot is because one game can wildly swing an entire series, going from bad to great in the bullpen is worth a light hitting blocked teenager.

    using that logic, very good teams should practically never make trades at the deadline for players who will be free agents at the end of the season. Right. I think if a team thinks they are going to be in the playoffs and they believe the playoffs are a crapshoot no matter how many good players they add, that they won't trade their top prospects for any of them. case by case basis. this would help solve a glaring weakness, this isn't going from castro to russell and expecting it to win you a short series.

    There's no such thing as a final piece to a World Series puzzle. I see Torres as almost entirely as a trade chip. Never pictured him playing for us really. But given his standing, he should be able to get us more than a rental on a (an insanely good one) reliever. If Theo does this without an extension, does that mean he doesn't buy the theory that the playoffs are a total crapshoot or that he doesn't want to assume we are in the playoffs? What would be his motivation? what? he's probably assuming that arrieta and lester are hitting their decline phase so this may be our best shot at the next few years and that strong RP is our biggest weakness

    i seriously couldnt care less well we should be able to get more for torres than two months + playoffs of chapman. period. maybe so but a stud rp is what the cubs want and the seller is controlling these negotiations. id rather do this than watch him go to cleveland

    my issue with giving up torres (if it's only a rental) is not that we don't keep torres...it's that we don't get more than 2 months of chapman for him but if we extend him i'm good i seriously couldnt care less

    Lots of people are grossed out by the different type of spaghetti noodles. I like the thicker ones, but it seems like plenty of people don't like those because they are "more wet" than the thinner ones tend to be. Personally, I don't like the thinner ones because it seems like they tend to clump together. nice

    3.71 is not nearly 4. Umm what oh man his plan to pitch to more contact has resulted in him being less effective and it's gotten him a whole 1/3rd of an inning more per start. so not only is he worse he's also dumb.

    Pitched yesterday in AA, struck out 6 in 3 innings. I saw Brett also posted the club is stretching out Clayton Richard, because sure why not. hopefully they mean with an actual medieval torture rack

    I just wonder what the reason is. Is it an "I don't want to poison my body" type situation? Or maybe a history of alcoholism in his family that makes him overly cautious? I mean, I don't drink much...but it's mostly a taste aversion...and I certainly can't say I've never had a drink... I don't know how applicable it is to Bryant, but as someone who also has never drank, it's a combination of things. Upbringing(my parents didn't drink at all), picky tastes(I don't try a lot of new food/drink regardless), personal conservatism/willpower(I have a hard enough time not eating all the Oreos the same day I open the package, no need to risk that portion control with alcohol), and social circles(my friends either don't drink or do so rarely). its because his dad is a huge weirdo and probably stigmatized it like YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE KRIS, IM TRYING TO RETIRE ONE DAY DONT BLOW THIS FOR ME
