  1. A production meeting at 5am? He filled in on the Mully and Hanley show, which starts at 5am locally. Not a stretch that they would have to be there at 4 or so to do a pre-show meeting.
  2. Gotta say, I love Lester getting #34--hopefully it will help some of the false Kerry Wood hero worship from Cubs fans and hopefully ends any chance of it ever being retired for a guy whose on-field stats don't come close to earning that honor. Nothing against Woody, but those are just facts.
  3. he's got a little bit of a short fuse with the kid As long as there's no Adrian Peterson situation, we're in good shape.
  4. Had the 4th most points in a 12 team league, missed the 6 team playoffs and have now had the highest point total in each of the first 2 weeks of the playoffs. That's some serious BS.
  5. From Rovell, I know, but here's an estimate of the ABC deal: Darren Rovell ‏@darrenrovell 29s30 seconds ago Market value of Cubs 25 games/year deal with local ABC station WLS-TV is about $750K per game. 5-year deal likely worth $90M+
  6. Apparently the White Sox are looking at Ichiro. Which is perfect.
  7. http://i.imgur.com/d63siGg.gif Perfect reaction. Gomes is complete garbage. I have to think Theo/Jed are smarter than buying into some BS "leadership" stuff from a guy who sucks.
  8. Both Uptons for EJax and Baez. I'd have to say that I'm in if Maddon thinks he can get anything out of BJ. I have no idea about the batting order because I still don't see much OBP out of non-power guys on the Cubs, but here's a shot: Soler LF Valbuena 2B (later Russell?)--Castro vs. LHP Rizzo 1B J. Upton RF Bryant 3B Montero C--Welington vs. LHP Castro SS--Valbuena/Alcantara vs. LHP BJ Upton CF
  9. Jadaveon Clowney to have microfracture surgery and is out at least 9 months. That's awful. Great turf you have there, Houston. Good job, good effort.
  10. Almora, Baez, Alcantara, Edwards, Villanueva/Vogelbach, PJ, Tseng for Zimmerman and Harper. LOLOL. If that happens, I'll walk to DC and bring Harper back myself. If you want Harper, you have to give up Russell or Bryant. Russell, Almora, Baez, Edwards, Tseng for Zimmerman and Harper. And that's probably not enough from the Cubs.
  11. Only if they're not smart. Just by waiting a month, you gain an entire year of control. Even if Bryant is worth 2 more WAR (he won't be) than Valbuena, that's about 1/3 of 1 win. Just wait the month.
  12. In a world where there are less than 500 prospects rated as very good This. Come on guys, Mejia is a nice piece to have but it's not much to give up for a significant upgrade. This platoon is going to be very good. I feel much better about doing this trade than I would have been giving 4years+/$60M+ to Martin. Exactly. And Schwarber is racing towards the bigs. Its not unreasonable to think he will be at AAA by July and Wrigley by April 2016. Theo has gone on record saying catchers need longer to develop in the minors and even when they break into the majors they should break in gradually learning under a mentor. He spent most of his first season in the farm system playing OF and DH. I expect him to spend the entire 2015 season in AA working on his catching, even if his bat outclasses the level. That's perfect. Schwarber will be ready for MLB in 2018...right after Montero leaves as a FA. Welington is under contract until after 2018. So Montero/Castillo for the next 3 years, Schwarber/Castillo for 2018 and then Schwarber/random guy after that. :)
  13. that was so awesome. part of me almost wanted him to finish it. i can't believe he's still playing. I was 8 years old when he helped torch the Hawks in the Final. I can't believe that. Saw something on Twitter that Quenneville played in Jagr's first game. That's almost unfathomable!
  14. Agree with everything you posted. Not 100% sure on the Group of 5 thing, but I like it better than rewarding a 2-3 loss major conference team (hey Michigan State, beat OSU at home). If you are a Big 5 team with 1 loss or less, you deserve to go. There are very few years where there will be more than 7 of those teams.
  15. Dunn struck out 18% of the time in the minors. Uhh... so did everyone else except Bagwell that's being used in these comparisons. NAME: MLB K% (MiLB K%) Bagwell: 16.5% (9.7%) Glaus: 21.7% (20.3%) Sexon: 23.4% (18.7%) Burrell: 24% (19.9%) Dunn: 28.6% (18.2%) Dunn struck out less in the minors than the others not named Bagwell, but had the higher career K% in the majors. Given Bryant's K% is 26% right now, if anything Dunn is probably the more apt comparison if you're using K% and are assuming a player's K% will increase when facing MLB pitching as he's likely closest to a % Bryant will likely approach first. I never really said any of the comparisons are all that apt. I'm pretty concerned about Bryant's K rate. Is there any "era" adjustment needed to K rates based on the higher K rates across baseball the past few years? Doubt it would make a huge difference, but it seems to be more "accepted" and "normal" to K a lot now vs. the early/mid 90s when those guys were in the minors.
  16. No wonder why Kaplan is so pro-White Sox on Twitter this morning.
  17. Easily give him the 7th year. Prospects>>>>money.
  18. Here we go! Ok, I would officially be pissed off if we lost at this point. The only acceptable teams to lose to were: Boston (his history w/team, etc...) and anyone who completely overpaid (Dodgers or Yankees most likely). FINISH THIS, THEO!
  19. Yeah, it's a much bigger crime that there are 12-18 guys on this year's actual ballot that belong in than none of these "Hall of Good to Very Good" guys didn't get in. You can't tell the story of baseball without Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens--you can without all of those guys.
  20. Yeah, I'm already resigned to the awfulness. Hopefully it happens late tonight so I don't have to follow the carnage live on Twitter or NSBB.
  21. It's what they deserve for continuing to trot out Brian Hoyer at QB. He's been hot garbage for 2 months now. I don't know if Manziel will be any better, but he can't be a whole hell of a lot worse. Typical "veteran guy" BS that coaches continually think matters.
  22. I agree. He's going to SF. The Red Sox flew to see Lester last week and everyone dismisses it but the Giants meet with Lester's agent while they are both at the Winter Meetings and he's definitely going to SF? The Cubs and Dodgers could have met with him too yesterday, but went unreported. PTR flew to Atlanta to meet with Lester, but he could only afford a connecting flight and got there too late.
  23. PFT Commentator with a strong take. Not his best work, but still entertaining. http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/12/5/7339251/roasting-jay-cutler
  24. I like it better than it being further into right center. But, the original design was the best. The original one without the new RF board? Disagree. No, the first iteration of this one--the previous one to this that we all were told was approved until yesterday. There were some initial rumors yesterday that they were moving the video board closer to center (instead of closer to the foul line) and I didn't like that idea.
  25. Hahahahahaha. The B1G is such garbage.
