  2. Was the Broncos ST coordinator for the last 4 years. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamst Sigh. First place I went and looked too, but this was definitely the worst of the 4 seasons he was there. Not sure if that's helpful or not. Pretty bad with Carolina as well. Ugh.
  3. Went to my only game of the season last night. Despite scoring 3 goals, the offense was just a bit off after the first 3 or 4 minutes, which they dominated but didn't score. A ton of passes that were just a few inches off and some garbage PP time. Just odd. The Stars capitalized on nearly all of their really good chances and almost scored a 2nd shortie. Seeing Patrick Sharp fight someone pretty much summed up the entire game--weird.
  4. DePaul beats St. Johns, is 4-2 in the Big East. LOL.
  5. Impressive. If he gets remotely close to his potential, he will own this town (besides the media who will probably hate him because he's brown) and put on a Farnsworth like show with the ladies at the bars.
  6. If there's a winning team on the field, then bring on the douches. Better them than diehards watching a 70-win team. Completely agree. Doesn't mean it isn't at least a little bit of a buzzkill having these dipshits be the ones that the national media and opposing fans flock to when they talk about the Cubs.
  7. 2015: the return of the douche fans. You've been missed the past 4 or 5 years!
  8. I know a lot of people on this board probably go to the convention, but I honestly couldn't have any less interest in going. I would have to actually get paid to attend something like this. I'm willing to listen to arguments, but to be surrounded by thousands of people scrounging to get autographs or selfies with 20-something year old meathead athletes is not really something I find to be super attractive, especially when the actual informative stuff (stadium renovation news, etc...) is always on the news anyway.
  9. You also get to cheat on his wife?
  10. I don't think it would be that bad. He just lead the Bills to their best season in 15 years with Kyle Orton as the QB. I know they have a great defense, but he can't be THAT bad, can he?
  11. Kevin Brown was the weird one for me. He's Curt Schilling minus the bloody sock. Brown had a 5 year stretch (96-00) where he won 82 games with a 164 ERA+, 2.51 ERA, and 1.051 WHIP. Pretty sure that is better than any stretch Schilling had. Brown was [expletive] awesome; he was a beast for a good decade out of his career. Didn't realize it until it was pointed out here. He and Schilling have basically the same numbers. Smoltz, too, besides the saves part, which many think put him ahead of Schilling.
  12. But they beat Maryland at home. College basketball is so random.
  13. Ohio State 38, Oregon 35. Ugh...
  14. Sean Payton is an EIU alum....I'll trade a 1st for him :) You'd trade the 7th pick in the draft for a coach that just went 6-10 in one of the worst divisions in the history of football?
  15. Eh, he had a few good years. The comparison isn't really the problem, it's more that people think George was this horrible QB when he was mostly decent. I guess in that way he's very much like Cutler. Oh I agree, but Cutler's numbers are absolutely better than George's. George: 131 games, 57.9% completion percentage, 27,602 yards, 154 TD/113 INT for an 80.4 rating (and 41 fumbles) Cutler: 119 games, 61.7% completion percentage, 27,749 yards, 183 TD/130 INT for an 85.2 rating (and 45 fumbles) If you put Jeff George behind the lines that Jay Cutler has had to work behind, I'm sure those numbers change quite a bit. You do realize that Jeff George was on some completely awful teams, right? Edit: Sacked over 56 times twice in his career and a sack rate of 8.3% : http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GeorJe00.htm Jay sacked 52 times once in his career and a career sack rate of 6.2%. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CutlJa00.htm

They're very similar and similar compared to their peers. Nothing wrong with having an average QB who can make some unbelievable throws.
  17. Eh, he had a few good years. The comparison isn't really the problem, it's more that people think George was this horrible QB when he was mostly decent. I guess in that way he's very much like Cutler. Jeff George had a career 80.4 QB rating (i know, not a great measure, but the one with the most history--QBR only goes back to 2006), here's how that compares to some of his peers from his "era": Steve Young: 96.8!!!!!!!!!! Dan Marino: 86.4 Brett Favre: 86.0 Rich Gannon: 84.7 Jim Kelly: 84.4 Mark Brunell: 84.0 Brad Johnson: 82.5 Neil O'Donnell: 81.8 Troy Aikman: 81.6 Randall Cunningham: 81.5 Boomer Esiason: 81.1 Warren Moon: 80.9 Jeff George: 80.4 John Elway: 79.9 Mark Rypien: 78.9 Jim Everett: 78.6 Phil Simms: 78.5 Jeff Blake: 78.0 Jim Harbaugh: 77.6 Drew Bledsoe: 77.1 Vinny Testaverde: 75.0 Conclusions: Jeff George wasn't nearly as horrible as he's made out to be, goes to show that being a dick is much worse than being an average QB. Steve Young was unbelievable, Rich Gannon and Mark Brunell are underrated, Elway is highly overrated, Moon, Esiason, Cunningham, Simms, and especially Troy Aikman are overrated. For reference, Cutler's QB rating is 85.2 and that's tied for 13th among active QBs (tied with Cam Newton and Andy Dalton) (minimum 1500 pass attempts)--basically in George territory, and ahead of Flacco, Stafford, and Eli. Also, Aaron Rodgers is unbelievable. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_career.htm
  18. Yeah, the Blackhawks played the part of Varlamov's wife last night. Freaking scumbag. Too soon? But they were the ones taking all the shots. Touche'

  20. That's the argument for trading Cutler now and moving on, I think. If you view the new coach as the next long term direction, and Cutler has his own shelf life, why not start over entirely ASAP? The answer to your question is because quarterbacks don't grow on trees. You could trade him tomorrow and never come close to competent QB play for 10 years, enough to cycle through 2-3 more administrations. Cutler gives you the best chance to be competitive next year and going forward until you find (probably draft and develop) his replacement. I agree with this. 2016 could be the year to grab a first or second rd QB. If all goes well you transition in 17/18. I don't see 2015 as the year we grab our next QB. Yep, everyone is so ready to get rid of Cutler. Have they watched the past 50 years of Bears QBs and seen about 10-15 other teams' QB situations? The roster isn't in a place to rebuild right now ($22MM guaranteed to Cutler, $12MM guaranteed to Allen, brand new extension to Marshall, last years of decent Forte) and with any competent coaching system, it has 7 to 11 win talent. Look, Cutler is never going to be the NFL MVP and the Bears probably won't win a SB with him, but unless you're ready to roll the dice on drafting a QB at #7 AND eat $22MM or figure out a trade of Cutler (and in turn, cut or trade Marshall most likely unless you want to deal with that situation), you try to make this work for the next year or two. If it works and you make the playoffs, you continue to build through the draft and FA. If not, you completely blow it up after 2016 and hope the next 2 years worth of drafts (15 and 16) were good enough to be the basis for a complete rebuild.
  21. What is wrong with Mike Shanahan? People say he did nothing without Elway, but most of his time in Denver was without Elway. The Broncos were barely average in the years before he got there. He won 11 games with Brian Griese and 10+ three years in a row with Jake Plummer (including one 13 win season). He got a pro bowl season out of Cutler and Washington's only playoff appearance in a decade. He's not going to be your coach for the next 10 years, but I think you can do a lot worse than him. And we're basically looking for an unknown guy to match what he has done. He's not awful, but not great either. I would be fine with the hire. He's a professional guy who won't have most of the locker room shenanigans that Trestman allowed. At the worst, he's your coach the next 2 years and if he can't get anything done with Cutler, they are both gone and you start over without both of them. For reference, Shanahan without Elway is 123-121 and 1-5 in the playoffs. Lovie Smith as a Bear was 81-63 and 3-3 in the playoffs. Still can't believe the McCaskeys let Emery fire him (even though I can't say it wasn't the right time to move on).
  22. I think they will almost certainly get Marc Gasol. They will probably sign Jimmy Butler to a max offer too, but the Bulls will match. Not sure what else is out there, unless you believe LeBron will opt out and go to a team that currently has the worst record in the NBA because Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony are there. Edit: looking at the FA class there are some good targets, Aldridge, Gasol and Rondo are the "max range" unrestricted FAs available. LeBron, Love and Wade have player options, while Leonard and Butler are restricted. If you go beyond that level you get guys like Al Jefferson, Dragic, DeAndre Jordan, Milsap that might work as secondard pieces, but not really the level of players that the Knicks want to be clearing cap space for. All of the guys with player options will opt out as the cap is going to rise significantly due to the TV deal. Could you imagine if LeBron, Love, and Wade went to the Knicks? LBJ would be murdered the first time back to Cleveland if he leaves them a 2nd time, particularly after all of the "coming home" nonsense from this past offseason.
  23. It's ridiculous and shows that they have talent, but bad game coaching
  24. I don't see why. He was a 3rd round QB who turned into the most prolific passer in the league then he fell apart in his early 30s. I think Kubiak got the most out of him. It didn't last long, but Schaub isn't Peyton Manning. I'm not sure why the coach would be blamed for a QB going from very good to Johnny TAINTville in one season. Yeah, Schaub was smoke and mirrors for a while. Andre Johnson was really good during Schaub's peak, like top WR in the league good. And that scheme was excellent. Yeah, it's basically Shanahan's excellent scheme without all of the douchebaggery that Shanahan brings. I wouldn't hate Kubiak, but I'm still hoping for Rex Ryan and a damn good OC.
  25. I guess there's a bit to like, I'm just not as enamored with any coach who's been gone from coaching so long (with Gruden, Cowher, etc). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Has a coach ever spent say 5 years away and then returned to win consistently? Not that it couldn't happen but I get a visual of Joe Gibbs. And it makes me think I'd rather try something other than dusting someone off the shelf. I guess Pete Carroll. Still doesn't change my mind. And he stayed in coaching. Wasn't Dick Vermeil gone for a while and then come back successfully with the Rams. Is 15 years a long time? I think somebody like Billick, who follows the game closely as an announcer would have a chance to come back strong. He's watching film and talking with current coaches all the time. But was he ever that good to begin with? Didn't he have an offensive guru tag and not actually guru anything at all? I'm still going back to Kubiak. He's been in the NFL for a long time. He's been on multiple staffs, had his one chance at head coach and despite a good deal of success, left on a sour note. Second chance head coach with offensive strengths and plenty of relationships should be able to create a very strong NFL caliber staff with no Canadian coaches and limited college coaches. Billick said on Boers & Bernstein that he doesn't have any interest in coming back and coaching. Doesn't want the time commitment anymore. I'm sure a giant bag of money would help change his mind, but I don't think he's that great of a coach anyway. Ravens won because of outstanding drafting, especially on defense. He was a great OC with Randy Moss, Cris Carter, and Randall Cunningham, pretty sure most people would have gotten the job done with that core. Kubiak is interesting, I guess, but Schaub completely falling apart has to be partly on him, no?
