  2. Would Izturis (last year of contract), Cedeno (or Theriot), Jacque (to get rid of some salary), Guzman, and get it done for Tejada?   Soriano Tejada Lee Ramirez Floyd/Pie Barrett Murton DeRosa
  3. Why would you want video evidence of being guilty?
  4. Everyone pretty much hit it. I work in Tampa a lot. I'm going down March 20-22 and going to the Yanks game on the 20th. If anyone is down there that week, let me know. We can go to a game and then go out afterwards. Channelside is kinda cool if you are into the suburban mall feel (although it has an awesome view of the water) or Ybor City (homeless man's Bourbon Street) where I'm staying. Tampa rules...except the urban sprawl that's going on.
  5. Note: Lilly sounded like one the most boring people on the planet. Whether he was tired or just didn't want to be there, it was a brutal interview. Hopefully he wins 20 games and doesn't do any more interviews. Yikes.
  6. Seriously, give it up Hendry. 200K is less than the beer revenue for 1 game. Freaking don't piss off Z. Aaarrrrgggggghhhh.
  7. GREAT interview with Theriot. He is the "everyman". Interviews like any of us would, says the right thing without sugarcoating it, seems like a normal guy. Good for him and that interview makes me want to root for him even more. 3 cheers for Theriot. Hip, hip, hooray...
  8. Is it possible that Kerry's "fuller" frame the past few years had anything to do with his injuries? I would think not since they seem to be structural shoulder issues and not leg problems, but you never know. Medical professionals have any insight?
  9. Mariano has socks, sandals, jeans and a tucked in T shirt. I guess he didn't get the memo that 1996 was over. I wonder if he's listening to Live's Throwing Copper on his walkman in the clubhouse...
  10. Maybe now he can pay for some couples therapy...although I'd probably deal with a few severe beatings for half of $26 million
  11. Also, the neighborhood made them get rid of starts after 3:00 PM in order to get more night games, so the Cubs decided to give it to them in the rear by moving the starts from 3:05 to 2:55. Good for the Cubs, I live in the neigborhood and some of the people who whine are real D-bags. Viva los osos!
  12. Unfortunately, even if the Hawk is elected this year, he will go in as an Expo. He will be remembered as a Cub because of 1987 and the playoff run in 89, as well as all of the media exposure, but most of his best seasons were as an Expo. All but 2 of his Gold Gloves were in Montreal and all of his highest SB totals were there as well. It is a very similar situation as Bruce Sutter last year. Either way, I think he belongs. And, no, number 8 should NOT be retired. 6 years on the North Side isn't enough.
  13. At least Pie won't be counted on as much as Patterson. Looks like if he plays, he will bat 7th or 8th and just be out there for his defense--what we should have done with CPatt. Pie will be the Cubs version of 2005 Kyle Orton--just do what we need you to do (defense, steal a few bags) and don't completely kill us (bat .198 and K 70% of the time). I would still rather have Jones in CF though. Here's your lineup if Hendry has anything to do with it: Soriano RF DeRosa 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Barrett C Murton LF Pie CF Izturis SS instead of what it should be as of now?? Soriano RF Murton LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Jones CF Barrett C DeRosa 2B Izturis SS Sign me up for the latter please
  14. This guy is going to be the white Jacque Jones. Everyone is going to hate him. He better take advantage of the cold weather and start 4-0 or the natives will be restless at Clark & Addison. Good luck Ted...
  15. Good, he was only above average for like 2 years, but everyone loved him because he used to play football at Nebraska. Somehow it was always avoided that he was the FREAKING PUNTER and wasn't a real player. He was scrappy and hustled though, maybe him and Pierre should start a club or something.
  16. Does anyone here still have a left-over man crush on Darin Erstad? He could play CF and be insurance for 1B if Lee were to get injured on another freak play. I seem to recall reading this board in the past and there were some serious chubbies for this guy.
  17. The fact that Jacque wants out after 1 season really makes Cub fans look like crap. Pierre didn't seem all that keen on the Cubs organization or fans either. I know it has been a while since we won anything, but I think some people really took it to the extreme with Jacque. The racist mail and booing like 2 games into the season was really classless. The guy had a hell of a lot better year than Burnitz did in 2005, yet took twice the abuse. He's a $5 million/year player and he produced like one. Not once did I ever think the guy was dogging it either. Just because he didn't put up a 2001 Sosa year doesn't mean the fans had to treat him that way. Sorry about the rant, but I really hated the Jones signing from the beginning, but was satisfied with his production and think he got a raw deal from the fans...
  18. How are the Cubs going to get AROD when we don't have any starting pitching for our own rotation, let alone anyone to trade? Somehow I don't think Steinbrenner has been dreaming of a rotation featuring Angel Guzman or Carlos Marmol or an outfield with the overrated one, Felix Pie. Crede, Garcia, and Buehrle for AROD, cash, pitching prospect seems like a very good offer for the Yanks. Crede and Buehrle are going to leave the Sox after 2007 anyway and Garcia is not that much better than average. Here's your Sox lineup:  Pods LF Iguchi 2B AROD SS Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1B Pierzynscum C Fields 3B Anderson CF That is a lot of power in 1 lineup and they would still probably have money to go out and sign a starter to replace Buehrle/Garcia. Although pitching was allegedly their "problem" last year, so why wouldn't they just trade Crede for a good pitcher? and if they really want Garcia or Buehrle out, they could probably get some very solid prospects.
  19. If the Cubs wouldn't have let go of Lofton after 2003, they would have made the playoffs again in 2004. They relied on Patterson because he had 3 good months. It's the one time they went with a young guy and it bit them in the rear end. They had no leadoff hitter in front of Nomar, Alou, Sosa, Lee, and Ramirez. It probably cost them 20 runs and 4 games that year. If they would have made the playoffs, it was a guaranteed WS appearance unless Hawkins blew more games. Not that I'm bitter...
  20. I almost just vomited at my desk even thinking about that series. It should have been a freaking sweep. That team was playing so well, it was the best 2 or 3 weeks of my life. I had just turned 21, still in college, lived 5 blocks from the stadium. Then that night happened...and I didn't get a job...then my parents got divorced. Freaking Cubs starting a chain of disaster. Anywho, here is my top 5 1. Gonzalez 2. Baker 3. Alou 4. Prior 5. Everyone else in uniform 6. Bartman. That poor guy better be throwing out the first pitch for game 2 of the World Series this year when the Cubs are taking on the Yankees. (Game 1 will be Ron Santo--if this season doesn't do him in first) And, yes, I am predicting the NL will win the All Star Game this year, so Wrigley can host games 1 and 2 of the series...
  21. :D :D Here's to Mark Prior. With all of the crap he's gotten in Chicago (mostly deserved, but some over the top from fans and media), he is still trying to help out the team. I thought he was just counting the days until he leaves here, but maybe he will want to stick around for the long haul. One more great season from him and the team can do wonders for wanting to play in this city and he knows it from 2003 and he's trying to get Schmidt to come along. Or...being Schmidt's neighbor, he knows his arm is trash and is trying to screw the organization by saddling them with a long term contract. I think its the former, so here's to you Mark Prior, Mr. I don't care if the fans think I'm a wimp, I'll still help the team and really will make the Hall of Fame Pitcher Guy (Mr. I don't care if the fans think I'm a wimp, I'll still help the team and really will make the Hall of Fame Pitcher Guy) Bud Light Salutes You...sultan of the strikeout, destroyer of the DL, colossal holder of the calves, and flamethrower of the fastball. This Buds for you
  22. Rumblings over the past 50 years have suggested that Boston isn't exactly a great place for minorities to live. Not that the people are necessarily racist, but that there isn't as large of a contingent of Hispanic or African American people there as in many other large metro cities like NY, Chicago, or LA and that means less things that might interest people or those origins. Or...Manny could just be a weird guy and wants a change of pace once in a while. I don't exactly know how "Manny being Manny" would work with Sweet Lou in the dugout. Not that Manny has done anything remotely criminally wrong, but I've said it a thousand times, if the Cubs want to put an outfield of Hitler, Hussein, and OJ out there, that's fine by me as long as they win the WS. Point being, as long as they produce, I could care less what they are doing the other 21 hours of the day when they aren't winning ballgames.
  23. If Rich Hill receives any Cy Young votes, the Cubs will be in the playoffs. It's not going to happen. He might do something like the following, and I will be totally OK with it. 14-10 4.10 ERA 210 Innings 190Ks That will satisfy me, but not give me a RichHillIsABeast man-love chubby.
  24. I would actually prefer to bat Pie 7th if it somehow came to this. You need someone who can take a walk batting 8th. A lot of times, pitchers try to "nibble" and get the 8th place hitter out on bad pitches. Not really a great spot to put a free swinging rookie. I would still prefer keeping Jacque in there. I really don't know why everyone is in such a hurry to get rid of him. Throw him in there after Ramirez and before Barrett and your offense is better than if Pie is playing, IMO. Soriano Lugo Lee Ramirez Barrett DeRosa Pie Murton
  25. The only way this is bad is if his contract prevents us from signing other players. I have been "overpaying" for tickets and beer for the past 20 years, and those prices sure as heck aren't going down. So they gave a few extra years. If Fonzie is part of a WS team 1 out of 8 years, they can give him triple this amount, who cares? If not, then signing him for free would have been a bad deal. Now, onto JD Drew and 2 pitchers. Can we get all 3 of them in for the $37 million or so we have left to spend?
