  1. huh? I'm saying, I'll take 85% every time. Marmol has been awesome, but I still want Dempter closing. When he's celebrating winning the WS, I'll be happy, but dbags like you will be questioning why 85% Dempster will be out there. Huh? Dbag, why waste a post. What's with the name calling? What's with him "huh" ing a pretty clear post? Go Cubs, go Dempster. Go Marmol closing in 09 and getting an unfortunate HUGE raise.

  3. So if Dempster goes 2/3, he's 85%? That's not too freaking bad. I'll take 6/7 out of my closer any day of the week. Although God Marmol has been awesome in the 7th inning, I still want Dempster closing. When Dempster is jumping into Kendall (should be Soto)'s arms after game 6 of the WS, I"ll take it.
  4. Here's your lineup Theriot (2b) Lee (1B) Arod (SS) Ramirez (3b) Soriano (RF) DeRosa/Jones (LF) Pie (CF) Soto © Zambrano (P)
  5. WHY EFFING SWING CHRIST HILL NEEDS TO PITCH A CG TOMORROW, WIN OR LOSE. THIS FREAKING SUCKS.
  6. Theriot is one Carlos Lee diving catch away from everyone slobbing on his knob. Rest, really? These guys are professional athletes.
  7. That worked well against LA last week. I'm sorry, there's a better chance of 1 out of 2 guys getting a base hit than 1 out of 3 guys getting an extra base hit, especially when those guys are mostly people that shouldn't have anything to do with a division winning team.
  8. Thats umm a lil harsh dont you think? I agree with Keener. Id be perfectly happy with paralysis. You still have to pay a contract with paralysis, I think. I'd settle for Kansas City claiming him on irrevocable waivers, though. He can live, we can get our payroll flexibility back, everyone is happy.
  9. I hope Soriano dies sometime in the next few years...the last 5 years of that contract are going to be a Vin Baker-like albatross...
  10. Per ESPN 1000: Cubs host Brewers Cubs visit Cardinals No word on Brewers vs. Cardinals, but I would be rooting for a stadium implosion.
  11. I don't really agree with this, the Cubs defense is far superior, I don't think the pitching is really better. Sheets >= Zambrano (unless Z turns things around in a hurry at least) Gallardo = Hill Villaneuva very well could = Lilly Bush >= Marquis Suppan >= Trachsel The Cubs ERA will be better because of fielding but I don't think the actual pitching is much better. Cordero, Turnbow, Shouse, Linebrink match up decently with the top end of the Cubs bullpen too. A lot of that Brewer ERA was built by Capuano and Vargas who have been upgraded at this point. Lilly >>>Villanueva Marquis>>>Bush Suppan=Marshall/Trachsel
  12. A poor man's Jack Morris? I can't agree with that at all. I'd take a healthy Schilling over Morris any day. Schilling: 126 ERA+ 1.14 WHIP 8.6 K/9 4.4 K/BB .673 Opp OPS Morris: 105 ERA+ 1.30 WHIP 5.8 K/9 1.8 K/BB .693 Opp OPS It's one thing to say that Schilling is overrated at this stage of his career, which is probably true. However, when you look at his career as a whole, he's been a damn good pitcher, moreso than Morris. Great points. I probably should have said similar to Jack Morris. Most people, however, are considering Schilling a lock for the HOF while Morris hasn't sniffed induction.
  13. Curt Schilling is pretty overrated. If he didn't force all of his opinions on everyone, he'd be a poor man's Jack Morris. Juan Pierre Soriano Jim Edmond's defense Kerry Wood
  14. Underrated: Jack Morris--if he was on the Yankees and did what he did in the postseason, he would have his mustach bronzed by now Bert Blyleven: Winning 288 games doesn't happen by accident (even though I hate using wins as a measure for pitchers) Vince Coleman: Changed gameplans for every team in the NL for a decade Kenny Lofton: If he was on 1 team his whole career, he would be getting the Biggio treatment Albert Belle: If he wasn't a complete jerk off the field, he would make the HOF. One of the most feared hitters of a hitters era. Great RBI man. Tim Wakefield: Being on a good team helps, but he has had a pretty productive career
  15. Wood--Yes, unless he drops his guilt over stealing money for 3 years and signs with someone else in a multi-year contract for a lot of money. Kendall-No, unfortunately. If Hendry hadn't pointlessly signed Blanco to a 2 year contract last winter, we could keep Kendall and have him and Soto take care of C. Eyre-Like its been mentioned, he'll be back. Not that bad, IMO. I can see him bouncing back with a quality year. Ward--Yes, please. Floyd--Over our collective dead bodies. Here's your OF next year, hopefully: Murton/Jones--LF Pie--CF Soriano--RF Backups: Ward, Pagan or EPatt Honestly, we'll probably have the same exact team next year as we do this year minus Floyd and Kendall. Rotation: Same except maybe Prior getting a chance Bullpen: Pretty much the same. The middle relief guys will probably fluctuate all year between guys from the organization Infield: will be exactly the same as well. Catcher: It's either gonna be Blanco/Soto or Kendall/Blanco
  16. Good point. However, if you look purely at the talent on the 2004 team, how did they not even make the playoffs. Easily the most talented Cubs team EVER, especially in the expansion era. Granted, they were somewhat flawed, but if Joe Borowski stays healthy, they probably make the playoffs and have a great chance to win the WS. Dusty definitely was the weak link in the organization that year. The only real questionable offseason decision was not bringing Lofton back, but even then, Patterson was unbelievable in 03 before he got hurt. Also, you could say they should have signed Tejada, but then they wouldn't have traded for Nomar, so for that season it wasn't really terrible (long term was a different story, obviously). Here's your 25-man roster: Alou, Patterson (shoulda been Lofton), Sosa in the OF Ramirez, Nomar, Walker/Grudz, Lee in the IF Barrett had a great year at C Prior, Wood, Maddux, Clement, Zambrano   Borowski, Hawkins, Remlinger, Mercker, Farnsworth, Rusch, Dempster, Wellemeyer (replaces Borowski) Bench (somewhat weak): Bako, Walker/Grudz, Ramon Martinez, Neifi, Hollandsworth
  17. It's about effin time. I think that's his first "real" homerun in like 3 months. Everything else has been a first row job. Keep it rollin, Derrek.
  18. He already beat us singlehandedly once this year (ruining Zs gem) I project at least 2 more game winning HRs in the 4 game series in STL.
  19. I have a bad feeling that Buck Coats will "Victor Diaz" us the final weekend in Cincinnati. I'm going to go throw up now.
  20. Lilly tells Zambrano he's the Ace Cubs 4-2
  21. Defend the contract...someone...please
  22. You're right. People booed because they all hate Bob Uecker and think he's the devil. It had nothing to do with the fans wanting to uphold a tradition and think it's wrong for a competing team's broadcaster to sing the stretch. it's only a "tradition" because the Cubs marketing department fooled most cubs fans into thinking it is. it's usually just a stop on "celebrity X's" press junket or politician's campaign trail. it doesn't honor Harry at all anymore (if it every did post-1998) I agree, the "celebrity" thing is lame. Play a tape of Harry and be done with it.
  23. You're right. People booed because they all hate Bob Uecker and think he's the devil. It had nothing to do with the fans wanting to uphold a tradition and think it's wrong for a competing team's broadcaster to sing the stretch.
  24. I was there last night and I booed. Not so much Uecker's fault as the Cub organization. I realize that he's done it before, but there has never been a pennant race between the Cubs and the Brewers. If they wanted him to do it, have him do it in April when the games don't necessarily mean as much. To expect Cubs fans to be all happy that another team's broadcaster is singing the stretch is a thing of the past. Now, we expect a winning ballclub and all of the cutesy, whatever happens happens garbage is hopefully working its way out of Cubs fandom. Going to the games just to drink and sing the stretch is hopefully on its way out. This is a sign that the expectations might finally be changing within the fans minds. Just play a tape of Harry singing and let all of the d-bags like Jeremy Piven, Jeff Gordon, and Ozzy Osbourne go make fools out of themselves at Hi-Tops instead of ruining a nice break in the game. For the record, I personally love Bob Uecker and find him entertaining on the few opportunities I have to hear him broadcast. Major League was great and he was a big part of it, Mr. Belvedere, however,...not so much.
