  1. Easily the most frustrating player in the history of the Cubs to watch. Not the best, not the worst (obviously), but easily the most frustrating.
  2. I believe Brand missed most (all?) of last season with surgery and can opt out of his contract either this offseason or next. I don't think they've been entirely happy with Maggette the last few years. I wouldn't think they are actively shopping them, but there is a lot of uncertainty with Brand and Al Thornton had a solid rookie season at the forward position, so they might want to move Brand before he opts out of his contract.
  3. Could the Bulls get Elton Brand and Corey Magette from the Clippers for Kirk Hinrich, Larry Hughes, and Tyrus Thomas? Here's the Bulls lineup: PG: Derrick Rose SG: Corey Maggette SF: Luol Deng (resigned) PF: Elton Brand C: Joakim Noah Bench: Ben Gordon, random backup PG, Thabo Sefolosha, Andres Nocioni, Aaron Gray, Cedric Simmons, random backup PF/C, random backup SG/SF, Jameson Curry (inactive), Demetius Nichols (inactive)
  4. It was the least the Cubs could do after Dusty Baker sawed his arm off at the elbow. This was one of those "Jim Hendry does right by the player" type moves. Now, let's hope the goodwill is over. He got in a few games, got a nice applause, got a TV story. Now, we should probably pick, you know, the best players to fill out the roster.
  5. I'm thinking Hill + Pie + Cedeno + Marmol. Seriously. He's making no money and they just gave up Edinson Volquez for him and he's pretty much putting up MVP numbers.
  6. You mean like how it says in the first sentence of the thread?
  7. Last I checked the Rule V draft was a transaction. EDIT: So was the $50K being traded to the Cubs for giving Cincy the right to pick first.
  8. I was intrigued by this question in the Cubs discussions forum, so thought I'd turn it into an actual poll question.
  9. What do you think we would have to give up to get him? Would Sean Marshall and Donnie Veal get it done? Or would they want Rich Hill or Sean Gallagher?
  10. I know the Cubs didn't know who they were picking in the Rule V for Cincinnati, but my god did Cincy fleece us. There couldn't be a more perfect fit for the Cubs right now...although he would have had 2 bad weeks last year and been sent to AAA. However, imagine this    : Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Hamilton Soto DeRosa Theriot
  11. Any chance Lilly punches Lou in the face in the dugout?
  12. OMG LIlly Sox. Take him out. OMG. Then complain when Marmol pitches 3 days in a row. chill, people
  13. I agree. If Lee hits a bomb after the next 2 guys get on, it will be over...
  14. Ted Lilly's constant serial killer look has taken about 14 months to officially make me scared of him. Thanks Ted. Now get this guy out.
  15. Geo hit a long drive to left center that bounced high off the wall. The yellow homer line runs vertically on that portion of the wall. It looked like Geo's shot hit just to the right of the line and should have been called a regular homerun. The umpires said it hit the line and was in play. The ball took a crazy bounce off the wall and went back over the CF's head and way out into the center field grass. Geo scored on an inside the park homer. And then he had sex with everyone's mom in the dugout. True Story.
  16. he should get 1 grit point for that. Black guys can't get grit points, duh...
  17. Dear Derrek, Thanks for playing the field well, but please start hitting better than Ted Lilly and Ryan Dempster. Thanks. Cubs Fans.
  18. Yes, there is. He's probably at least as good as Lieber, Rich Hill has back spasms, and Marshall isn't stretched out yet. Marquis in rotation + Lieber in bullpen > Lieber in rotation and Marquis in Bullpen. When Hill and/or Marshall are ready to go, then I agree, DFA Marquis.
  19. No, they're called insurance salesmen...or gas station attendants. :D
  20. That is, quite possibly, the dumbest thing I have ever read on this message board. You do realize that Braun had pretty much the best rookie season in the history of baseball, correct? And that if you look at his minor league numbers/hype that it isn't a fluke? Also, did CP even have a good August? Wasn't his "tear" the first half of 2003 before he blew out his knee in Atlanta?
  21. +1 Just because his numbers will be there doesn't mean I don't hate watching the guy play.
  22. I agree, sometimes it seems like he's running him into the ground and then I'll look up and see he hasn't pitched for 2 or 3 days. Either way, I'm gonna go ahead and just believe that Marmol has an indestructible arm like K-Rod or something.
  23. Can people stop saying this is a low risk move? If he comes in and stinks up the joint, and causes the Cubs to lose games, that sounds pretty high risk if you ask me. Divisions can be decided by 1 or 2 games over the course of 162. Every game is precious. Honestly, he's not going to suck any more than Felix Pie would or Reed Johnson vs. righthanders would, so I would think that qualifies as "low risk". Jim Edmonds will have very little to do with the Cubs winning or losing games unless Lou foolishly bats him in the first 5 slots in the order. The problem is, you could get very similar production from Pie while developing him and giving him big league at bats. If the Cubs are getting bad at bats, they might as well come from someone who isn't 38 years old and on the downside of their career.
