  5. I have a legitimate question.... Why is it that this guy has not been banned from baseball yet? Is his cocaine addiction not as bad as gambling? I know he will probably not become a hall of famer but how many strikes will they allow guys like this. These drug addictions should be taken just as seriously as gambling/steroids if you ask me.
  6. I hope Nathan is right about Hagerty, he is immensely talented and a bounce back season would be huge for him.
  7. This will be the norm with all minor league clubs in the future. MiLB has a plan in place to have all minor league teams on their network within 3 years. It is my firm opinion that this takes away from the originality of minor league baseball, but thats just me.
  8. My thoughts exactly Nathan...
  9. Sorry guys I was away for a little bit... About Dahm and the Hawkeyes Baseball Program: As I mentioned before the program lags behind big time in facilities (which I could be wrong, but what has he done to change this? See Creighton), but what I dont like about Dahm is his recruiting philosophy and the idea that he should be signing as many local (and I dont mean just Iowa) guys as he does. Just because you are a northern school does not mean that you shouldn't recruit on a larger scale. And to say that you are in the top tier of the Big 10 is not impressive. Dahm may have improved them to be in the top tier, but Iowa had nowhere to go but up. The only major competition in recruiting that Iowa has in the state is UNI. Yet he still loses the big time Iowa recruits to Nebraska (Dan Jennings, Jeff Lanning, John Lee, and to a lesser extent Tony Watson) and other programs in the region. He has not been able to change the attitude of the promising young Iowa kids, THE KIDS DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IOWA CAN GET THEM TO THE NEXT LEVEL. I have met Jack once when he was at Creighton and he is a very nice man that seems like he would be fun to be around, but I just dont think that he can get the job done at Iowa the way he is running the program.
  10. Dahm and the Hawkeyes have a long ways to go before they have any dreams of Omaha. This includes facilities, recruiting philosophy, and coaching. Count me as unimpressed with Dahm.
  11. That is some funny stuff... Also I like that they call Halladay, Doc.
  12. I think Dope and Moore are going to be a nice combination at West Tenn this year...Both have looked very strong this spring.
  13. One of my favorite minor leaguers...I hope he does well this year...
  14. ERA is actually up to 3.68... For the Spring Season he closes out at 14.2 IP (not 15 as the mlb.com and WGN stats suggest), 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 8 BB, 11K, 3HR Allowed, 1.23 WHIP, 3.68 ERA. Not bad for a guy with very limited experience. MLB.com and WGN stats based that off Marshall having 10.1 IP going into this start - why the discrepancy with your stats over the .1 IP? I am not sure where they got that extra .1 IP, they were off on a lot of the hitters throughout the spring season as well but have caught up lately.
  16. Those are very very good guesses...
  17. Honestly, I don't see what is wrong with starting a AA pitcher in the 5th hole spot if he is ready....contending team or not. Players make the jump from AA to the majors all the time. And it's the 5th spot in the rotation, not necessarily a high pressure spot on the roster. I guess I am just saying I see the crux of your post to be a non-issue. Did you find anything wrong with the A's using Joe Blanton as their #5 last year to start the season? If anything, I took Hendry's comment about Duke to be a good sign that at least a couple of the Cubs' pitching prospects are going to get some good time this year on the big club. The only hesitation I have about it is that Marshall is not terribly experienced.
  18. I find it interesting that the majority of you think that spring stats and performances dont matter, but you are ready to give Marshall that 5th Spot in the rotation. If we are throwing out spring stats, we probably shouldn't have Marshall in the conversation...No one entering this spring season would have guessed that Marshall would make a serious run at #5. He is probably not ready since he hasn't thrown a whole lot throughout his career, but he has performed admirably this spring, which has propelled him into a possible #5 starter. Spring stats do count for something.
  19. Holdzkom when he was healthy was throwing in the high 90s regularly, as he regains strength from TJS he may very well end up being quite a steal...age is his obstacle.
  20. The kid is from Omaha, NE and pitches for Creighton...Pat Venditte
  21. Out of players? Sounds like an excuse to me. He could have gone another inning or two. He didn't use all of his pitchers, and they have the DH, so they aren't burning bench players when they change pitchers. BOOOOOO!!!! HISSSSSS!!! I wonder if Bobby Jenks was there....you'll notice he went to Neil Cotts to close...Jenks is not too popular in Guillens house this spring.
  22. I would be willing to bet at this point that it is Andrew Miller from UNC.
  23. I am eager to see if Scott Moore can improve on last year. I am really hoping to see a big year out of him in West Tenn.
  24. Jeff Culpepper 24th Rd Pick 2004. Probably start season at West Tenn... Gonzaga U.
  25. I agree, gives me visions of Lincoln, NE @ Memorial Stadium!!!! um...not where I was headed. :D :D I don't get it. :| I dont get what you are trying to get, just a couple smileys is all.
