  1. And was very much appreciated.
  2. Well, it is obviously better than less mentum. Wait for it.... (Especially you, Abuck).
  3. "Do you guys drill each other using your canned answers, or is it more of an individual memorization technique?"
  4. I think it takes 5 to reach the groupthink threshold, UK. We're just at 4.
  5. I would rather keep Reed and trade Pierre as well. He's going to be one of the better leadoff hitters for the next 10 years. Make it three.
  6. I'd rather have Vigo Mortinson's horse than Richard Hidalgo. I think UK's championing of Eli is the better choice. At the same time, I continue to be appaulled at the types of names that this resource rich organization is relegated to due to poor planning and direction.
  7. I disagree. While Hundley's contract may have provided little return in retrospect, it was a decent contract when signed. I still believe that Hundley's struggles with the Cubs resulted from Don Baylor's mishandling combined with Hundley's immaturity.
  8. Perhaps the answer is for Hendry to start acquiring more complete players instead of two guys taking up two roster spots. I fail to see the scenerio where Baker routinely sits his "speedy" starting RFer who is signed to a multi-million, 3 year contract. I think this move further demonstrates the unlikelihood that CPatt or Walker will be on the 2006 roster, since it assumes Hairston will be primarily an IFer and CPatt would fall to the 6th OFer with the previous addition of Mabry. I'll reiterate what I've said before: this signing jeopardizes Murton's playing time far more than Jones's.
  9. This thread is overdue. Sammy made a lot of otherwise unbearable years bearable with respect to Cub baseball. When Bruce Kimm wasn't improperly taking him out late in close games, that is.
  10. Um I think Juan Le Pierre is more in jeopardy than Murton. Jeopardy of what? Losing his job? He's been the centerpiece of their offsesaon. He's their ideal candidate for the much coveted speedy leadoff man. Dusty is on record stating that he will play the guy with the bigger contract because that is why the guy got the contract. Couple that with his history of favoring older players, and all the positive things he has to say about older players, and that Murton was one of the few guys who Dusty openly criticized by name in the press, and it's pretty safe to assume that Murton will be the odd man out of the current OF. Playing time. Gotta love the obsessing over Hendry gutting the team by dealing Prior & the speculation over Grissom in LF. Can't wait to see what's next. Can't you maintain a freaking discussion without using crap like "paranoia" and "obsessing"? What is this compulsion to constantly backhandedly run down other posters and their opinions? Jesus Christ its annoying. You make some interesting arguments, but I never take them seriously because you seem more interested in engaging people like me or Goony and simply being contrary than really staying on the merits of the discussion.
  11. Jacque Le Jones was not given a three year deal to sit on the bench. Murton's playing time would be in far more jeopardy if Grissom was signed rather than JJ. Uhg. I hate that I just wrote that sentence and it pertains to the Cubs' 2006 outfield. What in the hell is going on with this club?!
  12. Does Jim Hendry like ugly shirts?
  13. I wouldn't be surprised by it. Dusty rably loves the idea of a fast old guy. (I use "rably" in place of "probably" to denote the lack of interest in OBP by management.) If the signing occurs, my New Years Resolution will be to find a new team to follow.
  14. Also, let's not forget what happened to ARod shortly after he "cleared the air" with Ranger management about wanting traded. There was a big news conference with ARod, Showalter and Hicks in tuxedos, making nice and naming ARod captain. Next thing you know, ARod is in pinstripes, slapping at balls and seeing a shrink.
  15. Bingo. Its akin to Hendry's comments that he expected Sosa tp be the Cub's RF in 2005. The problem I fear is that Hendry is out of Angelos' league when it comes to these talks. I think it is safe to assume that MacPhail is largely hands off while it is likely that Angelos would be front and center with such a high profile matter. If so, I have little confidence that Hendry will keep his Tommy Bahama.
  16. I'm not saying that it necessarily precludes such a signing, but the 40 man roster must be considered. The Cubs haven't been the best at 40 man maneuvering for some time now. Having a guy like Miller as "insurance" for 2007 creates problems with roster positions and Rule V losses. Its sad that this organization that was purportedly pitching rich just a short time ago now finds itself in this position.
  17. In a related story, Matt Karcher recently signed a new three year contract with Sprint for wireless service using some of the money he stole from the Cubs.
  18. Don't the trade requests/demands of players like Manny, ARod and Miggy run contrary to the notion that players only want money?
  19. This is definitely not a good day to be surfing NSBB on my Treo.
  20. Hendry has no, nor ever has had, any magic, IMO.
  21. Am I mistaken or didn't they ask for Guzman first from that Boise team? And I know a couple people who predicted Willis' success before he was traded. oh if only MacPhail/Hendry caved on Guzman. but then again, they are supposed to be clairvoyant. Why go here. Nobody has said any such thing. While there is no requirement to be an oracle while holding a MLB organizational position, it is incumbent, particularly from the GM, that a pattern doesn't develop wherein talent is continually forfeit without proper return. That is all anyone is saying.
  22. You know the Marlins' scouting department!?
  23. For that alone Hendry, Baker, and Rothschild should be fired. you know, i wouldn't go so far as to say they should all be fired, but that was really inexcusable. of course, you'll hear nothing about it from them...they'll act like the whole thing never happened and that they never planned on wood being ready by april. A $12M/year pitcher? No, those are grounds for firing.
