  1. MacPhail may look dumb now, but he might look like a genius in 2-3 years. I agree that it wasn't worth it to try to get both Bedard and Roberts because of the cost in young players. As for the Oriole fans, 2008 will be a long season, but by 2009 or 2010 they could be serious contenders. But if you're an O's fan it would have been a long season with Bedard too. At least the O's aren't acting like the White Sox and trying to sell their fans on winning right now. As a fan, if my team can't compete I'd rather suffer through a couple years of watching young talent develop as apposed to a higher priced club that has minimal chance of winning and minimal chance of improving.
  2. Few points: 1) Greene overrated? By who? I don't even see him rated/talked about that much. 2) What makes you think he'd hit top of order? 3) We went down in 3 straight, not 4. Yeah Greene would probably hit 7th or 8th for the Cubs depending on if you want him to hit infront or behind Pie. If the Cubs aquired Greene and Pie has a half decent season the depth of the lineup would be unreal. If the cubs acquire Greene and not Roberts, Greene hits 5th or 6th in our lineup (where he hit last year), not 7th or 8th. Soriano Fukudome Lee ARam Greene Soto Pie DeRosa Thats how I'd do it. Not at all sure I'd hit Derosa 8th in that lineup. 6th perhaps, but not 8th. Agreed. Pie would probably be stuck at 8.
  3. There goes the Theriot for Pujols trade idea................... ](*,)
  4. So that's what he's been doing when not with Van Halen. OK, My question is if La Russa really did learn a lesson and feels remorse then why is he hiding behind his attorney? Let him be a man and come out and make that statement himself. Face the media and act like he has a set. Maybe he doesn't have a pair? :-k
  5. 7 million option, but only a $750,000 buyout? That seems low for the buyout. I don't foresee them picking it up, though.
  6. I thought Juan was gone forever? He can't be serious!
  7. I could see the Brewers being very tough this year as well. NL Central is a 2 horse race at this point. No one else has the pitching to compete.
  8. I guess White should have acted faster. He got the go ahead......... get it done already!
  9. Maybe they'll finally vote for the Cubs.
  10. One can only hope it doesn't hamstring the Yankees financially in the future. =D> =D> =D> =D> Love that!
  11. Who knows if 13-15 is going to be insane then or not. It could end up being a very good deal for the Yankees. Like another poster said in one of the other extension threads......... these kinds of deals are almost always great for the teams. Very low risk in the scheme of things. Just don't let him room w/ Pavano!
  12. Note: I'm not saying that I wouldn't give up that much for Greene. I just think it's more then SD would ask for, or receive. Outside of this board is Greene highly sought after by other teams? I haven't heard anything. Is thought of as one of the top SS in the league? I don't normally hear his name outside of this board. More realistic to me: Cubs send Murton and Colvin for Greene. If there's another player involved it would be a PTBNL (low minors). And even that could be a great deal for SD.
  13. It would be trading from areas of depth to fill a tremendous hole. Murton will be a little used 4th outfielder, Cedeno would no longer be needed with Greene, Patterson is lost on the depth chart with Pie and Colvin, and Marshall would likely be battling Lieber, Gallagher and others for the last rotation spot. Khalil Greene on the road in 2007: .288 .322 .519 .840 Khalil Greene on the road career: .280 .335 .515 .850 Remembering that Greene plays most of his games in the toughest hitter's park in baseball and the toughest hitting division in MLB and that the NL Central is arguably the best hitter's division in baseball, the numbers Green could put up playing for the Cubs in a very solid line up all the way through could REALLY pump his numbers up. If you add Greene's bat (ignore the great defense he plays for a moment) to the Cubs line up, the Cubs have Soriano, Lee, Ramirez and Greene with the potential to have .500+ SLG and Fukudome, Pie, DeRosa and Soto all with the potential of mid to high .400 SLG. Soriano, DeRosa, Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, Greene, Pie, Soto And wow, what a stellar defense the SP's would have behind them. It's a lot to give up for Greene, but none of those guys are someone who turns me off such a deal. Please bronze this post and then hang it high surrounded by naked neon ladies. I don't deny that Greene would be an upgrade at SS. In fact, I'd like to see him with the Cubs. Just because these players don't project in the Cubs future in the immediate doesn't mean that you include them all in one deal. I don't mind parting with a couple of these guys. It just seems to me that 4 for Greene is excessive.
  14. Maybe I'm misguided, but isn't Greene being a bit overvalued in this thread and Murton undervalued? 4 players (including Murton) for Greene seems a bit much.
  15. Thank your lucky stars it was Raw and not Modzilla. I didn't even see what they wrote, but you know it's bad when Raw snaps on you!
  16. Bad boys, Bad boys whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when Raw comes for you?
  17. That would take care of all his arbi years + 1, I think.
  18. I know this one. He lost both games as well.
  19. Wonderful, wonderful read! I can't believe Farnsworth hadn't discovered beer and that other thing until he got to the majors!
  20. Both guys have been guessed now:
