  1. You know that these things have to be said. I didn't expect it to get any worse then it was.

  3. Agreed. However, there are many teams out there that would find value in having Marquis in the rotation, depending on the cost. Marquis wants to start and that's really all that was said. I don't think it hurts his trade value. Either a team has a need for a starter or they don't. I agree that stuff like this gets overblown in terms of lowering trade value. It might mean more teams will be calling on Marquis, but like Bruce said, Marquis' arm is going to affect his trade value much more than his mouth. There definitely is a market for innings eaters. Unfortunately, Kyle Lohse is still out there on the market and will probably sign for roughly the same $ as Marquis is owned, is better, and won't cost anything players in return. We lose much more leverage in the fact that there is a viable alternative for teams out there than Marquis acting like a baby. That theory may be correct if the team just needs an arm and nothing more. The perfect fit would be a team that has a contract comparable to Marquis that limits them from signing someone like Lohse. If a team is in a position where they cannot extend their budget, but need to add a pitcher that would be the ideal situation. I don't know who that team is, but if the Cubs are intent on trading Marquis I hope they find that team.
  4. Did I not win anything because I wasn't a premium member? Just double checking!
  5. I have more then 10 minutes now! If you want a team (there are 3 available) just PM me the e-mail you would like to use for the team and I'll get you set-up. Draft is tomorrow at noon.
  6. League has about 10 minutes to fill the remaining for spots or our draft gets pushed back. Let me know if you're interested!
  7. I don't understand the concept of paying mediocre pitchers 10-11 million per year either, but that's what the market has been demanding the last couple of years. Because of that, if the Cubs want to trade Marquis I think they could actually do fairly well. They're going to have to take back a contract, but I'm certain they can find a taker for an arm. No question in my mind about that.
  8. Main Entry: en·abler Pronunciation: i-'nA-b(&-)l&r Function: noun : one that enables another to achieve an end; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by helping that individual avoid the consequences of such behavior
  9. Seriously, what the hell? That guy needs to be institutionalized +1 on that. There's overvaluing players and then there's plain craziness. I think that post is as delusional as they come. Baltimore didn't get that much talent for Tejada or Bedard. Why would he think the O's would get that for Roberts?
  10. Am I the only one that thinks Gallagher, Cedeno, plus 2 others is too much for Roberts? :banghead:
  11. Just hang up the phone when they ask for that much, Jim!
  12. I'm disappointed I haven't seen a photo shopped Bonds in a Rays jersey!
  13. Anything that can ensure that I can take my yet-unborn children to their first Cubs game at Wrigley Field like my dad did for me I'm in favor of. So, he took your mom to the game? I'm confused?!?!
  14. He's spent almost 600 million during his time in charge. The Cubs still have the longest professional sports streak with no championship. "We could be a lot worse off"? Is Hendry to blame for all 100 years? The amount of time since the last WS championship has little to do w/ Hendry's performance as GM. The only years that effect his grade as a GM are the ones when he actually held the job!
  15. Get drunk and urinate on the bat in front of Yankee Stadium. It's a tradition of Yankee fans! Seriously!
  16. Assuming he signed with the Rays, hits at least one more HR (to break/extend his own record) and then gets his 3,000th hit.......................... HE'S GOTTA GO INTO THE HALL AS A RAY!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  17. I'm a bit surprised that he didn't receive a MLB deal.
  18. Good to see he's okay.
  19. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be an advantage for my Illini.
  20. It would fit in nicely w/ IU's tendency to hire dirt bags.
  21. Even with consistent playing time, he might still struggle for awhile. But, you just have to stick it out because the reward could pay huge dividends later. To borrow another poster's example from earlier in the offseason, Boston put Pedroia at 2b last year and he did this in March and April: .182 .308 .236 Pedroia did this in May: .415 .472 .600 Should Boston have sent Pedroia back down to AAA at the first sign of a struggle? Nope. Just let him get his licks in and sooner or later the truth will be unveiled. No two prospects are alike. Alex Gordon struggled his way through his entire rookie campaign. But, he will eventually show people why he was so highly touted at one point or another. Look what BJ Upton did in his first two stints in the majors in '04 and '06. He was downright horrible. In 2007, he started showing folks what he is capable of. I think the Albert Pujol's and the Miguel Cabrera's cloud a lot of people's judgment of what to expect from a young up and comer. If they just stick Pie out there and let him play, I think he'll prove his value sooner rather than later, and with solid bats like Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, DeRosa and more than likely Fukudome as well, I think the Cubs can afford to be a bit patient with Pie. I agree again. And I view Pie as more "coachable" then CPat was. While CPat has a tremendous amount of potential he seems to have always thought he was a power hitter and didn't utilize his true tools. Pie on the other hand seems to be very coachable. There was many times last year that I thought he was too selective at the plate when the Cubs where trying to work with him on his plate discipline. He just needs time to get comfortable. If he knows the position is his and he doesn't have to worry about losing playing time I think he'll be more relaxed, won't press and he'll enjoy success.
  22. Fuld was 25 years old in AA last year. Fuld did this in AA: .290 .372 .388 760 Pie was 20 in AA. Pie did this in AA: .304 .349 .554 903 Career minor league numbers for Fuld: .296 .377 .417 794 Career minor league numbers for Pie: .300 .358 .468 826 Pie did better in AA at 5 years younger. I agree. It's not that I'm writing Fuld off, but I'm certainly more confident in Pie's ability to be an impact player then I am Fuld's. Folks have been down on Pie because of his limited numbers last year. With the addition of Fukudome in RF, there's really no reason not to let Pie play everyday in CF. He will hit in the MLB just like he has his whole professional career. It may take some time for him to adjust, but I believe he will find success with consistent playing time.
  23. Yeah, but did he finalize a FA signing while in the ambulance/hospital?
