  1. I wouldn't have a problem with Sosa as a bench player with the Cubs. Trade Marquis and Dempster to Toronto for A.J. Burnett and RESIGN the real #21 in Chicago! :pig:
  2. Sosa would hit alot of HR in that ballpark vs NL Central pitching, I would think. I doubt anyone signs Sosa at his asking price, though.
  3. What? Manny doesn't get in? I agree with quite a few things you break down, Meph, but this is not one. Manny will get to 500 HR this year and has 2200+ hits. Career .313 average, 154 OPS+ and he doesn't seem to be close to retirement. And he's won WS titles in Boston.......... he'll get in.
  4. If Zook manages to pull Harper to Illinois I'd be blown away. He visited Illinois early before any other school, but he's also visited Miami and Florida State. His scouting report: He runs a 4.35 40! I'd call that blazing speed. I can't wait until Wednesday to see what he decides. He'd get every opportunity to play right away at Illinois. That's got to be a big plus to Zook's pitch. While I would love to see Harper at FSU, IMO he's headed to Clemson. Or at least that's what I've heard from my sources at FSU. I know Clemson is a big player too. Honestly, I think he'll go to Illinois or Clemson. I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else. I'm crossing my fingers for Illinois. That would cap another great year recruiting for Zook.

  6. Sosa? Other then his last year I never had a problem with him. He was a GREAT Cub and I have many fond memories of him. Baker............ he's not even a player. If the Cubs had performed vs Marlins in 2003 and actually won........ I wouldn't have cared a bit about Baker. While I don't like Bonds I would hope for him to do well IF he played with the Cubs. It'll never happened anyway. It's too risky PR by the Cubs.
  7. What exactly is his "price tag?" And how do you rule out an acquisition without knowing what it would involve to get them?
  8. I don't think Hendry is looking for a SS unfortunately. There have been rumblings of an additional SP which would be nice. He apparently called on Santana which is a bit surprising to me. Maybe the A.J. Burnett rumors have some legs. While he's an injury risk I certainly would like him more then Bedard if only because of what the Cubs may have to give up in order to get Bedard. I also agree that Nathan isn't really a necessity, but I bring it up because it's said that the Cubs where interested in Nathan. If this is true, I would think they would try to move Dempster and one of the primary rumors that Dempster has been involved in was to Toronto for Burnett. It will certainly be interesting to see if the Cubs make a move for either.
  9. There's been speculation that the Twins will be trading Nathan after finalizing a trade for Santana. Considering what they where willing to take for Santana would you be interested in Nathan? The Score 670AM is already speculating that the Cubs have interest and that it would be a "perfect fit" for both Nathan and the Cubs, but I don't really trust the Score to be accurate! LOL! I have mixed feelings about signing a closer as I'd like to see Woody grow into that role, but on the same hand if the Cubs traded for Nathan to close the Cubs would have Howry in the 7th/8th, Marmol and Wood 7th/8th, etc. The bullpen would be nasty and shorten games quite a bit.
  10. Our line-up would be amazing with Bonds in it. No doubt. How much can he play now though? He played 126 games last year and he'll be in 43 in May. If he'd sign a one year deal on the cheap he'd definately be of interest. The Cubs would have to move Soriano to CF and it wouldn't really allow you to trade Pie because it's not a long term commitment to Bonds. It could be interesting.
  11. Josh Fogg would help all those young pitchers come along. He's a poor man's Greg Maddux.
  12. Is the 7M in the eighth year for a total of $133M? Even so, Santana's asking for 150 over 6 years. That's 20M more then Zito with less years. Again, I don't think it will be 150M, but I could see 120. If he goes 7 years I could see 150, but not at 6 years.
  13. Would I have to like him as a person? #-o
  14. Sounds like the trade is no sure thing in light of the cash he wants. If I were the Mets I'd give it to him. New ballpark opens in 09' (or is 2010?) and attendance (not always great at Shea) and revenue will go up accordingly; good young nucleus in Wright and Reyes means that you are never too many moves away from contention. I think it will probably get done. They have until 4PM CST tomorrow to come to an agreement. I fully expect they will, but I don't think it will be 150 million over 6 years. It will probably be closer to 120. Santana will lower as the hours tick away.
  15. The Score is reporting that Santana wants 6 years 150 million from the Mets in order to waive his no-trade. That's some serious dough! 6 years 120, I'd do if the finances where available, but 150 million seems a tall order. Maybe he doesn't like the Mets either! LOL! BTW, The Cubs will no longer be the favorite in Vegas if this trade goes through. Mets are 2/1 favorites to win the NL if Santana is acquired.
  16. I doubt the Angels would have signed Santana to what he wanted. They are pretty hesitant in giving out huge deals like that. Maybe true, but that team would be crazy good with Santana as well.
  17. Why not just run a background check? Why do they need to go out and talk to these guys neighbors? Seems a bit excessive to me.
  18. Well, if you like watching Fukudome taking a walk then that's the video for you.
  19. I don't know............. there's always the Knicks!
  20. I can't believe the Angels didn't get involved. They could have easily beaten this offer from the Mets. Maybe it is true that the Twins didn't want him in the AL.
  21. I don't think you need to give up Hill unless you really undervalue Marshall/Gallagher. If the Cubs have to give up Pie, Marshall, and Gallagher + other prospects for Bedard and Roberts that's one thing, but if Hill's included as well............. I'll pass and I think Hendry would as well. It just doesn't make sense on the Cubs side to add Bedard, but lose Hill. I don't see this team as being any better with Bedard minus Hill and Pie.
  22. This is a GREAT, GREAT deal for the Mets. If Pedro is healthy this year come playoff time they could be one heck of team to have to beat. I hope this forces the hand of Hendry to strengthen the Cubs. He may not feel the need to match the Yanks/Red Sox/Angels etc. of the AL, but when a team like the Mets makes a move like this it makes you look twice at your current team structure. If the Cubs where to meet the Mets in the playoffs do they match-up pitching wise? I don't know. If Hendry was compelled to make an AJ Burnett trade in order to compete with the Mets it wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least.
  23. I believe the word you are looking for is naivete, and I am not even sure I spelled it correctly. naivety?
