Between Willis, Harang, Harang, Gorzelanny, the pitching roation could not have come out worse. On the other hand, we might not face too many no-name lefties. Well, you do know Willis has been awful this year right? But since he's a lefty I don't know if we'll benefit from that or not. I bet Florida wishes they would have cashed out on him a couple years ago. We've always done well against Willis. Who would you rahter face Willis or their number 4 or 5 starter? I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or anything. Its just that when most people hear "Willis" they still think Cy Young caliber pitcher. He's nothing to dread this year.

I would argue that winning is what sparks a team, and the more productive a player is, the more likely his team is to win. Therefore, I would choose a productive player over an arse-busting player. I think Ramirez's walk-off against the Brewers sparked the team as much as anything this year, and he's not an arse-buster.

Exactly. And what seems to be missing from a lot of the Eckstein comparisons is that he is making about $4mil more than Theriot. Theriot's numbers are definitely worth the league minimum. I'm glad we have Theriot, but I wouldn't be if he was making half of what Eckstein gets.

Are you kidding? Indy has some of the worst fans in the country. Before Peyton, they begged for fans to go to Colts games. The pacers don't draw. There is no way they could support a MLB team with cincy so close. Las Vegas is the most logical place for a baseball team. They'd sell 2.5 million tickets annually, no doubt. I don't support the notion that Indianapolis has terrible fans (I can name a lot of places that are worse) but I do agree that Indianapolis could not support a MLB team. There aren't enough baseball fans, and the ones that are here are committed to the Cubs, Reds, and Cardinals. Not enough would switch to make it worth it. I wouldn't switch but I would definitely hit every Cubs series. I go to Indians games now and enjoy seeing former and future MLBer's. I would definitely frequent an MLB team to watch other quality MLBer's pass through town. It really may not work in Indy but I think it's definitely more feasible now than ever before. Same here. I already go to Cincy about once a year, I would definitely make the 40 minute drive to Indy anytime the Cubs were here. And the Indians games I've been to seem to draw pretty well, I think an MLB team would have shot. I don't think Cincy being so close would affect it much because there honestly aren't that many Reds fans here. Far more Cubs/Cards. In response to Irishoshea: Have you seen the Pacers lately? That team is absolute garbage. I wouldn't go to their games if they paid me unless they were playing someone I wanted to see. I don't have any kind of argument, I don't have any numbers saying Indy has good fans, I just wanted to bad-mouth the Pacers.

Off topic, but I just looked at Vaughn's stats and realized he was a lot better than I thought. Seems to lack the longevity to make the HOF, but the dude had near-Arod numbers for 8 straight years.

They are all just part of the hilarious picture that is Ron Santo. Equally as funny most of the time is Pat's ability to block out Ronnies convulsions. Ron reminds me of Will Ferrell as Ron Burgandy. I could see Ferrell playing Ronnie. No way. Burgundy was dense, but he was mostly poised and coherent. He was prepared for his job. Santo is much more like Brick Tamland, a blithering idiot who makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but he still manages to come across as somewhat lovable. Plus, I could definitely see him yelling "Loud Noises!!!!!!!" and killing a guy with a trident. Or, he's a combination of Brick and Champ: I'm Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. My thinking was that Ramirez and Lee are probably more versatile defenders and could handle other positions better. But I think Ramirez at 3B, Braun in LF, Lee in RF, and Fielder at 1B is the best option (as if these are actual options)

It's just amazing how bad these teams are. Cubs with this pitching staff should be running away with this division. It feels like 2004. MLB should come to the decision that the Cubs and Brewers can combine their teams for the playoffs. They take the Cubs pitching and the Brewers offense. That might give them a chance to not get swept in the 1st round. Who would you start if we could combine the teams? I think I'd get creative and go with: Lee - LF Hart - CF Fielder - 1B Braun - 3B Ramirez - 2B Soriano - RF Derosa - SS Soto - C (best catcher between the teams isn't even a starter) Screw defense. Then... Sheets Lilly Zambrano Hill Gallardo Cordero Marmol Howry Shouse Wuertz Linebrink Dempster I think that'd be a pretty dang good team, lets submit a request to MLB.
