  1. Yeah, Byrnes, Young and Reynolds (and Jackson to a lesser extent) have been adamant about defending themselves against Pythag. It's kind of funny how big a deal something like that has become in the mainstream media. I think the only 2 other teams to make the playoffs with a minus in RS/RA were the 84 Royals and Padres a couple of years ago. Those teams won 84 and 83 games respectively. This years Diamondbacks are kind of a oddity. A first in baseball history if you must. Winning 90 and making the playoffs with a losing Pythag. I think that is why the mainstream media is picking up on it. I will say that if "knowing how to win" was such a valuable skill, how come more teams havent done it in history. Also if "knowing how to win" was such a skill how come the 84 Royals and 05 Padres got eliminated from the playoffs rather quickly. I'm surprised more teams don't devote more time to learning how to win. It must be funny in the Diamondback's dugout snickering at the other teams who are trying to not score more runs.
  2. the correct response would have been "yes, but there is just one thing that would take my mind off of it for a little while" CHICKA-BOW-BOW Haha, the sound effects turned that from  to
  3. DeRosa should hit #2. With Soto in the lineup, no reason NOT to hit Theriot 8th. I can understand some with Kendall in the lineup, but he shouldn't be in the lineup, so that's another issue. Unless Soto starts to struggle, I don't want to see Kendall in the lineup at all. With all the off days, its not like we'd need it.
  4. That's a solid lineup. I think I'd rather have Sori, DeRo, Lee, Floyd, Ramirez, Soto, Jones, Theriot, but I won't complain if that is the lineup. I didn't like Floyd before Ramirez at first, but it's seemed to work whenever they do it.
  5. Yeah, 1990s Maddux, and not a very poor-man's version. Webb is not that close to Maddux in his prime, but then again what non-power pitcher in recent times was? http://www.fangraphs.com/comparison.aspx?playerid=104&playerid2=1692&playerid3=&position=P&page=6&type=full Yeah, Maddux in his prime was as good as it gets. Webb is just good.
  6. Last night my girlfriend asked me if I was going crazy with anticipation and I said "a little bit". But now that the day is actually here, that answer is "a lot bit". LETS GO CUBS!!!!
  7. It doesnt seem like Fred's on his A-game tonight.
  8. In response to some other people, A. This game was real B. I didn't make the box score nor do I know what's wrong with it. C. I never claimed to have proof so Snood's decision to bet money off of this was his own fault. Sorry I couldn't get a video but the fact of the matter is that in this little town virtually nothing gets recorded. D. In response to the question about our offense, yes it usually is rather terrible against formidable opponents. E. A while back someone asked what happened this week: Homecoming 42-7 win against a 0-3 now 0-4 team  Why are you laughing? He's awesome. Kenny is my 2nd cousin's best friend's cousin. They're tight. Kenny is LEGIT. Yea him and that sub 40% completion rate  82 QB rating is nothing to sneeze at. And fair weather fans like you make me sick. They give you the best night of your life one week and then you're nowhere to be found when they need you the most...HOMECOMING! Weikel is a true hero to even still be playing for "fans" like you.
  9. Kick them out. There's 3 of them and they're bigger than me....But I told them when the playoffs start I'm not missing a game. If they want to watch something I will fight them to the death. They may be bigger but I'll have a lot more to fight for. What'd they say?? They aren't going to soap drop with me.

  11. I want to watch This Old Cub tonight, but my stupid roommates are watching Blades of Glory.
  12. Except for his start on 3 days rest, he's been very good the past several starts, and his 3 days rest game wasn't that bad. I like our chances of seeing "good Zambrano" tomorrow.
  13. Yeah, well if the Diamondbacks would have lost all the games they won, they would have been 0-162. It would have been the worst season in sports history. EDIT: I think a better stat would be: If you took out all the Diamondbacks wins, they would have been 0-72...which is pitiful.
  14. Is MLB TV not having the free archives for playoff games or am I just not doing it right? In other words, how do you get to archive of the game?
  15. I think Marquis and Pie are in for sure. I still think Hart has the edge over Marshall (and Ohman). I hope Lou does the right thing and take Ronny. He's been out-hitting Fontenot (and Theriot, heh) in September and he gives the Cubs an actual backup SS. But Lou seems to have Fontenot much higher on the PH depth chart than I would, so I don't know. I figure Pie should be in. I keep hoping Marquis is left off in favor of an additional lefty (Marshall/Ohman), and Lou seems to have taken a liking to Hart. If I had to guess the last 5 at this point, I'd probably go Marquis, Hart, Fontenot, Cedeno, Pie. If I got to pick the last 5, I'd go Marshall, Hart, Pie, Cedeno, Fontenot. I have a feeling Monroe will make it over Cedeno.
  16. Having a terrible offense and a decent pitching staff and ending up with 90 wins? So explain how the Cubs are soooo superior to us. You guys only scored like 40 more runs than us, not whole lot. We have the 7th best SP ERA. .5 behind CHC .6 from being the 2nd best in MLB. Do you realize that that's quite a bit? Not really when you're 90-72 compared to 85-77 in the best division in all of MLB Hmmm....I'm trying to figure out if what you said is at all related.....I'm thinking not.

  18. I checked the numbers and he has...even yesterday when he didn't play. That Soriano never ceases to amaze.
  19. So, let me see if I understand this. If the Mets pull off a huge comeback and the Phillies and Rockies win and SD loses, then there's a 4-team playoff. And if either the Mets or Phillies got the WC, then the Cubs would play the division winner? I would think that would be the best possible scenario because of the extra games they'd have to play.
  20. If Arizona and SD tie, they will have won both the division and the WC. Since they would both be in the playoffs, the tiebreaker becomes head to head record which Arizona owns. Thanks. With all these numbers flying around something wasn't connecting in my brain.
  21. How has AZ already clinched the division if they're only a game ahead of SD?
  22. I'm not intimidated by Arizona's pitching outside of Webb. Davis and Owings are both about Marquis-level. And the way Zambrano's been going I'd like our chances with a Webb/Zambrano matchup.
