  1. Bonds is just about the only player I couldn't root for even if he was a Cub....I just couldn't do it, no matter how much he helped us. I'd sooner cheer for Jim Edmonds.
  2. Huh? Abreu is a guy who will probably score 100 runs, hit 20 HR, drive in 100, walk 100 times, and steal 30 bases. I wouldn't be upset with Murton starting in RF every day, but to expect him to compete with those numbers isn't very realistic. I do agree with you on the argument that it might not be worth it, as Abreu is going to demand anywhere from $10-15 million - money that can be spent elsewhere. The Cubs are RH heavy in the lineup, though. Need some LH power, and another solid starter would be good. The only things he did last year that are on your list are score over 100 and knock in over 100 and he was on the Yankees which helped. I definitely think Murton will be able to compete with the numbers Abreu puts up for the remainder of his career. He'll probably never be as good as Abreu was during his prime, but Abreu is past his prime.
  3. Would the upgrade from Murton to Abreu be worth the price? Abreu will be turning 34 and had an OPS of .814 this year, while Murton just turned 26 and had an OPS of .791. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Murton out performed Abreu next season.
  4. huh? the teams they have beaten, in their non-patriots games, are 5-0, 3-2, 1-3, 3-2, 1-4. that's 10-11 Taking away 7 of their losses and still having a record of 10-11 is not good. Besides SD and Dallas the teams they have played absolutely suck. And I really dislike the Patriots and I don't have to be completely rational about it if I don't want to.
  5. I hate that NE padded the lead at the end of the game last week and made it look like a blowout. They've had an absolute joke of a schedule so far and I'm sick of hearing how they're the best team ever because they're steamrolling these crap teams. In other words, I just completely hate the Patriots.
  6. I agree with this. Juan Pierre definitely doesn't get his GRIT by seeing a lot of pitches. Go up there hackin, dude. I think swing % would definitely be good. Also, there are GRITy players of different races, but being white definitely helps. Maybe work in a skin color metric. The lighter the skin, the higher the number and then multiply that number by something. I also think the BA w/ RISP should include with 2 outs. Any Manny Ramirez oaf can knock runners in with 0 or 1 out, but the GRITiest come through with 2 outs. Just some thoughts.
  7. Didn't he suggest an Aramis for Izturis trade a few years ago? If I remember that correctly, I'd rather have Ned Yost as manager than Stone as GM.
  8. You could say, "Oh, I didn't know you automatically got into the playoffs if you won the WS the year before. Whats that? You don't? So the Cubs had a better season? How about that." Just a thought.
  9. I've always wondered what I would do if I went to a baseball game between two teams that I didn't care about. In this case, I would probably go and just pretend that it's the world series. I happened to be in St. Louis the 2nd day of the season in 04 and went to a Cards/Brewers game. Me and my friends just tried to egg on the drunk people and our section got pretty crazy towards the end. At that point I remember thinking the Cubs were a lock to win the division, so I didn't mind pretending to cheer the Cardinals at certain points. How young and naive I was.
  10. Corey Patterson, Hee Sop Choi, Mark Prior, Juan Cruz, and Kerry Wood are only going to get better...the Cubs are going to be a force for years to come.
  11. He stole my heart in 03....I'd say there's another good 3-4 years before I give up on him....unless he's no longer a Cub.
  12. the thing I love about Soto is the idea the Cubs have FINALLY produced a legit pos player my fear is they will trade him cuz Kendall is such a "professional" He was definitely a legit pro player this year and I'm definitely optimistic... but he did only play like 20 games.
  13. Not sure I can agree with that. No I'd much rather have made the playoffs than not. So hypothetically, who did we trade for Tejada? Will Ohman and Ronny Cedeno?
  14. Thank you Cubs for a fun season. The excitement of winning the division outweighs the suck of losing this series. So, what realistic (or unrealistic) changes can he hope for for our 2008 world champion Chicago Cubs? I'm really holding out hope that Cuban can buy the team. And I'm hoping Hendry is gone. As far as the roster goes, we obviously need another bat. SS and RF are the best options for an upgrade. I think SS is the biggest need because I think Murton could put really good numbers together if given a chance in RF. Or move Soriano to RF and get a LF, which would probably be easier. How much do you think it would take to get Tejada? I think if we're looking to win now, Patterson is expendable. Would Patterson and Marshall be close to what it would take to get him or would it be a lot more? Here's the roster I've got in mind: Soriano RF Murton LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Tejada SS DeRosa 2B Soto C Pie CF Rotation: Zambrano Lilly Hill 2 of Marquis/Hart/Gallagher/Prior/Marmol/Veal Wood Marmol Howry Wuertz Eyre Pig Hart/Gallagher Bench: Theriot Ward Fontenot Blanco Pagan
  15. Now I'm going to be really pissed if Cuban gets screwed out of buying the Cubs.
  16. That guy may be good at impressions, but boy is he remarkably unfunny.
  17. The only difference is the Yankees threw a broken down Kevin Brown. The DBacks would throw Brandon Webb Thats really the only difference you can think of? How about ARod, Jeter, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada? The 04 Red Sox were better than us, but those Yankees were a hell of a lot better than the D-backs.
  18. In 04 when Boston was down 0-3 to the Yankees, Kevin Millar was talking to someone before game 4 and said something to the effect of, "Don't let us win tonight. We win tonight, then tomorrow we have Pedro, then Schilling, then who knows what can happen in game 7...Better not let us win tonight." All we have to do is get to game 5, then who knows what will happen. We have who I think are our two best pitchers the next two days. We'd have to face Webb, but anything can happen in game 5, we just have to get there. We're still going to do this.
  19. We're going to win this series. Its ganna happen. Screw you Dbacks, LETS GO CUBS!!!!
  20. nah, they'll use it for practicing their technique-try some of those cool feet first pop-up slides. the bull pen pitchers can do the judging on a scale of 1-5 And they'll get some use out that new super-awesome, super not-pointless graphic TBS has. The one where they show how far off the bag 9 feet is.
  21. We got swept in that series too didn't we? you're missing the point -- Enrique knew the stadium the rest of the team blew it for him God Bless Dusty Baker. I actually heard him say on the radio during the Indians Yankees game that he had managed twice in the World Series. Both times Lofton was on his team. You know with the Giants and Cubs. I knew my version of 03 was just a bad dream.
  22. Not sure about that one. I'm fine with what we have now. Why spend the money it'll take to get a starter. Spend it on offense, the pitching isn't the problem. Yeah, we have plenty of options for pitching next year. Z, Lilly, Hill for sure. Then fill out the final 2 spots with Prior ( ), Marshall, Gallagher, Marmol, Hart, Marquis ( [-X ), ?Guzman?, maybe even Veal if he can rebound. I think we should focus completely on upgrading 2 of SS, RF, CF.
  23. Lou definitely has not been helping the team. We had a RISP with Lilly up and Lou didn't pinch hit, and Lilly got one out the next inning and was pulled. I was yelling for Lou to take him out in the 3rd. Then later on he brings Eyre in to face a righty. WTF?
