  1. Oakland is now 6 GB of the Angels and 4 GB in the wildcard. Beane seems like the kind of realist that knows the A's aren't nearly the team the Angels/Red Sox are. Lets send Harden packing, Billy. Give up a few good prospects for Harden, then Cedeno and crap for Burnett. Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, Dempster, Burnett (or Hill). Let's do this, let's go crazy.
  2. I'm not counting on Hill for anything. I am. YOU GOTTA BELIEEEEEEVE!!!
  3. If Hill really has found it and we can get Burnett, we'll be sitting pretty. Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Hill, Burnett...that's pretty sexy. Let's get something done, Jim.
  4. With the momentum back on the Cubs side, I doubt we lose again before the ASB
  5. Burrell was playing over his head but he's actually really good, unlike those other guys.
  6. Sure, that's easy, I know that stat without even looking it up: irrelevant. So there's no correlation between wildness and giving up runs? You can't walk accross the plate. Dude. Obviously when you allow baserunners, especially to lead off an inning, you are going to put yourself in a worse position to win the game. I was probably being a bigger jerk than I should have been , but what difference does it make what his record is when he hits/walks the leadoff guy? He's in worse shape to convert the save, thats all that really needs to be said. I was still irked about the game and bringing up another arbitrary statistic such as that just adds to the doom and gloom around here. It's not like it's some magical act that causes Woody to break down into tears on the mound. Happens to all of us.
  7. I don't think they're trying to be like The Office. They're the Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman people.
  8. ....nice He was off by 3 hits Impressive none-the-less
  9. Wood threw a lot of pitches, plus we have a 5 run lead. I'd put in Lieber or Wuertz.
  10. Sounds very intelligent. Was he talking about the syringe he uses for the roids?
  11. The last day of Chip Caray doing Cubs games was a happy one for me. If his name was Chip Roberts, he would be cleaning toilets. What if that meant he was Brian Robert's son? I'm sure he could score him some kind of job better than that.
  12. Remember yesterday, after Aramis's last 1 pitch out, I said if he had another weak 1-pitch out, I'd fly to STL and call him stupid. The next AB, he watched the first 2 pitches, but got out. Then I said if he didn't break out of his slump I was going to fly to STL and call him stupid. The next AB, he hit a home run and now has had a great game so far. I take my thank you's in the form of personal checks. And you're welcome.
  13. Um...wow. No Fukudome or Edmonds? Wow. Yeah, why are we sitting our 2 best lefties against a RHP?
  14. I really wish the Cubs would have gone after Hudson when the Braves were trying to deal him after the one bad year of his career. They should have just done what I was begging them to do in my mind. Has anyone heard if there's any chance the Braves would trade him now?
  15. I like those matchups. That's a sweepable series.
  16. Yea but we can only get to 3.5 or drop to 2.5 today. Still not quite there
  17. It's nice of the Cardinals to let the Cubs go double or nothing with this game.
  18. I think it needs to be pointed out again that the dude is only 18. Over 4 1/2 years younger than Laporta (who's in AA), and 3 1/2 years younger than Wieters (who's in A+). I think Vitters will end up being better than both of them. Also, how disappointing has Donaldson been after how good he was last year.
  19. Am I missing something obvious here where the answer could somehow be something other than "of course"? Yeah, I guess you are. If getting Sabathia means clearing out all of our valuable prospects, I am not sure he is worth it. I am not saying no, I just think it is an interesting question. Yes, but you hinged it on whether or not Sabathia is "that much better" than Burnett, and I would respond, even without anyone even knowing exactly what "that much better" actually is, yes, Sabathia is easily that much better than Burnett, and then some. What is the appeal of Burnett at this point? His numbers have generally been medicore to awful for a while now, and he's got a serious injury history. His only appeal would be in bumping Marquis, but looking at Burnett's numbers, is that even all that appealing? I'd argue anyone of value used to get Burnett is much more of a waste than the boatload it would take to land Sabathia. The last 3 years he's had an ERA+ of 115, 115, and 119. Each of those years he's had an ERA under 4, with 2 of those season in the AL East. I think he's very likely to have a good second half, the only thing that really worries me is his injuries. I think it would be stupid not to get him considering it will barely cost anything, player wise. I don't see who else we can get, unless the Braves or Astros are looking to deal Hudson or Oswalt. I still think we really need to snatch up Milton Bradley. If Brunett can be had with Cedeno basically as the centerpiece, hey, go nuts. If it costs anything significant, like Marshall, who some have tossed out, then no. Burnett has way too many red flags for the money he costs. I definitely agree with getting MB, and have wanted him for the Cubs for a while now. Yeah, I just want Burnett on the assumption that we can throw some junk Canada's way. (I guess Cedeno isn't exactly junk, but I wouldn't shed any tears over losing him.)
