Does Hendry not understand how this process works? Apparently not. As was discussed earlier in the thread, the Cubs have not received compensation for losing a Type A free agent since Jim Hendry took over as GM. The Cubs haven't lost a whole lot of Type A guys to free agency during his tenure, but it's still kind of telling in terms of how Hendry handles these matters. That really depends on how much money you want to have available in the FA market. If the fear is Lilly taking the arbitration like the rumors suggest and limiting your ability to sign someone else. Thats $10 million that could be used elsewhere and bringing up someone else from the minors. I think this was a very acceptable trade given the market and who we gave up.

I agree. The word the past two weeks has been that the Cubs would most definitely trade Lilly. If they do not by the trade deadline, then the likelihood is that they didn't get offers they felt were of adequate value. In that scenario, I'm fine with them not trading him. Could make a move for Cliff Lee, but that will be expensive.

When Vitters is ready, he'll take over third. I don't really see much of a realistic scenario where either Lee or Starlin are a regular third baseman. As has been mentioned, just not enough power potential. If everybody pans out, the likely 2014 infield is Vitters (3B), HJ Lee (SS), Starlin (2B), ? (1B). Ochocinco will, barring injury. He's never had a season where he started 14+ games and had fewer than 1000 yards. Maybe, but it'll be more because of TO than Chad. I think it would be more because of Carson Palmer. I actually think it's going to work out. Mainly because T.O. is playing for his career. If there is a circus in Cincy and T.O. complains about not getting the ball, nobody will sign him again. I think this re-creates the Ocho/Housh/Henry combo with Ocho/Bryant/Owens, but on a lower level of production. Palmer won't throw for 4000 yards like a few years ago. Ocho won't catch 80 for 1400. T.O. won't catch Housh's 100+. Bryant won't get Henry's 18 ypc and 9 TDs. But I think we can reasonably expect 70/1,000 for Ocho, 50/700 for T.O., and Bryant to get 40/600 ish. Andre Caldwell is a good looking young WR who gets screwed though. He caught 50 last year, and now will be the #4. And they still have Matt Jones and Jordan Shipley. And Dezmon Briscoe. Matt Jones will probably be looking for a job again soon. Shipley can return punts (I believe) so I think he's safe. Plus, T.O. only is gonna be there 1 year. Shipley could do kickoffs too. I was hoping to see him as the #3 but that will probably be on hold for a year. I forgot they have Quan Cosby too who will probably be gone now.

Owens signs with the Bengals. They now have a ton of WR. Him with Ochocinco will be a match made in twitter heaven. Awesome at the end of the phone interview Ochocinco says he just got word that all of their games just got moved to pay-per-view.

Im sure the state of Tennessee is enjoying this. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the positive effect on their fan base is at least partially behind this lawsuit. From a comical enjoyment standpoint of this whole thing, good for them.
