Yeah, that was the thing about the potential for all four semifinalist to be from South America - they all could lose as well. Hopefully Uruguay is the only one to make it. Haha suck it, South America. Yep. And even though Europe didn't have the best group stage of the Cup, only had six in the Round of 16 and three in the quarters (both the fewest ever), they're looking likely to have three of the four semifinalists as long as Spain doesn't choke. EDIT: And if Spain wins, Europe will make it 15 straight Cups with at least one team in the final. Also of note, no European team has won a World Cup not staged on the continent. I think that changes this year.

Not plays, just tactical decisions. And lots of yelling at the officials. but how do they make tactical decisions on the field? just shout at one of their guys whenever they run past? They have certain players they mostly communicate with. Most of the time they are just yelling the same way we yell at the tv, but they will change up the tactics through out the game change formations, drop off a certain player mark up a certain player, tell someone to exploit a certain side of the field.

Why does espn keep saying Holland winning is a huge upset?

Difficult to control, mostly. It's basically giving up a 50/50 ball when you are currently in control. Easier to set up a more precise cross off a short throw than throw in such a way that it goes exactly where you want across the field. At this level you have one guy who can make the throw 35-40 yards. Edit: maybe not that far but 25+ yards.

The odds of us having a 1st time WC winner has also shot up dramatically. Good point. We're only going to have one previous champion in the semifinals regardless. I'd love a Spain-Netherlands final. If Uruguay wins then we would have two, but I still can't see them winning it all even though I have been very impressed with them. I would love that final too. I actually like Spain and Germany to meet with Spain winning that match up.
