  1. The only real issues with marginal teams in the playoffs are from the NBA and NHL. The NFL has had a weak NFC West for a few years now, but 1 of those teams went to and nearly won the Superbowl. Plus, you're still talking about only 12 of 32 teams getting in the playoffs, and most teams earn their way by winning either 10 games or beating other contenders head-to-head. MLB only allows 4 teams from each league of 30, no complaints there. NBA and NHL have over 1/2 the teams getting in which is [expletive]. But at least in the NHL, it has been proven that anything can happen in the playoffs, and you often have lower seeds doing very well. So, that leaves the NBA as the only legit complaint. And I think the real problem isn't a team like Boise running the table in the tourney. It's a team like Alabama or LSU who has had chances to beat heavyweights and have failed 2-3 times. They are probably still good enough to do some damage in the tournament, but their inability to beat those tops teams shouldn't get rewarded with a chance at a national title. A team with 1 slip-up like Boise is one thing, whether it's against a mediocre team or not. But a team that starts the year ranked high but loses 2 or 3 tough games is another. Alabama starting the season #1 pretty much guarantees them a shot at the national championship, because unless they lose 4 times they are going to finish ranked high enough to get in the tourney. Exactly the regular season still needs to hold a whole lot of weight, that value drops a lot just going from 8 to 16 teams.
  2. I'm still trying to figure out who this guy is standing next to Dempster. I wish I could wake up one day, shave and look 10 years younger. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/ap/2f/fullj.1fcd6b53b299a7aceef9aef20ab83f94/ap-cb2bd92a3e2f40428e266d5160915af9.jpg
  3. A college football playoff would probably be the best thing ever. What sports fan wouldn't watch all eight of those first-round games? 4 would be easier just from a tv standpoint and trying to maximize ratings. Throw them all on all CBS and have them start at 11 am with Gus Johnson annoucing every game.
  4. This is exactly what I have been calling for.
  5. How so? It's just stupid. The 8th best team in the country has no reason to be in a playoff for the national championship, the 16th clearly does not. Winners of crap conferences should not get free rides into the playoffs either. It is going to be an additional 4 games for the finalists, which is a legitimate concern for the NCAA to be against it. The stupid NCAA basketball tournament does nothing but produce a bunch of whining babies thinking they got screwed out of the 65th spot, and the same thing is going to happen here. Cap it at 8 at the most, but 4 would be ideal. The regular season produces the 4 best teams. This is where I agree, a 2 or 3 loss team has not need to be in a playoff. This year having Oregon v Wisconsin and Auburn v TCU in the semi's would have been great. Stanford and Ohio State could make a claim too, but thats about it.
  6. How so? I think 4 is more than enough, but if it takes 16 to get rid of the BCS I am fine with that. They do 16 in 1AA and it doesn't seem to be any issue. that's because nobody gives a crap about IAA in the first place. I was more talking about the schools and players playing extra games.

  8. I didn't take any in the draft, but lucked out and found Stefan Logan and Marc Mariani (who has been one of the best return men this year) on waivers. That's saved my season. I think the return yards were blown a little out of proportion in this league. Would have helped if I had looked over that prior to the draft.
  9. I love Mark Cuban!
  10. Davies is hoping to make the 18 this weekend.
  11. Cue lame jokes about Texas A&M being a Division II school in Abilene. Will Gameday be at this Tournament of Cotton Championship? Last year purple won, but I am pulling for the pink cotton candy this year.
  12. I think this is the problem from what I have seen of him. At times he is just never involved at all or just seems to be missing. Do you seem him as a forward?
  13. What a ridiculous comment on Zambrano. He experienced a turnaround under the tutelage of the same guy that has been in charge of his tutelage his entire career? This was my exact thought.
  14. I would be great if that became a giant billboard in NY.
  15. I would not mind Agudelo to Spain at all, I wonder what his asking price is? I have never been overly impressed with Shea, I liked Dax McCarty more.
  16. It will hit you again on April 1st.
  17. Is this the guy from Akron last year or two years ago?
  18. Fulham may be making a move for Donovan. Still think he would prefer a move to Everton though.
  19. I don't think he wanted to be "the man" in Texas. I don't think he was ever comfortable with all the hero worship they placed on him. What are you basing this on? Thats been all of the talk here in Dallas this morning, but I think its mostly an excuse. They are also saying now they were not comfortable giving him all of that money too. He seemed to enjoy being the spotlight on the mound during the playoffs.
  20. Blackburn wants to hire Maradona. Everyone knows European blow is nowhere near as good as South American, so it might be tough for him to take the job.
  21. I don't think they have even had time to pick their jaws off the floor yet.
  22. Why can't the Cubs be the Phillies?
  23. I'm going to go with RichRod.
  24. yeah, he's holding out for a better job. If he doesn't get the head coaching offer he wants this offseason, then Auburn will be willing to give him 1.3-1.5 million/season to remain the offensive coordinator. I'd prefer Malzahn over Chizik as AU's head coach. He's staying at Auburn. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5915527&campaign=rss&source=ESPNUHeadlines yeah, i'm hearing Auburn will pay him 1.3 million a year, and he will sign an extension. If true, this would probably just delay his move to head coaching by one year. However, this doesn't sound like a move an intelligent guy would make if he thought new evidence was going to surface that would lead to Auburn being penalized in some fashion. Is he thinking Cam Newton is going to stay? I could understand it with the potential NFL lockout, but still I thought all signs pointed towards to leaving being a mid 1st round pick.
