  1. If you have had 3 at bats and have only seen 4 pitches, you are not doing your job. Unless of course, you have multiple homers. The Cubs have been pretty good at working pitchers this year (compared to last year).
  2. Jason Kendall is worse at throwing than Piazza. Think about that.
  3. I'll take Theriot 7 days a week. Playing SS, that is.
  4. Being late is not a direct indicator of work ethic, not even close. In a lot of jobs, those who like to show up early and leave late are often just butt kissers trying to make a good impression who aren't actually good workers. We've got a couple. And as you said, you don't know the circumstances. So quit pretending you know where his head is. Taking less talent and more desire 10 times out of 10 is how you end up with a crappy baseball team, 10 times out of 10. I revised my quote above. I can pretend I know where his head is all I want. If a guy who is trying to break in to the major leagues doesn't get to the park on time, something is wrong. That is obvious. It is also obvious that the organization felt the need to demote Eric Patterson, and the stated reason (by the media) is that he was sent down because he was late to work. It also is reported that this was a problem in Iowa. When a doesn't get his ass to work on time, I'm sorry jersey, but again - it is obvious that he has a bad work ethic. You can't assume that because a guy gets to work early and leaves late that he is a kissass. Sorry, but some things are just obvious. I'll be happy to eat crow if he proves otherwise, all I'm sayin is based on what info we have. Hopefully more encouraging news will surface.
  5. Being late is a direct indicator of work ethic, particularly in baseball. Without knowing the circumstances, it's pretty obvious that the kid's head isn't where it needs to be, and I'd rather have a guy with less talent and more desire on the team 10 times out of 10.
  6. How can this be defended? If you can't get excited about being a member of the Chicago Cub baseball club, something is not right. If your JOB is playing baseball, and you are not HUNGRY enough to show up to work on time, something is wrong. I applaud the Cubs for sending Eric Patterson down. A guy doesn't deserve to be on the club if he can't show that he wants to be there - of all times, in the middle of a pennant race. Dude needs to pull his head out. Quickly. Assuming this is the case.
  7. I've noticed him freezing on fastballs on the outside corner, and occasionally the inside corner. He doesn't seem aggressive. He is probably thinking too much up there. His average is still nice, but I wonder if it would benefit Lee if Piniella shook up the lineup. SS Theriot 2B DeRosa LF Soriano 3B Ramirez 1B Lee RF Floyd/Monroe CF Jones CA Kendall
  8. Yeah, the announcers for Arizona are douche Cub retreads. I don't remember Grace actually "shredding" the Cubs, but Brennaman was going off on DLee and Aram for not "running" out balls in the 9th when the Cubs had a big lead. He went as far as to say "kids, take note that this is a clinic on how NOT to run the bases." It was almost as pathetic as Grace demanding a standing ovation for a guy when his team was down 3-1.
  9. Ditto on what UMFan83 said. BIG FREAKING DEAL if the Cub fans booed Bob. He has done this song and dance SEVERAL times, and at least he has the courtesy to throw in the "and you do the same for the Cubs." If the boos bothered him, why would he come do it again? Almost every time the Brewers are in town, right? BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FUN. I get mad because I think it jinxes the Cubs, but last night it didn't seem to make any difference. Good fun, folks. Bob knows it.
  10. Huh? Did you even watch tonights game? Jones slapped one to left and had good at bats. Face it, he is going to be at his best when he is playing every day. Everyone has different styles of hitting, and stepping close to the plate is not what makes you hit that outside pitch (which Jones did tonight). The guy is playing BIG right now, which happens to be about the best time he could be producing. Give him his props.
  11. I have to think Wood is a lifelong Cub, unless the very unlikely circumstance of him asking for unreasonable things happens. I think Wood retires a Cub. I hope he does.
  12. Can a player from the 40 man roster be a PTBNL?
  13. No, actually he sucked. Your assesment of his contributions suck. Burnitz played 160 games of solid RF. He scored 84 runs, hit 24 HR, and drove in 87 on a bad team.
  14. Jeromy Burnitz did a great job for the Cubs.
  15. Did Sandberg's new wife screw the MLB Players Union too?
  16. Roberto Alomar is a guy I think was a better 2nd baseman than Joe Morgan. He had twice as many Gold Gloves as Morgan as well.
  17. With all the underachievement the Cubs have gotten out of their prospects in the past few years, I think we fans of the Cubs appreciate players like Ryan Theriot who busts his ass and plays the game the right way. That is why he is so popular, and it has nothing to do with his skin color.
  18. Dave Dombrowski is on the record as saying, "I wouldn't trade Cameron Maybin straight up for Alfonso Soriano...." so I am looking forward to seeing how good this kid can be.
  19. I can remember when Theriot played at LSU. He was the exact same player - always hustling his ass off, always getting on base and making things happen. His dad has probably the sweetest moustache you could ever see. He's a hell of a Cub.
  20. Speed or no speed, being a fatass increases your chance for injury significantly - and will eventually limit his versatility to where he won't really be an option in the OF. Wouldn't hurt him to take his physical fitness a little more seriously. Fat or not, he would be an excellent Cub.
  21. Miggy really does need to mix in a salad.
  22. Maybe Lou was trying to send a message that he wants/needs more power from his bench/lineup?
  23. I can equate Sammy Sosa's Cub career with my childhood belief in Santa Claus - when it was happening (believing in Santa and enjoying Sosa's HRs) I thought it was real and it was awesome. Now that I know it was not, it isn't quite as thrilling and I kinda feel like a dumbass. That's the way it is, unfortunately. We don't know that performance-enhancing drugs help enhance your performance? Really? Is this for real? You honestly don't think that adding 20-30 pounds of solid muscle is going to have ANY kind of affect on your strength and ability to drive the ball further? Really? Wow.
  24. You are absolutely right. That's a bit too simplistic. Although a good pitcher (like Maddux) is going to be doing exactly what you say a "power" pitcher will do. I'm not sure if you have ever been a pitcher, but a finesse pitcher who actually does rely on his defense is going to be doing the nibbling, etc. that you say a power pitcher does. Actually, all good pitchers are going to be doing this.
