  1. Kinda with you there, considering Murton has shown to be one of the teams better hitters against LHP. He deserves to start, but who knows if that is going to happen with the Cubs.
  2. Sign Fukudome. Platoon Murton/Pie. When Pie plays against RHP - Pie in CF, Fukudome in RF. When Murton plays against LHP - Fukudome in CF, Murton in RF. Trade for Dontrelle Willis and sign Kuroda (sp?).
  3. Put me in the camp that doesn't think Dempster was really that bad. He was a LOT better than 2006, but if the Cubs could get Cordero for a reasonable price - it would be a good divisional move. I'd also like to see Woody stay.
  4. I have read that Fukudome started as an infielder, but he could not field ground balls and moved to the OF - where he improved a lot defensively. Word is he has decent speed and a strong arm.
  5. Jersey - so you are saying the Cubs had no problems with LHP in 2007? In addition, you don't think the Cubs could use a few left handed hitters in the lineup? Jones' numbers weren't so bad against LHP in 2007, maybe he figured something out.
  6. I disagree with the notion that Jacque needs to go. This club needs Left-handed bats, and hitters who can handle LHP - both of which JJ can do. He is a solid option in CF and RF, both of which are possibilities for two young/semi-young players (Pie/Murton). Unless the Cubs can land an impact player for either CF or RF, there is really no reason to deal Jacque Jones.
  7. Make no mistake about it, Alex Rodriguez is the best player in baseball. A $350 million dollar contract is absolutely ridiculous, though.
  8. What if you could use the extra 12 million to get Fukodome/JD Drew (just an example). So you would have Soriano and Fukodome/Drew for 30 million compared to A-rod for 30 million. First off, I would never give Drew $12 million a year. Never. I would rather drop $12 million a year on Fukudome and hope it worked out. Since you said it was just an example, and if the Cubs only had that much to spend, I'd rather have Soriano and Fukudome than JUST A-Rod. If I had the choice to spend $30m a year on Arod.....wait a minute, I'm going to take that back. I would never spend $30 million on ANY player. It's been a tough day. Personally, I don't think that I would ever spend more than $15m on any one player. Unless I was spending someone else's money that didn't have a problem with it, that is.
  9. If I had to choose one or the other, A-Rod in a heartbeat.
  10. Why would Murton need to platoon? He hits LHP well.
  11. Does Kerry Wood even want to be the closer, or would he prefer starting?
  12. Worded perfectly.
  13. I never thought Murton would work in RF, but doesn't have as weak of an arm as I thought - or at least I was impressed with some of his throws from RF last season. I know Cliff Floyd said last month on the Mike North Show that he was "50/50 on returning to the Cubs, depending on what they wanted to do with Murton." The fact that Floyd is gone makes me think that maybe Murton is going to get a chance, or something else. I hope that something else is Fukudome. I think Murton could help a lot of teams, including the Cubs. He can hit lefties, which the Cubs need. I still think he would be a good #2 hitter because of his OB potential. Tough call.
  14. It seems to me that the Padres might be more interested in Eric Patterson (2B & OF). I'd rather deal him than Pie, that's for sure.
  15. I really don't think we want J.D. Drew and the pricetag that comes along with him. Think about it. There is a LOT more that the Cubs can do with $14 a year. Here is the breakdown of Drews contract: 2008 - $14 million 2009 - $14 million 2010 - $14 million 2011 - $14 million **team has the right to void the deal after 2009 season if he sustains a baseball injury to his right shoulder that causes him to be on the DL for 35 days during the 2009 season. **the team has the right to void the deal after 2009 season if he sustains a baseball injury to his right shoulder that causes him end the season on the DL and begin the 2010 season on the DL. **team has the right to void the deal after the 2010 season if he sustains a baseball injury to his right shoulder that causes him to be placed on the DL for 35 days during 2010 season or if he ends the season on the DL and cannot begin the following season on the active roster **before the contract can be voided, a group of 3 doctors (a team doctor, Drew's doctor and a third impartial doctor) must determine that the DL stint was the result of the exact right shoulder injury he has suffered in the past. 16. What is this list and where is Derrek Lee?
  17. Respectfully, why would the Cubs want another backup OFer? It seems like we have Soriano and a bunch of backups. I hope they invest in a difference-making OFer.
  18. I'm thinking Fukudome would be a better investment.
  19. I'll tell you guys something - I used to be very against Murton in RF, but after seeing the way he threw the ball and somewhat adjusted - I'm a believer. I have no problem with a Pie, Jones, Murton rotation in CF/RF if the Cubs can't land a stud and unload Jones. Murton hits LHP, and the Cubs need a lot of that.
  20. Grady Little may be the most underappreciated manager in the game.
  21. Don't knock on Billy Joe's opinion. He may be right, you may be crazy.
  22. Continue to pay him while he rehabs his neck.
  23. Did you just name drop Billy Joe Tolliver? My god, that would have ended the name dropping thread if it were on the first page. Nice work. BTW, what in god's name do you think Billy Joe and AROD talk about when they hang out? Pretty soon, someone's going to tell me that Jon Kitna and Carl Everett are going to church together. Absolutely - I did. Thanks for catching that.
  24. Aaron Rowand? He would make the Cubs a better team.
