Wainwright has alot of potential. He reminds me alot of Carpenter. I could see him winning 15-20 games a year. -
Well, he has never shown the ability to do any of those things before. Maybe the shoulder injury will improve those aspects of his game. Not true. I remember Miller having some pretty solid years before he injured his shoulder. 16-8 in 01 15-4 in 02 14-13 in 03

So you would take Freel or Clark over Wells? I think you guys are getting to caught up with the whole OBP. I would take the guy who hits around .300 with 30HR and 100RBI a year, over a guy like Freel or Clark who will only put up a .370 OBP. :lol: I guess im the only one who would take the better player. While Wells has been better this year, it's debatable whether he is the better player. Freel was better in 2004-2005. Wells has a better slugging, but Freel's numbers have been remarkably consistent. The same can't be said for Wells. Wells will hit around .300 each year, he will hit close to 30hr a year, and drive in 100 runs a year. He is the better player. Wells is entering his prime. I think he could repeat his numbers next year. It'd be much more accurate to say he will do those things twice every five years. 162 game average for Vernon Wells: .285 Average 26HR 96RBI .330 OBP 162 game average for Freel: .276 Average 6HR 35RBI 46SB .369OBP 162 game average for ClarK: .283 Average 9HR 48RBI 12 SB .361OBP 162 game average for Pierre: .305 Average 2HR 47RBI 51SB .355 OBP Depends on what the team needs. If you need a leadoff hitter then go for Pierre, Freel or Clark. If you need more power go for Wells. Cubs need a guy like Wells in their lineup.

Why are you writing off Miller? Give the guy a chance. You dont need to throw 90+ to have success in the big leagues. If he locates his fastball, changes speeds, and changes the eye level of a hitter he will do fine.

You would have to be crazy to take Freel or Clark over Vernon Wells. Not really. Vernon Wells is having a tremendous year but his previous two seasons he posted OPS+ of 104 and 103. It would probably take a lot to get him, while the Reds and Brewers are more than willing to part with Freel or Clark. Freel and Clark post MUCH better On-Base Percentages, which is exactly what the Cubs need, not more toolsy guys who swing at everything. I dont agree with anything you said. Let's take a look at Vernon's numbers for this year: AVG .313 | HR 31 | RBI 93 | OBP .367 | SLG .568 . Yeah I guess Freel and that other guy are better. What part of but his previous two seasons did you not take note of in this situation? Vernon Wells is way better than Freel or that bum Clark. Wells brings more to a team than Freel or Clark would. I cant believe im actually having to type this. He is not overrated. He will hit around .300, hit 30 HR a year, and drive in over a 100. Having Vernon Wells in CF and Bengie Molina behind the plate, would be better than Pierre in Cf and Barrett and his horrible pitch calling.

My First Game At Wrigley (9/6/06)

My first game at Wrigley was July 4th 2000. I remember Rick Aguliera blowing the save against the Pirates. Then some fan shouted "I will never come here again". I went this year when Guzman made his debut against the Marlins. After the game I went into one of the little stores in Wrigley. As I looked at the wall I saw Wood, Prior's, Zambrano's, Lee's, and Nomar's jersey hanging on the wall. I shouted "DL , DL, soon to be on the DL, DL, and not even on the team anymore. I thought it was funny. :D -
Performance wise Zito is pretty damn solid. Zito's career numbers show he is a ace: 101-62 1.24 WHIP .231BAA 3.54ERA, not to mention his 2002 CY award. Zito has never been on the DL. So, I dont know why you would be scared of his health. He is worth around 12-15 million a year. I know Hendry is a big fan of Zito. That being said, I expect Hendry to make a offer to Zito.

Hendry signed a 2yr extension in April. He is not going to get fired.

I could see Hendry making a trade for a guy like Tim Hudson. I am nearly certain the Braves will be shopping him this Winter. I would stay away from Tim Hudson. I think he is starting to show signs of breaking down. Some guys who interest me are: Zito, Weaver, Padilla, Marquis, Pettitte, Wolf, and Suppan.

Because that's what personalized instruction involves. one instructor and 200+ kids. Exactly. Why spend $200 on something you wont remmeber in a couple of months? Instead, you will have Mr. Mill's videos at your house all the time. With both of you being in the Chicagoland area, I'd love to see a reference as to whom you might be speaking of. I know baseball in this area and I know the academies for the ones that have the most demand, they are extremely well run and able to provide instrux that has worked. I've seen enough players in this area that have been able to make dramatic improvements from the Summer of going into their Senior year into the next Spring. I know Don Cooper has his whitesox pitching camp in December. Jim Hickey had one a couple of years ago in Orland Park. Not sure if he is still doing them.

The starting pitching on the FA market is very slim. I think Hendry might have to acquire a pitcher through a trade(John Lackey, Tim Hudson). -

If you have a son I would recommend buying Mill's program. But, if you feel a pitching instructor is the way to go, then im not going to stop you.

College players use this as well. You can call him on Thursdays for pitching advice. I'm sure it's helped out some pitchers and he offers sound advice, but I'd never recommend it over personalized instruction (assuming I know the instructor). His DVD's and book's are so detailed. I dont blame you for being skeptical. I was at first. I had this program for a couple of years now. I still go back and look at the video's, because they are so helpful.

I'd rather trust someone who's viewing everything I do. You can send in a video tape of yourself, and he will send it back with advice on how to correct your problem. How much one on one time do you get with pitching instructors? Believe me I know how it works. You get very little one on one time with a group of 200+ kids. In this case, you always have his videos/books to look at.

It breaks down Tom glavine's and Kris Benson's daily routines. Tom Glavine throwing routine: Day1: Glavine Makes his scheduled start Day2: Plays catch with pitching coach in the outfield for 10 minutes Day3: Glavine takes the mound for 10-12 minutes going through his full assortment of pitches at about 70%. Day4: Back on the mound again for 10-12 minutes going through his full assortment of pitches again at 70%. Day5: Next scheduled start. Instructors I feel are a waste of time. Unless your getting personal one on one work from a person who knows what they are talking about. This program will help you fix your problem. I think it has 15,000 success stories, including mine.

While I'm sure his interest is in the right place, anyone who would downgrade the importance of local instructors is misguided. If a parent had a choice between that program or one of the better instrux programs in the area, I'd hope they'd do the research and find they'd be better off with personalized instruction. The guy who does this program is a former major league pitcher. Dick Mills. This program comes with 4 dvd's and pitching books. If you go to a pitching camp, you tend to forget most of things over time. This is the best program out there. I gurantee you it is. Barry Zito used this program. He even has a article in it that suggest you should consider buying it. He increased his velocity from 84-90 when he was in high school in just 2 weeks. Just by fixing a flaw in his mechanics. I increased my velocity from 63 my freshman year in high school to 88 my senior year.

You're working from the rare exception. HS kids are lucky if they have a command pitch and an out pitch, even then they're likely all-conference. You're talking about pitchers with 4 pitches (FB, 2 seam, Ch, CB) and the ability to locate all of them. Most ML'ers can't do that. It's a good principle, finding someone who can do those things is another story. I agree. Finding a pitcher that can do this day in and day out is really hard. Greg Maddux is the best example of this. You can improve your control doing bullpens. Good control starts with good mechanics. One thing a individual can do is work on throwing more strikes from mid thigh to the knees. Guranteed success. At least I hope it would be.
