  1. Hand and elbow are too low, ball facing forward, body is ahead of arm. After just noticing those things, I could tell you that he will land on stiff front leg, and will over-stride or land on his heel. I just notcied that he is not using his hips enough. Which puts stress on the pitching arm. So I was right, cool. I haven't pitched in 6 years. What do you think about Sheets in 2004? Sheets in 04 was one of the better pitchers in the league. He played on a poor Brewers team, which caused his w-l record to be worse than it should of been. I already said there are the exceptions when using wins to judge a pitcher. But, I also said pitchers like Zambrano, Capuano, Johnson had alot of wins on poor teams. Which indicates how good they are by their pitching record.

Im sure Sheets knows what he is doing wrong. It is really hard though to change a pitchers mechanics. Specially considering Sheets has been pitching that way his whole life. Im pretty educated on the pitching side. So for you guys who think im just a pitcher who knows how to throw a curveball, and dosent know anything about pitching, you are false.

  4. And thats YOUR opinion. I disagree with that. Is that ok? If you want to be wrong, sure. Im not wrong, and you're not right either. Depends on how a person judges a pitcher. I judge a pitcher by Wins, IP, BAA, WHIP, and the number of starts(30-35). And I'll take Pitching Runs Created along with date of birth, height, weight, and eye color and would still have a better idea who was the better pitcher. I know more about pitching than you do. So I highly doubt you could judge a pitcher better than me. I know more about internet technologies, message boards, etc. than you. So I really think you should stop posting. What the hell are you talking about?
  5. And, believe it or not, Vance has watched pitchers play! And even though he was never a mediocre high school baseball player, he still has an ability to look at a pitcher and see what his stuff looks like, if his mechanics are good, what the batters look like while facing them, how much fortitude the pitcher has, how the defense is relaxed while playing behind him, and all that jazz! Anyone can watch a pitcher and see if he's good or not! Since you said anyone can judge a pitcher by how good his mechanics are. I want to know what you think, or anyone else thinks Ben Sheets is doing wrong in this photo? http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Ben-Sheets---2005-Pitching-Action-Photograph-C12044492.jpeg
  6. And thats YOUR opinion. I disagree with that. Is that ok? Yes it is OK, but it's not just his opinion. It's the opinion of a lot of knowledgeable basefall fans. Wins are meaningless because they relate to a team's offense as much (if not more) than the pitcher. Pitcher A could stink up the joint yet win 9-8, while Pitcher B could pitch a masterpiece but lose 1-0 on an unearned run. Without question Pitcher B would have pitched the better game, yet he'd have a loss while Pitcher A would have a win. Well said. Look at a game earlier this year when Reyes threw a one-hitter against the Sox and still got the loss. He made one bad pitch in a game where he was very dominant. Wins are not a very good stat to measure a pitcher's performance because of the exact reason that you mentioned. Randy Johnson, Chris Capuano, and Carlos Zambrano each won alot of games on poor teams. You can judge a pitcher by the amount of wins he has.

So I highly doubt you could judge a pitcher better than me. Maybe actually watching a pitcher pitch, you might be able to discern more info about him than Vance. Maybe. But looking at a statbook and seeing who's a better pitcher, my money is on Vance. All of my money, for that matter. You would file for bankruptcy then. Watching a pitcher pitch plays in how you judge him. And anyone could look up a pitchers stats to judge him.

  10. No to Podthetic, and a maybe to Jenkins.
  11. Strikeouts are unconcentrated AB's. You can never gurantee a player will make a play. Nothing wrong with having the concept of putting the ball in play.

Without question Pitcher B would have pitched the better game, yet he'd have a loss while Pitcher A would have a win. I did mention there were the exception out there(Marquis). But, you can judge a SP by the number of wins he has in a season. Capuano won 18 games last year. I would say he deserved those 18 wins last year. Playing on a team like Brewers who made alot of errors last year made it even tougher for him.
  13. His curveball can keep the hitters off balance. But, you're right. You need a changeup to have some kind of success in the big leagues. I still can see him winning 15-20 games next year for the Cards.

  15. And that's pretty ridiculous. This isn't little league or high school ball for that matter. Even the most defensively challenged major leaguer makes most of the plays. When the ball is put in play, more times than not, an out is recorded. The put it in play mantra is great in little league. I hate 12 year olds that strike out because with that age, 75% of the time when the ball is in play, something good does happen for the team at bat. Not so in the majors. I want production. Dunn makes fewer outs than most other options for LF. When he does make an out, it's often with the K. Big deal because he is still making fewer outs. Outs are the most valuable commodity in the game. The players who make fewer outs (OBP) and make the most of their contact (SLG) are the most valuable (OPS). Ok, you obviosuly didnt understand what I was saying. And there you go again, jumping to conclusions. When you put the ball in play you are putting pressure on the defense. Putting the ball in play means hits, doubles, triples, HR. I dont know why you brought up little league ball? I rather have guys who put the ball in play, then guys who strikeout with a guy on 3b with less than 2 outs. Thats considered a wasted AB. Strikeouts dont help the team. Wasted AB's. A concept you probably will never understand. I like Dunn, but I dont like the fact he will strikeout 200 times a year, and he is a huge liability in the field. Which hurts the team.
  16. Angels in the west.
  17. Mill's program is the best one out there if you ask me. If you are getting one on one attention, then thats maybe something I would consider. Depends on who this tutor is though. I feel like I have an advantage over other pitchers, because I have the Mill's pitching program.
  18. Wins are pointless? I dont agree with that. Pitcher's wins? Yes they are. We're not talking about team wins. I never said you guys were talkng about team wins. Stop putting words in my mouth. I guess Maddux's streak of 15 wins per season is not importantf or a team? Usually if a pitcher has 15 + wins, they are keeping their team in the game. But, there are the exceptions(Jason Marquis).
  19. I like Dunn, but I dont like the fact he is a liability in the field, and he K's way too much. Cubs already have a couple of guys who will strikeout over a 100 times in a season(lee and Jones). Strikeouts are wasted AB's to me. Having 3 guys in your lineup who will K is not something I would like in a lineup. Put the ball in play and make something happen.
  20. Wins are pointless? I dont agree with that.
  21. Yeah, I sort of hijacked the thread. However, I don't think you'll find factual evidence that AVG with RISP is the reason teams score more runs than other teams. While some players on a team may do better in those situations, there will likely be guys who do worse in those situations on that same team. The way to truly improve runs scored is to increase your OBP, which gives guys (good or bad at AVG with RISP) more opportunities to drive in runs. The same can be said for the info TheDude is requesting. Just in reverse. A team that has the better WHIP will likely give up less runs than teams that have a much higher WHIP. It's tough to gather the information he requests. The Cubs have been very good as a team in not giving up hits. But, walks can be just as damaging and they are horrible when it comes to allowing baserunners. I don't really think it correlates to AVG with RISP as much as it correlates to OBP in relation to runs scored. WHIP ia a hugely important stat for a pitcher. So is wins, and BAA
  22. Should be the death sentence of the pitching coach. He is the one working with the pitchers everyday. He should of noticed this while watching film of Liriano. That is just really poor coaching if you ask me. Gardenhire has the ultimate decision of when or if a guy comes back. He was the one that felt like Liriano was ready. Pitching coach/trainer says if the pitcher is ready. I heard a report about how he felt fine playing catch. Playing catch is different then throwing from the mound at 100% intensity. You are putting so much more stress on your arm at game speed than you are in a controlled situation.
  23. Ryu has alot of sink on his fastball. He seems like a bullpen guy to me.

  25. Liriano has horrible mechanics. Pitchers can only improve because of what they do in practice since pitching is a skilled activity not a strength activity. Liriano is not fit to throw 200 innings a year if you ask me. Watching Liriano pitch earlier this year, and watching his mechancis on video, I noticed his body is moving off line toward third base as he delivers the ball. He is not taking his body directly toward the plate. Kerry Wood like. This causes the arm to take the most stress.
