  1. I'm not so sure of that. I think many fans have no idea of the breakdown of how the minors interact with MLB. I agree those guys would have mentioned it many times over but I really don't think the casual fan would know all the minor league info. Heck, I'm still learning stuff and I've been a fan for many a score! You don't need to know how it all works to know that Pujols was not Cubs property. If the guy cares enough about the Cubs to go to their website and ask Muskat a question, he's more than just a casual fan. A casual fan wouldn't even know who Pujols is.
  2. Alienate a casual fan? Give him a break? Give me a break. It was a stupid question. I'm not laughing in his face, I'm just agreeing with others who said it was stupid.
  3. I really don't understand your theories on backup QBs.
  4. I think it's absurd that a guy who would take the time to write in to the Cubs internet based Q&A wouldn't be able to figure that out on his own. Nobody has ever said anything about that ever. Did he really think he stumbled across this nugget? That tells me he's completely oblivious, and deserving of ridicule.
  5. If installed properly, it shouldn't. I know for some it does. But ever since I had mine professionally installed, I've had very few problems. My former roomate got cable at his new place and said that has more outages than directv.
  6. I have doubts about the 10% number. That might be the number who can't get it technically, but it probably doesn't include all the people who can't get it for other reasons, like homeowners associations. There are also renters who theoretically could get it (no site line issues, suitable place for install), but have a landlord that won't allow a dish to be installed. The fact is the dishes are ugly. I'm a directv subscriber. I've had it at my last few places. But when moving, being able to have directv was a problem. Most places made it impossible. And with all the construction going on, there's no guarantee that in the next couple years I'll still be able to get it at my current place. I think the directv fanatics on this site are sounding ridiculous in the way they are insulting people who have cable and basically insinuating they are dumb for staying with cable. Directv has major flaws. They've had a disastrous rollout of their new hd/dvr box. The cards you need in your receiver regularly burn out and have to be replaced. It's a nuisance. They have the same problems as anybody else with subcontracted technicians. I think the weather related issues are a bit overblown, although I guess that depends largely on location. I do think directv offers a whole lot more than cable, and has its advantages. But it is by no means the glorious product some people are pretending it is.
  7. I think Moose/Hester/Bradley/Davis would cause more headaches, but I still don't see the Bears bringing out the 4 WR set for the Super Bowl. You'd take Berrian out of the mix? He's the Bears #1 receiver.
  8. How is this comparable? It's more like a season ticket holder being told he can't have season tickets anymore, even if he's willing to pay for them.
  9. Sports guy makes a surprising pick in the Super Bowl http://www.theonion.com/content/node/57837?utm_source=slate_rss_1
  10. I can't agree with much of this. Yes, Lee has to be healthy and reasonably good. But Prior doesn't have to throw 200 innings for this team to win. They'd need some other breaks if he isn't able to pitch at all. Soriano isn't an ideal leadoff hitter, but they can win with him there. Wood doesn't need to become the closer either. And I don't see why Zambrano's contract status would affect the 2007 season.
  11. But what if you dont believe that this happened, much less is possible? It always bothers me when people say something like this. Are you kidding me? I answered that in the part of my post that you didnt quote. I said, "I'm not saying you have to believe that, but that is what a good amount of people believe." It doesnt matter if you dont believe it, it offends the people that do believe it, which there are 2 billion of. Actually it does matter.
  12. You wouldn't want to experiment with him playing QB, but the Super Bowl is as good a game as any to throw a player like Hester into an offensive play or two.
  13. If the coach was an old-timer who only wanted to stay for a couple years, it would make sense.
  14. NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Tribune Co. is not enthusiastic about three proposals bidding on some or all of the company's assets, and has gone back to firms that did due diligence but did not bid to see if they are willing to make an offer, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. One of the groups the newspaper publisher and broadcaster approached again was a consortium including private-equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners, Providence Equity Partners Inc., and Apollo Advisors LP, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.
  15. I think he'd have to be carried on the DL rather than released for insurance to cover it. That's why, several years ago, the Orioles kept Albert Belle on the DL rather than releasing him (or him retiring) even though it was known he couldn't play anymore. If that's the case, why would they release them? They could just transfer him to the 60 day DL and he doesn't count against the roster. Or does that only work once rosters have been set at the end of ST? They could have worked out a settlement with the insurance company that allows them to release him now.
  16. The big difference is that Rex did that in a 16 game season, his first full season, when you would expect some bad games. Marquis did it in a 33 game schedule, giving him much more of a chance to allow his better games to offset bad games. He also did that 6 games into a career that has had 2 other terrible seasons. Plus, a pitcher's numbers are a far greater indication of exactly what he did than a QB's numbers. QB's numbers depend heavily on what his players do. A pitcher's numbers depend on his defense to an extent, but it's much more of a 1 on 1 battle between pitcher and hitter. The QB is facing 11 opponents trying to stop him and needs the help of 10 teammates. You already admitted it's clear somebody else is the worst on the list. When we already know the answer, the only point in asking the question again is because you want to stir controversy. The "bad Rex" story sells, and the media loves it. They don't want decent Rex. And the only people who would actually think Rex was the worst are people too stupid to understand the truth.
  17. All that proves is how many stupid people there are that follow football. The problem is that putting him in a group of the worst QB's in the super bowl suggests he will have a career no better than those guys. Even if you narrowed it down to say who had the worst season, you'd be an idiot for including Grossman. Grossman did more good things this season than any of those QBs did throughout their careers.
  18. Well, relievers often sign deals that offer incentives for "finishing games" as a way of being compensated if they were thrust into the closer's role. I'm guessing this could just be a way for Floyd to profit if, for some reason, he becomes a starter.
  19. I think there's a significant difference between calling her Muskat, and bitching about those players. I don't think people have sympathy for the woman. And I think she's terrible at what she does and is a poor excuse for a journalist. Calling Pierre slappy refers to how he does his job. Calling Jacque jock strap is just as childish as calling Muskat Muskat. Now, if you were to call her Mustnotreadthisdrivelkat, that would be about how she does her job.
  20. Can someone say I told you so again when Floyd goes 2 for 3 with a double? Even in this worst case scenario, Floyd's not a scrub. No, just a broken down has been. Well, he was playing with pain all last season and he's had this injury before on the other leg. He came back from it just fine then. He's not a has been. It's not like he just inexlicably started going downhill. Injuries were the reason, not ability. He's not Sosa. Age plays a part. And those injuries, combined with his age, don't make for a good bet that he'll be healthy and productive this year.
  21. Can someone say I told you so again when Floyd goes 2 for 3 with a double? Even in this worst case scenario, Floyd's not a scrub. No, just a broken down has been. I think the told you so's will have to wait no matter what. If it's June and Murton isn't getting 75% of the PA, then some people can chirp. But if Floyd is really productive it'll be easier to swallow.
  22. Can someone say I told you so again when Floyd goes 2 for 3 with a double? Even in this worst case scenario, Floyd's not a scrub. In the worst case scenario Floyd would be pretty close to a scrub.
  23. They face Cincy on opening day, so it's likely to be Harang or Arroyo. He's got a 1700 OPS against Arroyo but is 0-6 against Harang.
  24. blahblahblah The Bears are not the cheapest franchise in the league. The amount of money they spent on signing bonuses in recent years was outstanding. Lovie signed his contract before the recent surge in salaries. Nobody cried about how low it was then. Now people are acting as though they've cut his pay or something. Dungy isn't making big bucks in Indy, and he's accomplished a hell of a lot more than Lovie, and he's been successful at his current job for much longer. I think Jerry and Ted are making it quite clear that they'll be paying Lovie a lot soon.
