  1. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=272957 I haven't heard much about this news conference, but it would be the perfect time to announce an extension. Get the media focused on Jerry/Lovie for the week. Make those guys the story for now, and get rid of any potential controversy/distractions involving those contracts. B&B mentioned this yesterday. It could be news about Angelo getting an extension, which is likely to happen prior to Lovie's extension, or it could be an announcement that both are extended... Or none of the above. Like my decisive reporting skills? A team of two tails? I'm guessing B&B will have fun with that quote.
  2. SI predicted that many years ago. You might be right, but I doubt it'll ever go 100% PPV. That would be the surest way to erode the fan base.
  3. I don't understand what that means. It looks like one paragraph contradicts the other? He wants to be part of the ownership group, but not take on 100% of the company.
  4. Well, his best run involved a lot of east/west. But that was my favorite TJ game since he came here. That's how Jones should be used, as the complementary player to Benson's relentless pounding of the ball. This game actually has me wanting TJ back next year as a complimentary back. The combination of him and Benson, although they did have a slow start, has really turned into a powerful weapon. I've always wanted him back as the other guy. He's not that highly paid, I'm guessing they can keep him without much trouble.
  5. He's the primary Bears beat writer at the Trib. I don't know the backstory, or his credibility. I would bet you a hundred dollars his primary motivation for such a story would be to create interest and get noticed in Indy (which would probably increase Trib sales in Indy). I do know his unibrow photo on the trib site freaks me out. Thanks for the info-most Colts fans I've talked to this morning don't think it's that bad, but it certainly has gotten a few mentions. I just read it. I think it's a pretty fair article.

  9. I look forward to Bill O'Reilly taking over as the Cub President! I'm curious on how MLB is going to take this. Is it a possible conflict of interest? What sort of conflict? This is the sort of thing people were talking about when they warned that simply getting new ownership would not guarantee better ownership. Murdock owning part of the Dodgers and Cubs. Yep....be careful for what you wish for. I thought Newscorp was completely out of the Dodgers ownership situation. Didn't they sell it all to McCourt?

  11. They could become the most look againingest team ever.
  12. The question is what "his AB" means in terms of numbers. 400 PA? 500 PA? 600 PA? 350 PA?
  13. Yeah. Although I didn't pay close attention. They talked about how stupid some people are (somebody apparantly sent an email about Grossman growing up a Colts fan and subconsciously wanting Indy to win). Grossman quote: "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard", B&B reply: "You'll see a lot worse". How was going out on the town this season? RG, "I was mostly under the radar since I'm not 6'10", but people would come up to me and say they have my back and still support him. It was nice to hear, but kind of strange since we were 12-2 or something." Talk about how weird the week will be. Not much else. Same old Rex really. He sounds confident, but a little annoyed.
  14. Yeah, but that is why he would be a "short-term" option for CF. Pie will be up by what...July at the latest. So, all the Cubs would need from Pagan is to not embarrassed himself. The problem is that Pagan is very likely to embarass himself, and any GM/manager that let's him play. Then brings guys like Fuld/Walker, etc, etc, to camp and see if one of them can prove to be a "short-term" option in CF. I don't mind going outside the ORG, for immediate help that significantly improves the area of weakness, but that move is to find a 'young, cheap short term option for CF until Pie is ready" that is spedning money, just to spend money. The Cubs have a couple of options in the minors, that would keep the spot warm, until Pie is ready. So, unless the Cubs can land a player like Church, I would rather the Cubs look in house. I think the entire philosphy is wrong. The Cubs don't need a place holder in CF. They're not that good that they can stand one. In additon, I don't like the idea of waiting until Pie is ready. It's clear to me he is not ready, notwithstanding his strong finish in AAA last year. They are hoping he is ready by mid-season or perhaps spring training. I wouldn't bet on it. Once again the Cubs main philsophy seems to be "hope". Hope is the absence of planning and why the Cubs have not done well since 2004. I'm not promoting the notion of a placeholder myself. I'm just saying Pagan in CF would be awful. CubinNY, I also hate the idea of waiting on Pie. It's way too similar to Hendry's past ideas of hoping for Miller and Prior in May, and waiting for the trading deadline to make his moves instead of fielding the best team possible before the season starts. I don't have great faith in Pie, but they might as well start with him in center in April if they really think he'll be ready by June. The idea that he'll become ready with a couple months more of AAA is silly.
  15. The solution to that problem is not having Neifi up after Lee, so he doesn't feel the need to swing at crap.
  16. Certainly, but judging by Lovie, Urlacher and P-Nut's comments in the media, you can tell they relish proving everyone wrong. How is it disrespect? Clearly the Bears had no motivation in the Packers game, and it cost them. Clearly they had a huge amount of motivation last week, and it propelled them a lopsided win. Those are just a couple of examples, but I think the right movtivation can maximize talent output, or lack of motivation can minimize it. I don't think that disrespects the talent of the team. It's saying that they can't do it on their own talent, skill, motivation, and desire. That they need something extra. The Bears were playing for nothing in the final week of the season and were playing for everything in the playoffs. That's all the motivation they needed. Keep in mind that the media loves to feel so important and they're the ones who continually bring up media-related questions in press conferences. And feeling a bit of redemption by rubbing it in the media's face after the fact doesn't mean that it played an important part in any victory. The fact that the team admitted Lovie motivated the team by reading the names of all the experts that predicted the Bears would lose, and the score they predicted, tells me they used it as motivation. It's not disrespect to say they used it as motivation. I think the Bears were clearly the most talented team in the NFC, but the question was whether or not they'd play at their best. Maybe they didn't need something extra, but they definitely used it.
  17. I know it's not the same, but I picked them for our SB drinking game that year. You drink whenever your team loses possession (punt, fumble, int) without scoring, loses yardage, gives up a first down or gives up points. It usually doesn't last through the 2nd quarter.
  18. Hendry became GM in 2002. In the 4 years before that, the team won 310 games. In the 4 seasons after that, they won 322. So, I guess technically that's an improvement, but it's negligible at best.
  19. Yeah, but that is why he would be a "short-term" option for CF. Pie will be up by what...July at the latest. So, all the Cubs would need from Pagan is to not embarrassed himself. The problem is that Pagan is very likely to embarass himself, and any GM/manager that let's him play.
  20. Because Pagan is not an everyday player. One of the more interesting stories that I will be watching is the amount of play that Murton receives if Floyd is signed. It seems to me that the Cubs want more pop in the lineup. I think Murton has the bat speed by he may need to change his swing to generate lift. I don't want to see a platoon at all, but if Murton struggles he will get the quick hook. I definitely think you've hit on the theme cubinny. Hendry is still focused on "clutch hitting", and while he acknowledges OBP, he still quickly brushes it aside and focuses heavily on what I would call power and timely hitting. I find Jim's "two things about the game" to be odd. The game is scoring runs and preventing runs. The scoring part is about getting on, first and foremost, and then driving guys in. Lou's theory about 3-4-5 hitters is just plain wrong. Those are the guys who take the most walks. You really don't want thoshe guys just swinging away. You want them to take just about anything they can't drive.
  21. They'll probably set records in tenacity.
  22. I never understood why people would want to do that anyway. The worst part about going to the game is sitting in those seats with all the downtime. And unless you get a packed house, you aren't going to come close to the best part, which is the atmosphere of the stadium going nuts. I would much rather be at home or a bar.
  23. If the Cubs are reviewing his medical records it could take awhile. Ouch. I didn't think of that, and I should have... Now I'm starting to get spring training fever. Why do I do this to myself every year? 8-) I've had spring fever ever since the Tribune started running 8 pages daily about the Bears. I'm a Bear fan, but the over-hype on the Bears is driving me crazy. Why do people consider this overhype? They are going to the Super Bowl. That's what happens. The problem is that the "overhype" started months ago and not in the last 2 weeks. I'm at the point where reading about our 3rd-string tight end's second cousin used to date Vince Lombardi's granddaughter is overhype. A special section or "wrap-around" pages leading up to the Super Bowl is one thing, but not in the middle of November. I didn't realize the trib was doing that since November. I only read it online and have noticed a huge pickup in stories during the postseason, but not earlier. You know, you don't have to read about the 3rd string TE's second cousin. I enjoy the "overhype" because it means that the Bears are worth talking about late in the season.
  24. Me too. I just can not imagine a manager saying this about a player and a player that may be playing for him this year. What's so hard to believe? Did you listen to the audio provided by the radio station? The exchange in Amazing_Grace's sig actually happened. No I didn't. But what is so hard to believe is that a manager actually had the balls to say the truth about a bad player. I spent the past 3 years just hoping the Cubs would stop praising, playing and employing players like Neifi, never even thinking anybody would actually admit the guy sucked. I'm a huge walk/OBP proponent, and want the Cubs to do better with regards to the walk, but I'm not asking for them to lead the league or anything. To me, a manager actually saying Neifi sucked is akin to Hendry going out and finding the most patient lineup he could find. It's the exact opposite of what I'd expect.
