  1. I'm no Lou expert. But I'm going to guess they will do something like a 70/30 split. It might depend on how some guys play. If, as the season goes on, there is a perception that the Cubs biggest problem is lack of LH bats, Floyd will play more. If they think power is the biggest problem, and Murton isn't on pace for 25 HR, Floyd will play more. On the other hand, if Murton is rocking, the middle of the order is bopping and the team is winning, Floyd might stay as more of a bench guy who occasionally hits for Murton. One thing that doesn't really mean much to me is whatever lip service they give to how much time people will get.
  2. Of course it's dumb, that's why people don't want to see it happen. But it's highly unlikely Floyd would take Jones's time. Floyd is strictly a LF, and both are left handed. His only real shot at starting is in the place of Murton.
  3. I don't think she has a freaking clue. Lou and Hendry have been singing a Murton lovefest the last few weeks. If anyone loses tons of at bats to Floyd, it's Jones. I don't see the point of platooning Floyd and Jones. The only reason either is valuable is they can hit RHP well.
  4. Why does it mean that? That would run contrary to everything Piniella and Hendry have been saying-they want Floyd to be the 4th OF, not take away most of Murton's AB's. Well, up until this week they said Soriano was going to be playing a corner OF spot. I think Murton is going to get the majority, as in at least 350 PA (barring injury). The question is whether it's going to be a 51/49, 60/40 or 80/20 type of majority.
  5. If Murton, Floyd, Ward, Soriano and Jones are all on the opening day roster. I have to think they'll go with another infielder there. Theriot can't be the only backup.
  6. I like how you claim everyone acts like its scientifically proven when that's not even close to true.
  7. It's certainly possible that he could be very good, but you're going to have to accept that he won't break many long runs, and he'll have his limitations. I saw Jones make at least three runs where there's just no way Benson could've broken them like Jones did. He'll have more positive yardage plays, but not as many where he bounces outside or uses a burst to bust a big run. Jones doesn't break long runs. He's far more agile than Benson. I'm thinking of one run that he made in the last game, where he was about to be bottled up and then cut and broke it outside for about an 8 yard gain (think he got down to around the 2). Watching that play, I thought that there's just no way Benson could have made that run. He'd have plowed into the pile and picked up 2 or 3. That specific play you are right. But those have been few and far between for TJ. For all his advantages in agility, he hasn't broke anymore long runs. He's a steady decent RB. Ideally he'd be the change of pace guy to Benson, but he's better than just a change of pace guy. And as a free agent after next year, I see him looking for much greener pastures one way or the other.
  8. The names on the list don't make it a great record. Besides, he had 2 games this season with longs under 10, 3 if you count the first playoff game. By my count he had 27. And I just read a story that Shaun Alexander eclipsed Barry Sanders at 60.
  9. I think Boone and Scott might both be free agents.
  10. I think that's more of a NFL trend kind of thing than absolute must for winning teams. I would be fine if they kept Jones, but if they can get value for him, I'd like to see him traded. He's a free agent after next season, so getting something for him would be worth more than letting him walk. I don't want to see them resign him.

He'll have more positive yardage plays, but not as many where he bounces outside or uses a burst to bust a big run. Jones doesn't break long runs. Neither one of them does. But doesn't Jones have some insane streak of consecutive games with at least a ten yard run? Not sure if it's over or not, but it was impressive to see. Is that really all that impressive? One 10 yard run a game isn't much of an accomplishment, especially when you play on a good team that's never getting blown out and often playing with leads.
  12. Angelo is really happy to have a Super Bowl team.
  13. Peterson could be just find as a change of pace back. The reason I'd trade Ogunleye is that he's the oldest D end on the team. It's not that I want to get rid of him, but he hasn't been as good as I'd hoped he'd be, and with Anderson around, Wale seems to be the expendable one on the line.

  15. WOR 9, the whore as I liked to call it.
  16. I'd be very happy for a couple hours and then things would be pretty much the same as they were before. Wow, really? For me it would create a before/after point in my life. The BCWWS and ACWWS eras. I bet it wouldn't. I'm guessing the extreme happiness would last longer than a couple hours. But my life would pretty much be the same within a couple days. Look at Red Sox fans. They talked about the lifting of the big monkey and all that, but they are all pretty much the same now. yeah, but there isn't that same sense of urgency for another WS title now. Granted Red Sox fans are never happy unless they have something to complain about after years of setting that standard. From most of the Red Sox, and White Sox for that matter, fans that I know, there's a sense of calm now when discussing the idea of the post-sesason. I think that was the year after affect. Boston fans didn't fret much about the 2005 postseason. But missing it in 2006 reigniting their anger. They talk about a sense of calm, but when it comes down to it, they get in the same arguments with Yankee fans. They'll be getting all worked up if the team struggles again this year. If the Cubs win it, I won't be getting all worked up about the moves they make to sign backup infielders or relievers that next offseason. I won't care much about the 5th starter. But I won't just stop caring about what they do. I don't have a "just win 1" mentality with the Cubs. I want sustained success and multiple championships. The Bears SB win may have tide people over for a while, but by the late 80's nobody was saying it was okay that they weren't as good because they won in 86.
  17. Or Benson would have to be damn near 2000 yds. Which seems likely... 8-[ I think Benson would eclipse what Jones did this year if he was a starter, which means his backup wouldn't have to match his 2006 production. Peterson could fill in that role. He racked up nearly 400 yards on 5.1 AVG in 2005 as a 3rd stringer. You could then find a late round pick who could give you another 100 over the course of a season.
  18. Probably not a first rounder, but he might get you a 2nd rounder. I wonder if any team would be interested in Jones and Wale together. How old is Jones? I wouldn't trade much for a backup RB as they are probably the easiest thing to find. Well, he's a starter. How did the carries by each Bear RB breakdown? TJ - 296 CB - 157 AP - 10

  20. No. They bilk the company out of four receivers and a dish, pay two years' worth of lowest-tier programming and then bail. Bilk? If that's what the company is offering, why shouldn't they take it?
  21. Probably not a first rounder, but he might get you a 2nd rounder. I wonder if any team would be interested in Jones and Wale together. Jones and Wale for McNabb! :pint: No thanks. The headaches caused by replacing Grossman with McNabb, McNabb's aging oft-ailing body, and his obscene cap hit, just don't make it a sound investment. I'd rather have picks.

  24. Agreed, although i think the decrease in WGN Games has a lot more to do with WGN going to a "network" affiliation and choosing not to broadcast all the Cubs games...someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's a MLB call. The days of kids across the country becoming Cubs fans because it was the only thing on in the afternoons are long gone. The only way this would bite them is if they lost current fans (doubtful), or lost enough potential fans to offset the financial gain. I don't think that will happen. Unless their father's are already Cubs fans, kids in other states aren't hanging out watching the Cubs on summer afternoons and falling in love.
