  1. One investor isn't much to go on. Depends on how big and who that investor is.
  2. My guess is b/c of Cedeno's struggles & with Dusty's love for Neifi I see a platoon coming to start the season. Platooning Cedeno with Neifi! is not a problem if it allows Cedeno to regain his confidence. Except for the little problem that Neifi sucks and shouldn't be in the lineup, anywhere.
  3. That makes ??? number 3.
  4. If he's handled properly when he's pitching, and between outings, I don't think extended rest in April is a necessity, or all that beneficial.
  5. I do. Which is why I think someone who may know a social psychologist should get an opinion. Nothing personal, I just don't trust your opinion on this. That's fine, but I wouldn't trust a pysche's opinion either.
  6. I think I'd do it without hesitation, even though I don't know anything about that guy, but he's got a great name.
  7. In other words, there's no such thing as team chemistry affecting play, and we have to wait until the end of the season to see who won to then go back and apply the label of good chemistry or bad chemistry.
  8. If you can't tell the difference between a guy being fully capable of one job, and receiving just praise for that job, but then failing after a promotion, and getting just criticism for that failure, then you don't know much about life. Hendry wasn't the GM in the 90's. He did some nice things to help the team. But saying that would be the similar to saying Isiah Thomas is a great GM because he did a lot of things to help his basketball team when he played.
  9. MLB can do whatever it wants. MLB is a private club, protected by Federal legislation. The White Sox players were acquited in a trail and still got banned. The players didn't have a union back then either. The players union is too strong today. I have a feeling they will drag this investigation out for quite sometime and release their findings towards the end of the season or even after the season is done. Therefor if someone like Bonds is definitively found to have used steroids he will just retire anyway. A second thing to think about is, what about some of these players from foreign countries where steroids are no illegal and baseball had no rule against them, what do you do about that? There were rules against using steroids, they just didn't have a rule that allowed for testing of steroids. Getting caught with them was similar to getting caught with other illegal drugs.
  10. What is QS going to tell you? A 6 IP 3 ER game is hardly worth noting, and nothing close to a 9 IP 1 ER game, even though they are ranked the same.
  11. How we "feel" the players performed is rarely an accurate assessment of how they actually did perform. This team lost games because they didn't score runs, they lost more when the starting pitching fell apart.
  12. I couldn't care less if you put Lee in left field. If you want him getting hurt, I guess that's YOUR issue. I certainly don't want MY guy getting hurt, though. Injuries would be my concern. There's a reason why Pujols isn't in the outfield anymore, and it's not because he was a terrible left-fielder. Who is getting injured on an imaginary team?
  13. This makes me happy. Wouldn't change a thing. With what they got, I wouldn't change a thing, but if I could, I'd still make some moves.
  14. If said manager had Derrek Lee on the team with him it's quite likely he would. The Cardinal organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Albert in the outfield. You guys can have your imaginary fun, but in reality, it would NEVER happen. Pujols would start at first base, and Derrek Lee would be a pinch-hitter extraordinaire. Aren't you talking about some imaginary all NL Central team? Who cares what the Cardinals organization would think?
  15. A platoon's kinda pointless because Walker is better at hitting LHPs and RHPs than Hairston. Walker's splits actually showed that he was hitting lefty pitchers much more efficiently, while still doing very well against the righties. Last year Todd was better vs LHP than RHP, but over the past 3 years total, he's been better vs RHP, and it's even more of a difference over his career.
  16. That is certainly true. He would never try to max out the LH bats against a righty, but he would sometimes go with all RH bats against a lefty. A lot of times this meant playing guys who didn't belong in starting lineups, ever. But he used Burnitz as an everyday guy, I think he'll do the same with Jones. He will probably try and line up his rest days with games against LHP from time to time, but Jacque will be in there flailing away when most LHP are out there.
  17. I'm sure you remember it differently than I, but I do know some fans really hated him in 2002 (both my friends, and people at the games who booed and jeered him). And his uninspired beginning to 2003 didn't change that. People were blasting him for being fat, out of shape and lackadaisical. They seemed let down after getting their hopes up following his 2001 breakout, and contract. I just think it's a little weak for McClendon to look back and say his fate was sealed when Ramirez was traded. That team wouldn't have been winning a ton of games with or without him.
  18. As a rule, whenever you have to add "for the fans sake", you can be assured that your pleas will go unanswered. These guys aren't going to open up, publicly or privately, with or without some sort of MLB endorsed immunity.
  19. I wish they worried more about on field production than clubhouse chemisty. All the chemically inspired moves they've made haven't done a thing to help the team win more.
  20. Who was sick of him back then? I have a couple friends who are Pirates fans, who admit even now they were sick of him, although one of their fathers pretends he knew Ramirez would be great all along. I read about the team trying to deal him for a long time, and never heard or read anything about people who would miss him. And while it's not a great source for a poll, the general consensus on the message boards was they would not be upset to see him go (although they didn't necessarily like what they got).
  21. I wouldn't assume that. Dusty wasn't aware that Remlinger couldn't get LH hitters out, even though there was plenty of evidence. Jones is an everyday player in the Cubs mind, so no matter who is pitching, he's going to start the vast majority of games.
  22. Man, I always dreamed the Cubs would have a solid 1-8, with a nice bench that had room for a guy like Bacon who can steal at will and walk every once in a while.
  23. I like to measure the size of his intangible muscle, then add it to 1.2x his mental toughness.
  24. Yeah, it's going to be tough for him to compete for the 2B job when starting at shortstop.
