  1. It's something like this that shows my biggest problem with the Cubs. They aren't just different from a patient team, they are the extreme opposite. I'm not asking them to be Oakland, I'm just asking them to take on some of their traits. This is not at all surprising when you've seen, read or heard anything about the Cubs in recent years. They don't just fail to stress the value of the walk, they downplay it significantly by stressing an overly aggressive approach.
  2. I don't think he'll make a full seasons worth of starts. I just think he'll make almost all of his starts, from the end of April through the season. If you call 33 starts a full season, then take off 5 starts for April. Now you're at 28, and I think he can make 25 or so.
  3. Ain't gonna happen. Why not? Given Kerry's history I think the burden of proof falls on you to prove that it will happen. Nobody can prove anything either way. But it's not like it would be unprecedented for him to go 5 months making almost all of his starts.
  4. I'm surprised MLB hasn't said something like their hats have to be perfectly straight, I'm sure NFL wouln't allow it. I don't mind it though. (i'll wear mine a lil to the side, from time to time when I want to feel cool :) ) The No Fun League would not only have outlawed wearing your hat to the side, they would have standardized home run trots as well. No posing after you hit the ball. Must circle the bases in a certain amount of time or else your run doesn't count. Something crazy like that. If baseball players posed and strutted half as much as football players, there'd be a lot more bean ball wars. Good point. If baseball players celebrated like football players, there would be celebrations for every play. A guy would get a single and would do a dance after reaching first base. I know this isn't a football forum, but something I never understood was why a defensive back would jump up an celebrate a big hit even though the other team just got a big gain and/or picked up a first down. That always baffles me. Why would you celebrate that? Imagine a second baseman jumping around after catching a throw that held a guy to a double instead of a triple.
  5. Wanna make a wager on that? What would you like to wager exactly?

  7. Well, I wouldn't rule out your scenario, but I don't think it'll necessarily happen that way. When the original 7-10 day thing was announced, I held out hope he'd be back by late April. Now I'm thinking May is more realistic, and not overly aggressive either. And I think Wood will make it back and make almost all his starts from late April thru the season.
  8. Because it looks assinine. What are they thinking when they do it? "Dude, wearing a hat straight just isn't offbeat and hip enough. If I tilt it to the side a little bit, it gives me that hard aura that I'm looking for. Like I'm trying to hard to look like I'm not trying hard." I can't stand these little punk 17 year olds that wear their Tarheels caps sideways. Pretentious twits. First, watch the language. Second, again, it doesn't affect you in anyway. Why do you care what someone thinks of themselves? http://celebopedia.com/kevin-federline/images/kevin-federline.jpg It's a slippery slope man.
  9. Old school steroids supposedly break you down more. But a lot of the newer synthetic stuff was supposedly great for healing and recovery. They probably all cause you to break down quicker over time, but in the short run, and that could be anywhere from a few months to several years, they can prevent it. It's quite possible that his early steroid use has something to do with his physical problems, while his later more advanced use is keeping him together longer than would be expected.
  10. Again, it's not all about Bonds. But who knows, maybe they can humiliate him into retirement. I think they have a chance to make some good out of this investigation. They could get even more testing on the new stuff, they could open the door for the ability to upgrade testing whenever they need to. They could hurt the union in other ways, which would help them in their next round of CBA talks. I'm not saying I have great faith in these guys, but they are not in a hopeless position to accomplish nothing.
  11. They might not be able to force people to talk, but they could convince some people to talk, and might find some people who can't wait to talk. And with a senator on the job, I wouldn't be surprised if they found some way to inspire a few people to talk. Besides, it's not all about Bonds. Sure he's a major player in the story, but there's a whole lot more to look into if they ever get stuck on the Bonds angle.
  12. That dude is just covered in spunk.
  13. What? So as long as somebody is getting paid to do something, it justifies doing it? You aren't making any sense here. Wojo has the right to call Farns an idiot, and to even go beyond that in the way he calls him an idiot. But others have a right to call him a hack for how he goes about doing his job. Go ahead and criticize what he writes. I could care less about that. But don't criticize him for writing. There is a distinct difference between the two. Obviously you don't understand the difference. I am not a hypocrite because I'm not criticizing either of you for voicing your opinions. I don't agree with what you are saying and am voicing my opinion on that. Wojo is getting paid to write a column and his job description requires him to write his opinion on the current happenings of the sports world. He is getting paid to do that. As I said, if you don't like him then don't read him. It's not very complicated. I understand what's happening here, and it's pretty clear you're writing yourself into a corner. I can criticize him for writing what he wrote. I'm not criticizing him for writing. I'm not even criticizing him for what he wrote. I'm pointing out how absurdly hyprocritical it is to say a writer has the right to write what he wants as long as he's getting paid, but a normal citizen doesn't have the right to criticize him for writing what he wrote. No matter how much you try to twist it, that's what you are doing, and you are plain old wrong.
  14. I think MLB has a few motivations. One is to keep congress an arm's length away. One is to try and humiliate the union. One is to show the public they are serious about steroids. And despite all this cynicism, I do think that part of it is to make positive headway with the steroids problem.
  15. And that is where you are wrong. Criticizing somebody simply for voicing their opinion on something is hypocritical. As I said, you can criticize somebody for what their opinion is, but you are flat out wrong thinking you can criticize Wojo for saying what he wants to. He gets paid to write a column and got paid to write Cubs Nation. You can disagree with every word that comes out of his mouth but don't criticize him for doing his job. If you do that then I suggest you change your user name to HypocriteinNY. That's wrong. Very wrong. Life is not NSBB. You can criticize people for having the lack of courtesy to talk about people without acting like a name calling child. You might think somebody is fat and ugly. But you can keep that to yourself. And if you don't, you better believe somebody is going to criticize you for voicing your opinion. Didn't you call me a hypocrite. Wouldn't you consider that name calling? The childish name calling was in reference to the capital of idiots, or whatever that line was. I don't think calling somebody a hypocrite is name calling. If I called you a hypocritical poopoo head, that would be name calling. But I never called you a hyprocite. I said I can't stand how hypocritical some can be when it comes to free speech. Meaning, they act like they are really interested in everybody having freedom of speech, when they really only want one side to have free speech, and attempt to muffle the other side of the debate. That is what you do when you say a writer can write whatever he gets paid to write, and nobody can criticize him for writing that.

  17. In order to get them out of the game, it is helpful to have a full understanding of just how they affected the game. And when you have guys as close to the situation as Dusty Baker claiming he didn't even know what steroids were, well then obviously baseball needs to find out more about the story. As for your complaint about the media harping, well, that's not MLB's job. You deny thinking they should ignore it, but the rest of your words certainly indicate you'd much rather pretend nothing is wrong and move forward, Mark McGwire style, than actually do something about the problem. Once you admit there was a problem, if you want to solve the problem you better get as much information about that problem that you can get.
  18. And that is where you are wrong. Criticizing somebody simply for voicing their opinion on something is hypocritical. 19. That's garbage. The world isn't run by the rules of NSBB. There is no "attack the post not the poster" rule to life. You can criticize somebody for saying what he wants to. I can criticize Dusty not only for having the opinion that black people handle hot weather better, but also for saying it.
  20. Wait, he has the right to call somebody an idiot, but somebody else doesn't have the right to criticize him for that? Sure he has the right to free speech. But so do the people who think he's a hack. I can't stand how hypocritical some can be when it comes to free speech. You have the right to freedom of speech, but you also have to be willing to take the consequences of whatever you say, short of government interference. Freedom of speech does not protect you from criticism for saying what you say.
  21. I don't have a problem with somebody else looking stupid. That doesn't change the fact they look stupid.
  22. I did notice that most writers did not make a big deal of the quote. But I've feared for quite some time that Ronny will be on an incredibly short leash. And while it's true that most teams operate this way, that doesn't make it a sound practice. So it doesn't take much to start worrying. Ronny has to be given a chance to fail, and fail badly, then get the chance to play through it and rebound before being replaced by such dead weight as Neifi. Neifi guarantees ONLY a .300 OBP? That was ONE YEAR! Worst OBP in his career. He could have a .330-.340 year for all we know. And that guy is FAR from dead weight, man. Neifi's best non-Colorado OBP is 298. Neifi's career OBP even with more than half his career with the Rockies is 301. Aside from the ridiculousness of saying Neifi could have a .330-.340 OBP, or that he is anything but dead weight, what in the world were you responding to in the posts you quoted that had anything to do with .300 OBP?
