  1. Not many ever thought Z was better than Prior, I think the debate was who was better between Wood and Z. A few years ago maybe, but Z is better now than he was when people first started ranking the big 3. He's the best of the 3.
  2. Yeah, that's not true. When Prior is healthy, it's not close. Wood is a much closer call, admittedly. The others haven't done what Zambrano has done. Healthy or not, Zambrano is the best. If you want to use the "Prior at his best" arguement, then sleep on this game and talk about "Zambrano at his best" as well.
  3. Wow, Soriano just took a terrible route to the ball to give up another hit to Nady.
  4. so I guess gangster or gangsta is in honor of playing the Cubs, since Chicago is the only place in the world with mob ties.
  5. Schilling and Millwood dealing in a 0-0 tie in the sun. Mets leading 2-1, now a homerun by Wright makes it 3-1.
  6. From time to time you'll work during a dull game, but that's about it.
  7. The Reds announcer is surprisingly critical of Reds players given it's opening day. "This is when overanxiousness, more often than not, causes Kearns to swing at a pitch out of the zone."
  8. He did get one last year. He went about 2 years without one until hitting one last summer.
  9. For those of you listening to the Cincy broadcast feed. Now that it's between innings, I have to bring it up. What in the world were they talking about when they referred to waiting for the 2nd inning to find out if it's a gangster or a gangsta?
  10. Because that is where LoDuca normally hits, and baseball people give an inordinate amount of respect to Paul and his contactability. The Mets network's truck lost power, so they are doing playbyplay and analysis from the studio and showing, what I assume, is ESPN's feed.
  11. I'm gonna try and stay optimistic about Jones.. Maybe they'll give him enough days off against lefties that his numbers will be solid. Hey, Jones has a 1.250 OPS against Harang (in 4 AB's) So what's his story again? 2 years ago, he was hitting great. That's not all that long ago. Injuries? He claims that as they lost some of their better hitters, he felt more pressure to drive in a lot of runs and hit for power, and started to try to pull the ball too much. You know...that makes some sense. Plus...Batting behind Lee and Ramirez he ought to see quite a few good pitches to hit this year. Despite my displeasure with the length of his contract, i've got cautious optimism that he could have an unexpectedly solid year. A) I don't see how batting behind Lee and Ramirez will help him see better pitches. Maybe a huge stolen base threat will mean more fastballs, but that's not the case with Lee and Ramirez. B) If he did suck because of pressure, what does that say about his mental aptitude to handle a pressure packed season of trying to help this team to the playoffs? I think the most likely scenario is that he's not that good. But he peaked in his mid-to-late 20's, like most ballpayers do, and has struggled to return to those levels since.
  12. I've got the Mets game on in my office, they're playing Washington on their new network. Soriano just stole 2nd as LoDuca ripped his own mitt off trying to make the transition. Glavine in his first spot of trouble, 1st/2nd 1 out.
  13. That is weird, because I looked this morning and he was on the 40 man roster. Now he is not on the active roster. Looks to clearly be a mistake.
  14. My question is, did this guy have to be rostered? Did they risk losing him to some rule if he wasn't on the 40-man today? It looks like there are 41 on the list, so obviously there is a mistake somewhere.

  17. I'm just finishing up stuff from the day of the first spring training game.
  18. I'm not sure if this thread is still addressing the topic of Wood to the Yankees. But I'd just like to note that this sort of "rumor" is exactly the type of thing many NY writers put out with no regard for the facts. They just list many of the top names that may or may not be available, and then speculate they might become Yankees. I think it's so when the Yankees actually do make a deal for 1 of the 150 guys mentioned, they can feel smart for having predicted the move.
  19. I read in a few places that Lee isn't afraid to negotiate during the season just as long as they are close and just hammering out details, which appears to be the case.
  20. Man, there sure is a lot of "it seems" when it comes to the Wuertz bashing. Yeah, Wuertz looked tired when he was used 6 out of 7 days, Aardsma had a couple good games this spring, it definetely seems like a perfect time to make a change.
