  1. Oh how I long for those days of mediocrity.
  2. No, I didn't overlook it. I know you think that. But what I don't get is why you think it's an all or nothing package? Hendry's extension is not grounds for keeping Baker. I want them all gone. But I'll take 1 before I settle for none.
  3. And the point is overuse has a carry over effect. Everything I've heard about pitching injuries suggest they build up over time. 2004-2005 injuries could very well have been at least partially influenced by 2002 and 2003 usage patterns.
  4. Intervention by Andy or players literally refusing to play.
  5. So you think Larry, Jim, Dusty and the pitcher gather around a video machine and breakdown mechanics. Then what's the point of a pitching coach? If you admit they were overused then you have to admit that part of the later problems was likely due to that overuse. There's no such thing as overuse if it doesn't have repercussions. The repercusion is problems down the road, which those guys obviously suffered.
  6. He also doesn't know what it's like to not manage deep into October and has never had a team with poor fundamentals. I don't think he'll quit and I don't think Hendry will fire him. But that's just another sign of what a bad job he's done as GM, because he clearly should.
  7. Baker has final say, but until I hear differently I can only assume Rothschild has agreed with the usage patterns. A pitching coach does not go to the GM and ask for permission to work on mechanics. That's ridiculous. Pitching coaches are constantly monitoring and working with pitchers and their mechanics.
  8. Walked guys then was hit hard. Settled down briefly then went to crap again.
  9. Did anybody see the video of a guy in Florida (I think) throwing out the first pitch and throwing it somewhere in the direction of the 3rd base dugout? There were photographers in front and to the right and it went more right than them. It was just on PTI.
  10. Depends, but I think I hate the fly out. A fly is going to be out except for the most exteme circumstances. On the other hand, a lot of singles are just ground outs that didn't go to where the fielder was. Of course, the GIDP is the worst, I'd rather they hit it in the air when the situation calls for it. The absolute worst is the first pitch out of the strike zone foul pop out.
  11. Maybe I do, but that's only because I have zero confidence in him and you have negative confidence. So. How does this justify keeping the bad manager?
  12. I completely disagree that there is nothing they can do about it. It's pretty clear that misuse and overuse played some role in their injuries. Mechanics supposedly played another role. The pitching coach is very much responsible for those things. He's not 100% responsible, but he takes some blame.
  13. Baker will finish the season because Hendry won't fire him. Why? Because then the heat will only be on Hendry and he knows that. Right now I think most fans despise Baker more and Hendry can be comfortable with that. Personally, I think, they both should go or they both should stay. To me, their both the same and it does no good to keep one. Ideally, they both should go. I mean c'mon seriously why fire him now? Can any other manager get anymore wins from this team? We have 3 rookie pitchers in our rotation! Do I think we could get more wins right now with another manager? No. My post is just being consistent because I said the same thing during the season last year and during this off-season. And, yes, there are more fire Dusty posts now than there were five weeks ago. Why are people so hung up on the 3 rookie pitchers. They'll end up with about a month's worth of that situation. And the only reason is because they had 2 veterans that failed and they felt compelled to replace. Why wouldn't their be more fire Baker posts when the team is playing worse? Aren't management types supposed to be held accountable for failure?
  14. I don't understand the both should stay or both should go theory. Why should the mistake of extending Hendry be compounded by the mistake of keeping Baker? Hendry's extension means he's here through at least next season (and probably 2008). We're stuck with that. We don't have to be stuck with Hendry and Baker together. Maybe it's unlikely, but maybe Hendry could find some success with a different manager. He doesn't do things the way I'd like him to, but I know there's more than one way to win. The Hendry/Baker combo isn't going to do it, but why not take a chance on the Hendry/whoever combo? If that doesn't work, then you clean house. Why torture yourself by keeping Baker just because Hendry is also staying? That's like saying you if you're going to kick me in the balls you might as well punch me in the face while you're at it.
  15. There's no need to bring up Baker's stupid decision, even though he's been around forever and should know better, and he had plenty of time to think it through. But it's perfectly fine to pick on the rookie who failed to make the proper decision in a fraction of a second? Cedeno is an overagressive hitter as is. Yes, he shouldn't have offered, but it's absurd to suggest Dusty shouldn't be ridiculed for that absolutely god awful decision.
  16. To prevent the GIDP that would end the inning.
  17. I don't think that was Baker's fault. Just because a manager calls for a sac bunt doesn't mean you try and bunt at balls out of the zone. Even Marshall didn't do that. That was another example of bad baseball. This time it happens to be Cedeno showing incompetence at the plate. perhaps bad bseball on cedeno's part, but you have to play for a big inning when you're down 5, w/ a rookie on the mound, and especially w/ the way this team has been hitting. I hated the sac bunt call. But Cedeno also helped to ruin the inning because he could've been hitting with a 3-0 or 3-1 count. It seems that people want to hold only Baker accountable. Baker made another stupid decision. But Cedeno added to this team's poor and stupid play by insisting on offering at two pitchers clearly out of the strike zone. yeah, have to agree that cedeno can't be given a pass. it can't all be about dusty hate. Cedeno takes some blame. But he's also a rookie playing for a rookie hating manager who preaches over aggression and stupid baseball. It's a lot more excusable for a young ballplayer to make that mistake than it is for an old experience manager to make the mistake Dusty made. Baker has to be held to a higher standard.
  18. So basketball refs have a vested interest but baseball umps don't? I have no doubt that Bonds gets a small zone. No it can't be proved, but Zambrano striking him out looking does not disprove that claim either.
  19. I don't think that was Baker's fault. Just because a manager calls for a sac bunt doesn't mean you try and bunt at balls out of the zone. Even Marshall didn't do that. That was another example of bad baseball. This time it happens to be Cedeno showing incompetence at the plate. It's a lot harder to stop yourself from offering at a pitch out of the zone than it is to not make a stupid strategic decision.
  20. Where do you live goony? I mean, how are you listening to the Giants announcers? Probably XM. Ah, that makes sense. So is it Krukow and Kuiper or Jon Miller? It was Miller but switched to somebody else last inning.
  21. Where do you live goony? I mean, how are you listening to the Giants announcers? I'm listening to the game on XM.
  22. What proof? The result of calling the bunt was a guy who got behind early and GIDP. He was wild. If you never call the bunt you could easily have gotten Cedeno into a hitter's count and the result would be completely different.
