  1. Cabrera already is great. i wouldnt put him at the same level as a Pujlos yet but he is close Pujols is the best player in the game. You don't have to be the best player, or as good as the best player, to be considered great. Cabrera is already there.
  2. Cabrera already is great.
  3. He has already started to pick it up (900 OPS past 7 days) and is highly likely to keep it picked up for a while. Even if he finishes 2006 with numbers below 2005, he could easily get more money than he's guaranteed right now. Salaries are on the rise again. Ramirez will get paid.
  4. Cabrera is Venezuelan, like Zambrano, not Dominican, like Ramirez.
  5. I saw him talking with Pierre, but I caught it apparantly toward the end of the conversation, maybe on a replay. It didn't look like a chewing out, from what I saw. May be I saw it as a chewing b/c Dusty never says anything to his guys in public (sans visits to the mound). I felt surprised that eh would let a convo be captured on camera so easily. I think that's why Comcast felt like they should show it. And maybe that's why Dusty decided to have the conversation front and center with nothing between them and the camera.

  7. The fact that Hendry got an extension he did not come close to earning does not mean the Cubs should extend Baker the same opportunity. We're not talking about trying to treat your children the same way with equal sized presents. This is a business. People have to pay for failure.
  8. That's definitely got to be tough. But Greg is a pro, and I don't think he lets that affect him.
  9. I all fairness, minus the 0-5 with 4 k game, Jones has been one of our more consistent and better hitters during this slump. And I know, we have been facing righties, and yes, I am in favor of a strict platoon also; but seeing as how that is not happening, I pat him on the back for starting to step it up. Jones has a 780 OPS during the past 7 days, while Ramirez has a 907. Jacque does have the higher OBP though. Murton and Barrett have good OBPs during that stretch, but no power. Cedeno's been decent. Everybody else has sucked.
  10. I have been really surprised how much this story has picked up with the national media. Chicago writers don't seem to be addressing it, and I'm still not convinced it's really an issue. But it's picking up steam. My guess is that if it's possible, then it won't take much more than another 10 games like the last 10. I don't think it's going to happen though. It's very rare that Hendry makes a personel decision that I want to see happen.
  11. That's not really the pace though. It's like when people were saying the team was still a game over .500, so you can't complain. Yeah, the overall record was "fine" but the trend was downward and it was plainly obvious. Greg has had 5 game stretches like he did to start the season in the past couple years. I want to hope that this won't be the same season, when he racks up the mediocre-to-bad starts almost as quickly as the good. He was great to start the season, but we knew it wouldn't last. The question was how much he'd decline. Right now it's looking like the answer is "quite a bit".
  12. New Stadium and it passed last week. Passed I know about the plans for the new stadium, they've been around for a long time. And I know about the financing approval by the city council. But the fact remains, it hasn't been finalized, and it makes no sense to give Minaya credit for any of it. The Jets west side stadium received plenty of approvals as well before ultimately being shot down.
  13. Omar is getting credit for getting a new ballpark built? Does he get credit for the tv network as well? The park isn't even built, and hasn't even reached final approval. And Minaya has had nothing to do with it anyway.
  14. And i disagree with this point. Going to go SABRE on me? I'm not going to go anything on you. I just think you should layoff the insults.
  15. Soriano's line of .286/.336/.526 is not all that impressive. He has always been, and will always be, an OBP liability. He does offer plus power for a 2B. As a corner OF, not so much. Jones hurts this team, but Jones/Soriano is better than Theriot-Hairston/Soriano. I'd love to replace Jones, but doing so with weak hitters isn't going to help the team.
  16. What do you mean "you don't have to worry about where he plays"? The poster suggested RF right away and I just said 2B is the best bet. I was talking about immediately, if he were signed. And pretty much all my concerns about a Soriano trade involve future use. He's disgustingly overpaid as a corner OF, he's a defensive liablity at 2B, and he doesn't deserve the contract he's going to get. Not to mention he does nothing to address the enormous OBP problem on this team.
  17. not on 40 man There are worthless guys who are, and can be removed.
  18. And the funny thing is, I will only stick to my guns until someone can poke holes in the logic surrounding their decision. The holes have been poked, your refusal to acknowledge that doesn't mean they don't exist.
  19. I would suggest not telling people they don't understand the problem. Sac bunts are bad strategy the vast majority of the time.
  20. I'd love to have Soriano on the Cubs. Offer Jones, Rich Hill, and Wuertz...or something like that... I'd play him in RF though in place of Jones. I'd then call up Pie to start in Center. I'd start either Hairston or Theriot at second, whoever hits better. Another idea is to trying starting Hoffpauir at first and Walker at 2nd. It would be great if they could trade Jones, but I'm lukewarm on a Soriano acquisition. If they feel the need to resign him this offseason, they could end up doubling the mistake that was the Jones signing. Soriano is simply not a $10 million player. And he could be looking at a 4/40 type deal this offseason, maybe more. If they do sign him, you pretty much have to play him at 2nd. Pierre isn't going to be benched. You'd put Pie in RF and see what happens. There's no reason to go out of your way to get Hairston or Theriot in the lineup.
  21. David Wright is about as untouchable as they come. He is the centerpiece of their whole marketing scheme. The fans chant MVP when he touches a bat or a ball (they did that in week 1), and buy his jersey/shirts by the dozens.
  22. What was the point of this? Do you honestly think that people who scoff at the notion that small ball helps don't know what a suicide squeeze is? Were you trying to pick a fight with non-small ball types, or were you just going for the straight up insult without plans for replies?
  23. I'd trade damn near any combination of 5 players not named Murton, Cedeno, Ramirez, Lee, Barrett, Prior, Wood, Zambrano or Marshall. ANY combination. I'm pretty sure I'd throw Marshall into a deal for a stud like Cabrera. Marshall's value is at its absolute peak right now. Coming into the spring he wasn't even considered for a rotation spot. He's enjoying some not so expected success. He's shown enough this season that I wouldn't consider him in some of the deals I would have this past offseason. But you shouldn't let 2 months completely change your view of a player. If Marshall is the hangup in a Cabrera deal, and some of the other pitchers are coming around by then, I'd most likely include him.
  24. Are you predicting more shut-outs?
  25. If the right talent was brought back in return, it would not be hard to justify trading away any Cubs prospect.
