  1. Anybody hear Jon Miller on the pop out to left? IN THE AIR! IN THE SUN! HE MIGHT HAVE TROUBLE! CAUGHT! It was a freaking bloop to shallow left that the LF camped under.
  2. Personally, that makes it better for me because each game means something. If you lose one game, you're likely out of the National Title hunt. In the NFL you can lose a few games and still qualify for the postseason. So a loss isn't devastating. In college football, every game is important. You can't have a let down. Personally, I like that. I understand how somebody wouldn't but it works for me and entertains me. To each his own I guess. But it's not really true, because if your team has a rich history you stand a good chance of remaining high in the polls, and again, championships are determined by polls, and not games played.
  3. They had money available. I think it was more of an Andy led initiative to avoid the big boys. His theory was all about short-term contracts (which I guess came about after the whole Hampton thing, when they were offering 7 years). Andy wanted to spread the money around, which is fine, assuming you are going for several cost effective players. But then Hendry's version of spreading it around was giving millions to really bad players.
  4. In theory, I agree. So why didn't we get rid of our GM this year? You're asking the wrong person. That was another stupid decision made by MacPhail. I've never understood how someone who has done a poor job gets an extension. Although I'm happy that Baker wasn't offered an extension, I do find it hypocritical of Hendry not to offer him an extension, even for one year, when they both have done a piss-poor job. I'm not so sure Hendry didn't try. To answer Kente's question, they didn't get rid of the GM this year because they don't realize what a bad job he's done.
  5. It could have been funny in like a little snippet. But not so much as a full article. My thoughts exactly. A quick little play off of the oft-used "we fed off the crowd" phrase and it's decent. It's all about leaving on the high note.
  6. the boo birds are out for ARod's K. I am telling you, the right playoff scenario could easily lead to a trade.
  7. Moreso than parity, I think it's turnover. I hate seeing the same teams over and over in the playoffs. It's dull. The NFL usually has some 12/13 win teams, and some 2/3/4 win teams. Yes, there are a good about of 7/8/9 win teams, but it's not hard to draw a distinction between the great and the crappy. People try and say there are no great teams anymore, but that's bogus, there just aren't teams that can stockpile all the talent on their team for years at a time and remain great forever.
  8. Yes Joe, it's the confidence they get from those world series won 40/50 years ago that makes all the difference, not the fact that they have an all-star lineup and several very expensive pitchers.
  9. This is going to be one of those great hitting will beat great pitching while mediocre hitting will get killed by decent pitching kind of series.
  10. What do you base that on? The part about the similar OPS, that is. Expecting a soon to be 37 year old centerfielder with massive injury concerns including head injuries to come back and improve upon his clearly declining numbers is a terrible way to go about offseason strategies.
  11. I'd bet heavily against that. Yeah, I'm not an idiot, I took that into account. There's lot of money available. Plenty to not have to settle on Moore at 3B and Edmonds as the key offensive addition.
  12. Jeter plays the game to win, he's trying to win (he just took a 900 OPS bat out of the first inning with a stupid bunt - that's not smart)
  13. That's a terrible idea. Neglecting the offense is exactly why this team has struggled so much. no, this team has struggled because of a lack of pitching. management's conventional view of offense has only added to the team's problems. a team can excel with a lack of offense, that much has been proven. it cannot excel with a lack of pitching. aram is a valuable part of the offense, no doubt, but if his departure means the pitching will be improved, i'm all for it. i'd give moore a chance. Well, the worst part is your obsession with Edmonds. It's possible to win without good hitting, it's very difficult though. And pretty stupid, and unnecessary for the Cubs. They have plenty of financial rooms to get pitching and hitting. I don't get why people are so hung up on the idea that they can only add very little this offseason. I've ran through the numbers several times and there is plenty of space for hitting and pitching.
  14. I believe he was quoting people "in the know" with their descriptions of the candidates, purposefully putting quotes around those oft-repeated phrases. Yes, they are largely meaningless, but I think we know what they all really mean..... nothing. Did anybody else "picture" Chris Farley "reading" that "article". http://www.patheticpersonals.com/images/brauer.jpg
  15. It looks clear to me and makes a lot of sense. I don't like lack of hustle, but if he produces, I can live with it. I'd hate for this offseason's theme to turn into "I decided I like guys who hustle."
  16. Leyland just got freaked out by the camera coming toward him.
  17. Yeah, the one thing we know is that Soriano is a bad 2nd baseman and Theriot is a good 2B. I think I'd much rather see if Soriano can move a little to his left and cover center after a full year of outfield play.
  18. That's a terrible idea. Neglecting the offense is exactly why this team has struggled so much.
  19. Thank God. And I could see Aramis walking if Joe Girardi is brought in. I hope going through the free agency process isn't just another way of saying "they are going to try and milk Hendry for as much as they can get." Going through the process does not guarantee they won't be Cubs, it just means they won't sign pre-free agency discounted contracts with the Cubs.
  20. I'm guessing he'd walk out on Bowa. Not sure about Girardi.
  21. That's a promise he should not keep. There's no reason why he'd need to to an extensive search. That's just a euphemism for "I have no idea what I'm doing."
  22. We're having our own letdown game. Jauron can suck the life out of an undefeated season. Nah, he's won his last game at Soldier Field. I don't mean that Jauron will win the game, just that his involvement in the game has sucked the life out of the place. He's like a vortex of dullness or something.
