  1. Mid-November would be pathetic. As I said in another thread, as a sitting GM who is looking to replace a lame duck manager whom he previously hired, and following several months of knowing he was likely going to need to replace the guy, and hopefully at least several weeks of knowing he was going to replace him, there is no justification to wait out October looking for that replacement. Hendry should have had a list by early August, at the latest. When he was "reviewing" everything, he should have included contingencies for if he made a move. That would entail a list, and that list would include his assessment on the likelihood/possibility of getting a guy. This hiring process, like almost everything else Hendry has done, is flawed from the beginning.
  2. Well, WGN contacted Joe, maybe the Trib guys just got confused, after all the turnover, about who exactly is representing the Cubs now.
  3. I'm looking forward to a season in which I don't know anybody who's injured.
  4. Due to who you believe is likely to get the job, or just an assumption based on Baker's boys being the most difficult you've been around and therefore the next batch can only be better? Are you assuming McDonough will try and influence the choice in that direction, given his background?
  5. Are you related to Thomas Juedes?
  6. Are we talking top 5 management or top 5 board of directors?
  7. That is not true at all the Cubs and WGN are under contract meaning they would go together, it would have to be part of the package deal if they are sold. This you can look up and find out. The contract between WGN and the Cubs means they have to be sold as part of a package deal? I doubt that. The TV rights and the Cubs would go together and since WGN and the Cubs are still under contract that would mean they would go together. The trib. wouldn't hold onto the TV rights of a team they don't have a controlling interest in, that makes no business sense. So, if a banana company that has a contract to sell its bananas through Wal-Mart is sold, then the new buyer now owns Wal-Mart? If the rights go through future years, the contract will remain valid.
  8. Was it a publicly traded company? There's a big difference between divulging behind the scenes info about your privately held business and that of a publicy traded corporation like Tribune.

  10. Berman announces games like they are HR hitting contests.
  11. What are you wearing? Mr. Foley, leave me alone.
  12. No, you can't assure us of that. That's the nature of anonymous internet postings. But I'm a 15 year old girl with big boobs looking to experiment.
  13. Insider trading scandal
  14. That is about the best reason I've heard yet. Especially if Hendry is fired at the end of the 2007 season or if the Cubs are sold. It's pretty cool that we're thinking about how easy it will be to fire the next guy when discussing who should be hired.
  15. It depends on who he's supposed to be collaborating with. If he's fighting a lot of Jim Hendry decisions then maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing. True.
  16. HP's CEO should put a wiretap on your friend's dad's phone.
  17. They also think (rightly or wrongly) that Girardi blew out one of their young arms after asking the starter to come back and pitch after a rain delay. Joe also once said, as a catcher for the Cubs, that he noticed something was off in a pitcher's delivery, but didn't say anything at the time. And that pitcher went on the DL soon after. I think it was Lieber, though not sure.
  18. What do you like about Francona? Francona was on the Discovery Channel's show about the science of baseball (i.e., sabermetrics) and talked glowingly about the *new* types of analytical analysis. I don't know if affects his management though. That he had Youkilis as his leadoff hitter most of the season would make me believe it does affect his management. They actually had Brian Roberts most of the season. Youkilis had 391 AB and Roberts had 560 AB in the leadoff spot. Both had very respectable OBP. although... 951 leadoff at bats? Coco Crisp was #2 at leadoff for Boston with 236. Roberts left Boston a while ago.
  19. Boston's front office works in mysterious ways.
  20. If Boston granted permission, it would be because they would have no problem with him leaving. If they don't have a problem with him leaving, then maybe he wouldn't have a problem leaving.
  21. Unless the prospective new buyer gave them the go ahead.
  22. Pretty sure, though I don't have it offhand. I would say he might have given up a few more inherited runners, but he also was saved by others preventing his runners from scoring. You come in and strike out 1, walk 1, and then give way to somebody else who gets 2 outs, and it looks like you did a great job. But you allowed half the runners you faced to reach base.
  23. They aren't going to put a big sign out front saying for sale. For all we know, they've already had discussions. I wouldn't be surprised at all.
  24. What do you like about Francona? Mainly the fact that Francona seems to thoroughly get the importance of OBP. Well regardless, as far as I know he's still the manager of the Red Sox, so why are we talking about him being the manager of the Cubs? Because of newspaper reports that the Cubs asked for, or will ask for, permission to speak with him. If that OBP nugget is true, I'd settle for laissez-faire clubhouse rules.
  25. What is your opinion on the Mark Cuban issue? I'd make exactly the same comment about Cuban - if in fact he does interfere with a game by blasting the refs. The Mavs coach should be able to tell him to cool it. I'm not a big basketball fan but from what I can tell his court-side tirades are tolerated pretty well by the league. The record level of fines indicates otherwise.
