  1. You know the media will jump on anything to try to make a story out of nothing. Especially when its a 7-0 team against a 1-6 team. But it isn't the worst Dolphins team since before '85. The front 7 is very good and the WRs and RBs are pretty talented as well. The secondary and O-line are pretty horrible and the QB play has been inconsistent. There were, however, some much worse teams in the Wandstedt era. Yeah, I know they have some talent. Just venting a little. Boo to you backing down raw. This Dolphins team sucks, big time. They've got very little talent, and the QB's have been consistently awful. Culpepper is terrible, and Harrington is Harrington, good for 3-4 back breaking plays a game. The Wanny years in Miami produced win totals of 11, 11, 9, 10 and 4. There were not "some much worse teams in the Wannstedty era", as was claimed. This team will be lucky to surpass that 4 win mark. These guys are on TV every week in my place, and the 2 Dolphin fans entertain everybody with their non stop complaining.
  2. This is just my feeling but I think it was a combination of him being upset that Dusty left and Lou saying to Hendry " are you freaking kidding me - that is not going to be my lead off man!" Hendry has talked about Piniella having a "different idea" about bench guys, which I took as him not wanting to the uber-versatile no bat types, rather preferring guys who can actually produce a little. That might cost a little more than Hendry envisioned for the bench, which could rethink the amount of value he places on roles like "leadoff hitter" and other positions.
  3. So it's not bringing the camera that's the issue, it's showing up in the first place? Have you ever been to one? I think it's a lot of fun. Just fans talking baseball... No, I haven't. Just remarking on the comparison to the Star Trek convention. Have you been to one of those? no
  4. Protection isn't usually ever a factor. As far as having a metric to measure it's effect? My memory is that metrics tend to show that it doesn't matter how you construct a lineup in terms of the batting order and its productivity. Could be wrong, though. I've heard that, but that might be one metric I'd take issue with. Surely it's better to have high OBP guys 1-2 than it is to have them 6-7. I think it's more of a case of protection not making a difference for a player's individual production (AVG/OBP/SLG). Who bats in front of you will most defintiely affect your RBI, while who bats behind will affect your R.
  5. It could be a little better than lateral, but then it depends on what else they do. If you feel you have 6 guys who can start, but not enough OF production, it's not a bad thing to deal a pitcher for that OF production. I'm not much of a Sheffield fan though.
  6. Buerhle's 2006 vs 2005 was the biggest problem. None of those other guys were particularly special pitchers, so their more or less average seasons were not surprising. Trading Garcia isn't going to kill the Sox. Mediocre pitching is likely to be very overrated this offseason, if a GM can find value in dealing away an expensive mediocre pitcher, he'd be wise to make such a move.
  7. I doubt it'll happen shortly. Depends on your interpretation of, "shortly". . Well, when I think of baseball transactions taking place shortly, I'm thinking within a week, or two at the most.

  9. Murton isn't major league ready? Willis is not one of the best pitchers in the major leagues.
  10. I thought the downfall to the White Sox this past yr, was pitching, and NOT hitting? Why continue to build a Texas Rangers esque offensive lineup, and limit your pitching option? You know the "outslug the opposition" theory does not work. Heck, even the Sox prove that theory. This deal makes no sense for the Sox (and yes, I know the Sox are trying to free up a spot for Brandon McCarthy). I wouldn't be surprise to see this deal take place, tho. Garcia isn't very good, but he's paid like somebody who is (and is going into a free agency year). Their problem wasn't a lack of Freddy Garcias. Their problem was that Buerhle went from very good, to bad, in one season.

  12. He transferred from Arizona to a community college, so he could have easily gotten away without making the grade.
  13. I don't share this opinion. Other teams might have more to offer, but that doesn't mean they will be willing to offer it. The best prospects usually never even enter the discussion for trades. Somebody mentioned Pie and Murton, and that's a huge haul for any team. An already above average major league hitter looking to improve, and a high ceiling very young talent is more than most teams would offer for most players.
  14. ARod does not want to look like he's giving up in NY, and the Yankees don't want to look like they are willing to give him away.
  15. I have a wager with a Dolphins fan, winner gets a new replica jersey. He was very confident this summer and offered the bet. He bought it last week.
  16. My guess is this would make them less interested in trading Heilman.
  17. Because they can't afford to employ good baseball players?
  18. Ignorant fan on the Score: "I'd sign anybody to a $15 million contract other than Ramirez." This lazy thing is taking on a life of its own. People are really stupid.
  19. Can you remind me where the #1 priority talk is coming from? I don't remember it, other than talking about the manager. Was it said once? Or is it being restated over and over?
  20. Maybe they plan on resigning him, and then promoting it as a big offseason move. Get fans to start think of Ramirez as gone, then, when he signs, it's like signing a free agent. Remove the tin foil hat. The black helocopters aren't coming for you...yet. So it's a conspiracy theory to think the Cubs might botch the offseason and promote resigning their own guys as big moves?
  21. A hug is harrassment if the huggee has no interest in being hugged. I know a couple dirty old men who use the hug as a cheap and obvious way of squeezing up against some boobs. Being a nice guy on camera doesn't mean anything.
  22. Maybe they plan on resigning him, and then promoting it as a big offseason move. Get fans to start think of Ramirez as gone, then, when he signs, it's like signing a free agent.
  23. Let's hope he's more of an athlete and less of a doctor than Craig Krenzel.
