  1. Hendry isn't all bad, he spent money on Lee and Aram...those weren't bad money decisions. nor was Erye and Howry...
  2. You don't think they'll lose 100 games? they only have 48 to go... Please don't say they will finish at .500, man...there's no way.
  3. You guys might disagree with the "heart" comment, but the Tigers are doing a lot with a manager that demands guts and heart. The talent on that Tigers team didn't come through until they had Leyland. Bad pitching, bad baserunning, bad hitting, all to an extent have something to do with the coaching...and not just the physical talent the players have.
  4. Sniff the air...that smell is Dusty's corpse. He will be gone soon. Hendry needs more credit here I think. Give the guy a chance to overhaul things. Changes are coming.
  5. I want whatever Scott is smoking. This team will lose 100 games, and might break the team record for most losses....we only need 52 more to do that. Give it up man, give it up!
  6. I don't know that preaching aggressive hitting (aka Dusty B.) is necessarily a bad thing, but when you have hitters that can't pick good pitches, therein lies the rub. Many hitters we have, the good ones anyway, are very good hitters. I tend to agree that it's lack of heart and lack of good coaching that has been this team's downfall, rather than lack of baserunners. And the fact that we've had like 834 starting pitchers this year. And the losing is additive...makes everything worse. Kinda like being diabetic makes all illnesses tougher to treat, losing makes everything harder and magnifies everything more. So in summary: Losing Bad coaching Bad starting pitching (mostly) and NOT aggressive hitting, are the problems...maybe not...who knows.
  7. I agree it was pure sillyness leaving him out there. Dusty is packing his bags...I just know it.
  8. We have a lot of great talent on this team and with the right coaching and the signing of bonafide major league veteran talent, they will have a chance to win: Zito, Carlos Lee...real players!
  9. If we could get CLee for say around 10 million per, then I'll say he's a big help in Left. Ditto the thoughts on Miller...bye bye Cedeno is not the answer. Though he should get the chance to say we are all wrong. Leave JJ right where he's at, he's playing very well, and I think he will continue to get better since he's away from the dome. Starting pitching, left field, second base, that should be where they head into the offseason. Zito and CLEE would be a good start. Look at the Red Sox...they lose Damon and don't lose a step. They get these veteran pitchers and continue to bolster their offense...we should follow their lead...and the White Sox lead in how we evaluate what it takes to win. Great topic...
  10. Dusty will get fired. Soon...but it won't really help much. At least we can start anew, huh?
  11. My serious question here will hopefully lead to some interesting discussion of the Cubs woes. I look at the stats on MLB.com and split them six ways from sunday and I wonder, seriously, why the Cubs are last in runs scored, near last in BA with RISP, and last in OBP. We have some quality hitters on this team: Lee, Aram, Walker, Jones (yes, he's a good hitter), and lately Pierre...and of course Murton when he's in there. Why are they last with BA and runner on third. Why are they last in almost all these categories? Does Dusty really have influence over these grown men who are professional hitters? Is it just "Cubs" luck? Is it bad coaching? In other years the Cubs have been able to hit the ball, but can't pitch it. Getting to the crux of why they hit the ball but can't hit it when it counts is critical to their success. Just wanting some thoughts, thought it would be fun to discuss. My theory is that they balance good hitters with bad and then do worse and press too hard when they are losing like they are. So they aren't as bad as they look.
  12. I don't think they will fire anybody during the season. Nobody will get fired...that's my prediction...at least not anybody higher ranking than the head groundskeeper/bullpen coach, etc. What is the Cubs record for losses in a season? Anybody know?
  13. This amazes me, a guy does poorly (on a really poor team) and we're ready to throw him to the dogs. You guys on here that criticize everything think that every time someone fails he should be DFA'd or traded or gotten rid of. Dempster has done well up to this point in time. He doesn't get enough work to be a good closer because the team sucks. So many things suck about this team...as we all know. Dempster is fine...he just needs to pitch more often with the game on the line. A guy doesn't save 20 something games in a row and be so bad. Lay off him and concentrate on the real things wrong with this team. Geez!
  14. Do we really need to do that? The team stinks without any help
  15. Dempster is just allergic to Dusty, like the rest of these jokers they call baseball players.
  16. Dempster wouldn't be that bad if he had the chance to pitch more than once a week. How often do they have the lead in the ninth inning anyway?
  17. Umm, I think we need a manager that throws a base once in a while. Dusty's lame answer for not arguing the close play at home yesterday was just that...lame. Managers fire up their teams by arguing plays, even if they can't see them. Bring on Uncle Lou...
  18. Dusty has a clone? Oh God...wait, he does have a clone...it's Jim Hendry. What the hell was I thinking?
  19. I find it funny watching these guys complain, and complain some more. Getting swept and beaten so badly just proves that losing is a disease, and it affects great players like DLee and Prior, too... Cancer isn't as powerful as losing is...talk about infectious...
  20. I feel sad for those on here that can't wait for the off season. What, do you guys expect that anything will REALLY change with this team? Come on! The cubs would have to offer Barry Zito something like 60 million a year to come play in this funeral home for the Cubs they call Wrigley. Do you really think that "next year" will be the "year"? Hendry will still be in charge...maybe Dusty will be gone, but the mostly train wreck team will still be here. What this team needs it isn't going to get. And that's sad, because I've been a Cubs fan all my life and I see the White Sox doing everything right. As for Murton, he's a kid that might deserve a chance, but he hasn't exactly earned himself the right to stay in Left Field. Maybe Dusty has screwed him up, and maybe not, he's still a grown man that should be smart enough to coach himself if he thinks that Dusty has messed with his mind too much. But nothing will ever change with the Cubs. You have to understand that, and be content with it, because you are otherwise doomed to a life filled with frustration. Think the Trib will boost payroll the way THAT company is doing? No way...just live with the ineptness...and enjoy it, because bitching about it will only frustrate you more.
  21. Geez guys. It's a game. The cubs suck...get over it...and realize that this will happen many more times in your lives (trust me, I've been through many bad seasons), so cheer up, and enjoy watching them lose.
  22. Dusty will get axed. Just give it some time. It'll happen...
  23. these guys are a corpse, not even D Lee can help these guys. Where's Hendry on this board? He ought to defend himself...D Lee shouldn't have to come out and say this stuff. Wow
  24. Picking the worst cubs team in history is like asking me what my favorite movie is, there's just too many to choose from. You guys remember the late 80's? There was talent on those teams too, Sandberg...Hawk...Lee Smith... Then there was the late 70's with Buckner, Sutter, Kingman... Come on, this is a really really really bad team, but to pick it as the worst is maybe true...but not clearly so. And no curses please...the team sucks for many reasons...we don't need a goat to make us look bad.
  25. don't waste the paper. Nothing's going to change. They'll just hire another hack that doesn't know how to manage.
