  1. Looks to be a done deal: http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=267483&lid=sublink01&lpos=headlines_main
  2. Let's hope the Hawk forwards aren't looking at it that way. Have you seen who is taking Sharp's place in the lineup? Just Adams? I took a quick look around but couldn't see where anyone was being called up.
  3. Yeah, I'm the same way. Though I did watch some of Woody's 20K game a few weeks ago. I think it's because I'm so wrapped up in hockey season, coupled with the playoff debacle, but I'm still not ready to deal with the Cubs again.
  4. Richards appears to have broken his wrist in Dallas' game against Columbus tonight. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=267440&lid=sublink01&lpos=headlines_main Little karma for Ott's antics the other night with Sharp? Also, another nice home win for the Blues tonight against NYR. These guys are sticking around, and must really be kicking themselves for those bad losses last week against Vancouver and Nashville. With those four points they would be right in the middle of that scrum in the west.
  5. Thanks for posting. 28 games left. .500 would put them at 98 points. That should lock down the 4th seed, barring a ridiculous run by any of the seven teams within 5 points of each other between 5th and 11th. 17 home games, 11 on the road. Only one game (Dallas on Saturday) west of Chicago. Tough road games at Boston and Montreal. Otherwise a whole lot of home cooking. I think something like 16-10-2 is likely. That would be fine. I'm still cautiously optimistic, but man I can't wait for some playoff hockey. I remember how excited I was in 2001-02, only to have that colossal offensive failure against the Blues.
  6. Could have been a lot worse. At worst, he's back with a handful of games to get back into game shape before the playoffs start.
  7. If he goes on IR, does that clear cap space? Not to get ahead of ourselves, but this would no doubt put pressure on Dale to add a front line guy.
  8. Wow. I thought we had a lot of OTLs. WTG Tampa. What else can be said about last night, except the Hawks from Friday night took over the bodies of the Stars from last night. Great home win and it shows a lot to bounce back from such a crappy effort the night before. The 5-10 spots are so close, they just need to stay clear of that scrum.
  9. I'm not going to go into the ludicrous comparison of your playing experience and his, but suffice it to say it's hilariously irrelevant. I was no where near at even 25% the level he is. But getting hit into the boards by a 250 lb person hurts... you don't lay on the ice and play dead. The hit wasn't that hard. I agree. He obviously wasn't that hurt. He seemed to be just trying to draw a penalty.
  10. This color guy is a complete goof (Lavin, I think), but he just likened Martin to Tony Montana.
  11. The Blues play really hard, they are just overmatched on most nights due to injuries. And the Hawks grossly overmatch them. So yeah, it is embarassing. The Blues have gotten 9 out of 10 possible points against the Hawks this year. It's just a matter of the Hawks not working as hard as the Blues. Perhaps they don't adequately respect them because of their place in the standings. I don't know. But it shouldn't happen.
  12. I decided to wait until this morning to post my thoughts on this one. It didn't help. Eager/Janssen: I reckon they picked up on TV the ref jumping in and telling before the faceoff not to go. Given that Eager obviously wasn't interesting, Janssen should have gotten a penalty for instigating. After that shift and even when the next period started, Eager was yelling at someone on the Blues bench. I didn't see any Blues player yelling back at him. I think it was one of their coaches. Whatever it was, it was pretty heated. Honestly, the way the Hawks were playing, Eager probably should've thrown down. The team needed a spark, and he needed to take the risk that Janssen would kick his ass. Again. His later fight against Winchester (I think) was a solid effort. For that matter, Walker made a good showing in his fight :30 into the game. The guy sitting next to me said he was surprised Crombeen went with him. I see why. Kane: Cyno, I went back and read your comments during the game, and I totally agree. The guy was pretty gutless last night. I know it's not his game to take the body, but on at least three occasions I saw him approach a Blues player on the boards. Rather than hit him, he skates by and jabs at the puck with his stick, trying to move it forward. It didn't work each time, and the Blues were able to keep the puck in the zone. He also didn't seem to carry the puck with any conviction, being taken right off several times. Refs: Oh dear. First of all, at the end of the 2nd, which led to the 4-on-3 that the Blues scored on (I think), the Hawks player put a clean hit on someone. I can't remember who they were. Then Backes came in and mugged him badly. Obviously the Hawks had to retaliate. And Backes didn't even get a freaking penalty! There wouldn't have been any funny stuff if not for him, and we're the ones who ended up shorthanded. Unbelievable. The rest of the night, the refs called the game a bit too tight for a low-scoring game. Overall, the guys just looked slow. Old Man Ladd looked particularly slow. Havlat didn't have any jump, and even Keith looked shaky. Aaron Johnson looked like he didn't belong on the ice. I shudder to think what the guys are going to have left in the tank tonight. I know we've talked about the ridiculous road trip before, but how about the swift kick in the balls of having to play a back-to-back to finish it up. Hopefully they will feed off the home crowd tonight. Speaking of crowds, there were far fewer Hawks fans there last night than the last game here. But that one was a Saturday night. And we didn't really have anything to cheer about. The people around me were cool and surprisingly I didn't get any crap from anyone when we were leaving. I was prepared to say something about enjoying watching us in the playoffs. Let's go get 'em tonight.
  13. Holy [expletive]! Run everybody! EDIT: Hey, it doesn't say "Veterans Commitee" anymore. Can we change it to "Huet"?
  14. Oh man I was at that one. The Cub fans, and there were many that day, were going wild.
  15. That thought actually occurred to me this morning. I was going to say something similar but didn't want to fan the flames. But to answer your question, I think it's no-holds-barred in here.
  16. I wouldn't mind him as a #2 option. But that would imply that we had a #1 option.
  17. Sorry if someone else posted this and I missed it, but Torry Holt, anyone? http://msn.foxsports.com/rumors/nfl
  18. Yeah, figures the first home game in forever would fall on Valentine's Day. Wife is not a terribly sentimental type, but I don't think she'll enjoy sitting there watching me yell at the TV all night.
  19. I still can't believe that shot. He doesn't even swing that hard. That was a perfect sweet spot of the bat hit. He could not have gotten anymore of the sweet spot right there. It was perfection. That's one of those "I remember where I was" moments. I was stuffing envelopes in a campaign office when I was in college and we had the game on. I was in mid-conversation with another guy with one eye on the TV, and just interrupted him with an "OMFG! Look at that!"
  20. Alright, the Blues are ripe for a beating tonight. They lost the lead with three seconds to go last night and eventually lost in the shootout. Mason played Thursday and last night. I think to play him again tonight would be a sign of desperation from Murray, and I don't that's in his character. So, I'll probably be shown wrong now, but I think it will be Holt in goal tonight. EDIT: The Post-Dispatch is saying Mason is "expected" to start tonight. This is a gut check game for them. If things go south early, Janssen will be looking to scrap with everyone.
  21. I think we fundamentally agree, and I can just see Cyno banging his head against his desk rigth now and throwing his monitor against the wall. So I'm going to let this one go. Until Huet's next start.
  22. I don't think it's tired, because it comes up every time Huet plays poorly and Khabi plays well. Which happens all the time! Then why are their numbers so very similar? Didn't you just say this? lolololololool Haha. My evil twin signs in as me sometimes. Confuses me to no end. My point is that I know I don't give the guy enough credit for being a decent goaltender, but when you watch him this season, he just clearly isn't as sharp as Khabi. So if you have a choice between them, Khabi should start. Obviously, if it's Huet or a guy up from Rockford, you play Huet.
  23. I don't think it's tired, because it comes up every time Huet plays poorly and Khabi plays well. Which happens all the time! Dude is hellbent on arguing I'm irrational about this. Clearly I'm not.
  24. I would rather see them play Niemi here tomorrow night My point exactly I would rather see them play Niemi here tomorrow night because he is more likely to be able to handle the Blues and if Huet is going to play one of the two nights it should be against the better team on Saturday night. Nice try though.
  25. I would rather see them play Niemi here tomorrow night, though I know that won't happen.
