  1. Good point. By the way, the lady who wrote the article for SI personally talked to Arod before the article came out to get his side. He denied everything. She gave him two days to come out. He didn't, so she did. He didn't deny to her, he told her to go to the union about it. He gave a non-response. Right, which she no doubt did. You don't run a story like that unless you give everyone at least the opportunity to comment. I noticed how every discussion of the story noted that it was confirmed by "four independent sources." The reporter did everything kosher. I don't think she saw the list, but I think those sources definitely gave her other names. Perhaps those weren't confirmed by all, or maybe SI is letting the A-Rod story sit out there for awhile before dropping the other names. Selling more copies of more editions and getting more prolonged web hits. I don't even know what to do with A-Rod. The guy admitted it. I don't see how he can legitimately pass Aaron now. I'm not even going to dignify Bonds' "accomplishment." He cheated and her admitted it. Admitting it doesn't make it okay.
  2. A-Rod point blank lied to Katie Couric in 2007 about having ever used steroids. He admits that. So I don't believe him at all that he hasn't used them since he went to the Yankees.
  3. That MTL-CAL game interests me. I'll try to fit some of it in between 24 and the KU-MU game.
  4. Wow. Thanks for posting. I haven't been following Beach's season, but I wonder if that was more a reputation thing. If another player had done what he did (slowing done, hot-dogging the EN goal), perhaps that may not have happened. But either way, I agree with the announcer that it was handled horribly by the ref. That one fella turtled while that MH player beat the living hell out of him. I don't blame his teammates for jumping the bench in that situation. If the guy didn't do anything to incite it, and he's not fighting back, you can't just keep whaling on him.
  5. This is great. Henry Rodriguez, Brant Brown, Jeff Blauser, empty seats. One thing I've noticed watching this already is that Chippy keeps saying "we" when he refers to the Cubs. I don't remember that about him, but then, I didn't pay as much attention to the announcers as I do now. And besides, it was his first year with the team. It's not like he'd been part of the "we" for 20 years. EDIT: LMAO, Kevin Orie.
  6. Nice find. Thanks for the heads-up.
  7. Again, how did Huet look bad? He had no chance whatsoever at any of those 3 gols he gave up. He did have a chance... but he had no one in front of him... it wasn't ALL Huet's fault, but he definitely didn't help matters. I really don't see how he had any chance at any of those 3 goals How about the one where he took about ten seconds to go from post to post and was late diving over. He's awful with his angles, he handles the puck poorly. In short, he sucks.
  8. Dempster was still with the Marlins in 2001. He joined the Cubs in 2004. I just copied and printed what Yahoo was showing. Soriano wasn't with the Cubs and there was no National team then either so there must be some goof up in their database. Yeah, what happens is Yahoo leaves up the rosters, but their database shows their current team. I've noticed that when looking back at my old teams.
  9. I gave up on this one after the 1st. Thanks hangover from Friday. So I can't say if Khabi looked as bad as Huet did. I have to imagine that the guys know they have to turn it up a notch when he is playing. And that cranks up the pressure on them, especially the defenseman. Walker looked bad in the 1st last night. But he's been overachieving all year. It's alright though. Put this one behind them, and now they play two doormats (albeit one is St. Louis, who look like superstars when they play the Hawks this year) to finish out the trip.
  10. I need to remember to keep doing this. Which I didn't really need to tell you guys, except that this is my 3999th post and I needed to post something so I could go dredge up the milestone thread.
  11. Wow, it would be nice if they added that feature to baseball this year. Shouldn't they be opening up baseball for registration soon? I seem to recall it always being the first week of February. If I don't have the league set up within hours of Yahoo making it available, I'll be flooded with e-mails. Needy bastards.
  12. Blues waived Legace today: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/blues/story/57D5F437804A667B86257555005B5616?OpenDocument He's been awful this year, and Mason has improved a lot lately. But he was a fan favorite. It's too bad the Blues haven't been able to get it together this year. Injuries, lack of depth in Peoria, and probably a bit of Andy Murray wearing out his welcome have brought this team to where it is. They are drawing very well, averaging well over 18,000 the last time I checked (sellout is 19,150), but I have a feeling Checketts and Davidson are getting to the end of the fans' patience. Also, in an interesting story the Hawks don't have to worry about (anymore), season-ticket holders have really begun to grouse about all the cheap tickets being sold right now. I posted about a month ago about that ticket deal where I got 2 tickets to four remaining games of my choosing for less than $9/ticket. There is a lot of noise that the STH base is going to erode and people are just going to go ala carte if that's the way it's going to be.
  13. The good thing, in terms of the schedule, is that the Hawks are presently 9 points clear of Anaheim for the 4th seed with FIVE games in hand. Now, granted, they are only 11 points clear of Minnesota and Minnesota (er, Dallas), all with 50 GP. So, the way I look at it, finish this trip strong and then romp through all the home games in March. Not bad for a home stretch.
  14. I used to watch games and pick out three or four players that I was going to be pissed at for this or that. A lot of times that was Havlat. But even he mixed it up last night and went crashing into the corners. Respect. Otherwise, I don't have a lot to complain about from that one. Just a solid road game. Campbell looked pretty shaky in the defensive zone. The 4th line was obviously outstanding. Looking forward to making it a late night tomorrow, but I'm afraid this will be one of those non-HD Canadian telecasts on Center Ice. I'd take it though if Hughson is calling the game.
  15. Oh dear. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=407722 Will this be Blues Brother 2000 or Godfather 2? I fear the former.
  16. I've fizzled out pretty badly after a hot start. I've never been very good at these types of things.
  17. From what I've gathered reading between the lines from what the players have been saying, Campbell is the defacto captain of the team and Kane is an cocky little annoying kid, they didn't say it in so many words, but thats what the dynamic is. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that is the case. You don't get respect from anyone, especially teammates, by punking out and carving guys up when they check you. I don't mean to be overly harsh on the guy. I'm glad we have him. But he continually gets muscled right off the puck. He is going to have to evolve into a stronger, tougher player if he's going to continue to improve.
  18. I'm gonna miss the game tomorrow night on account of business travel. Well, actually I should be home in time to catch the 3rd. Calgary is strong. Will be a good test.
  19. Outstanding. They are starting to crank it back up again. 7 points behind Detroit again, right?
  20. They are right in the middle of the playoff race. They are just such a roller coaster of a team. Lose 10-1 one night, win 2-1 the next. But we've definitely got their number this year.
  21. Nevermind about the refs letting them play. That was a piece of [expletive] call.
  22. This has been a really entertaining game. Great (sometimes borderline dirty) hitting, but the refs are letting the guys play. Good thing Cyno didn't see that high elbow put on Versteeg a minute ago.
  23. If not for Roloson this could be another 9-goal effort for the Hawks. Wow. Excellent pressure. I love hearing the groaning out of these Canadian crowds when the Hawks dominate in the offensive zone for shifts at a time.
  24. We keep 4 out of a roster of 21. You can keep a guy for a limit of three seasons. We set a February 1 deadline for naming keepers. I just got the last guy's list today. Not too shabby. :D There are other rules, in terms of trading keepers for draft picks between now and the draft. It is allowed, but they must be even trades. In other words, no compensatory draft picks would be given. I'm trying to remember the other rules pertinent to the keeper system. I know we wrote up a ton of them, but few if any ever come into play. It's a solid group that has been playing for years, so we don't really have any issues come up.
  25. Wow, nothing doing in the Hawks thread so far tonight. It's already the 2nd period! This has the makings of one of those aggravating games where the bounces just don't quite go our way.
