As a matter of fact I still do visit this website. It was just a matter of time till this move was made and hopefully better things lay ahead for Sean. I will say that I've never agreed that Sean was a relief pitcher and hopefully within the next ten days another team will feel the same. Sean needs consistent innings from a team thats going to give him the ball every 5th day. I will pass along the kind words and thanks.

Let me see if I can answer your question, while in the minors the players gets paid the MILB salary. Upon call-up and being added to the 40 man roster players makes MLB minimum(as in the transactions it usually states players contract purchased by team). When sent back to the minors player gets a percentage of the MLB salary but considerably less. Each year player is on 40 man but not eligible for arbitration during Spring training team will meet with these players and negotiate a salary that usually gets a bump up every year. This would also pertain to their MLB Salary. Hopes this helps but yes once being added to the 40 man is a hefty pay raise.

I think we've gotten the better of Billy Beane trades in the past. This is probably the first time he got the better of us as far as I can recall. Whether Beane got the best of the Cubs is still open to question at this point. Gallagher has gone from No. 2 starter to out of the rotation for Oakland, as his velocity dropped as spring training went on. Eric Patterson is in the minor leagues, as is Murton, with Colorado. If Harden stays healthy and makes 25 starts and most of them are of the quality variety, then I think the Cubs get the better of this deal. But it's too early to judge now. Don't know where your getting your facts but nothing wrong with Gallaghers velocity as of the other night. Would expect him to be back in the rotation shortly.

Been lucky enough to have been born and raised in Boston and to Fenway many a time. Luckily last year I was able to get in for free ;) when the A's played up there but what it an experience it is. It all starts hours before game time in the local "local watering holes" around fenway. If you get there early enough they actually have a new bar inside the CF wall and you can watch BP before the gates open. They actually close down Yawkey way before the game and its all concessions but the best is what they have done the last few years to upgrade the park. They have roof concourses on Left/Right fields with barstools to sit and watch along with other nice spots. As for tickets the Sox implemented a policy that season ticket holders cannot sell tixs to an outside agency. I think it was gate D which does the gameday tixs and you have to get there early but if a season tix holder decides they aren't using the tixs for that night their tix is sold at face value that night. They also escort you into the park after buying your tix so you don't try to scalp it. Also the sox have made the seats wider between both dugouts as yes they were narrow and hope to complete the whole park with the new seats next year. perhaps with the bad economy people have decided to cut obscenely-overpriced athletic wear out of their lives. Under Armour first came out they pretty much had the "market" to themselves with that line of clothing. Now "Nike" is pretty much worn through-out the clubhouses. As previously stated by somebody else, I to had some under armour shirts and they were terrible after a few washes.

i think i'd take it over boston's also Don't look now but my beloved "Red Sox" are making a move in the Peavy sweeps!!!!! :yahoo:

I don't understand why everybody is so happy about moving Fukudome to CF?? To me the issue is more what he's doing up at bat and swinging like a girl!!!! Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't JH saying that all the LH power issues were solved with this signing. If I'm JH I pray that the Padres take him but sad part is the Cubbies will probably have to pick-up most of his salary. Fukudome is currently in Lou's doghouse and thats not a good thing.

Cubs don't have enough in their farm system to get this trade done. Face it folks that management has made some bad decisions in deals that they have signed. Nobody is going to be willing to take on Soriano's contract let alone all the stipulations that go with him, ex has to bat leadoff. Now you have Fukudome and its not a good thing when you get in Lou's doghouse but again folks management had to have this guy and now your stuck with him. There are deals that the Cubs could make but it would pretty much over haul their current roster.

So happy for Pat and his family as I didn't see him getting much of a shot with the Cubs.........

Heres the details as we know, during the Oakland/Texas game in the 4th inning Sean was in the middle of his windup when time was suddenly given to the hitter. Sean halted his motion and held onto the ball, not a good idea as a pitchers windup is one of the most violent actions and not natural. I was watching this game and knew that this wasn't good and asked Sean about it and he stated he was okay. Sean is a "warrior" when it comes to pitching and I swear his arm would have to be falling off to miss a start. I was a bit concerned over his past three starts as the walks started to add up and his control was off. It wasn't until I watched the Toronto game this past week that I suspected he was hurt. When he was taken out he informed the coaching staff that his shoulder was bothering him and tuesday morning he was on a plane back to Oakland. I just spoke with him after the results of his MRI and shows "no damage to the rotator cuff or the labrum". Great news but what did happen is that Sean pulled a muscle and hasn't given it the proper time to heal. I can't say anything about a trip to the DL as Sean is eager to get back and understands he will most likely miss a start. He will undergo Physical therapy and it will be up to Sean as to when he gets back out on the field. Of course me being the cautious parent and knowing Sean have told him to take the proper amount of time to heal this muscle and not do anything stupid!!!! In short this means Sean will try to be back on the field in the shortest amount of time but hoping coaching staff convinces him otherwise.. :yahoo:

This is gonna be interesting to see how the call-ups go with the Cubs in a playoff race. I can say that the "clubhouse" is tiny and don't see them adding very many. I would say the more interesting question is who is going to be dropped from the 40 man after this season as the cubs have decisions to be made. I would have to say that for call-ups in Sep I only see Guzman(if he's throwing like I have heard reports about), would have to say that Rich Hill will also be up and that Hoff would be the only position player added(Lou's got a man crush on him). Pie is interesting as there were reasons why he was sent packing as quickly as he was and not sure if Lou is willing to give him a second chance. Cubs are in a win it all now and Lou's not going to want the youngsters hanging around....

Have to say that fans have already put a statue out in front of Wrigley with the stuff being said. I have to say that Kevin Hart looked really good last year and people were going to name babies after him. He did look good against the Marlins but is that a team you want to compare him to. The Marlins have no plate discipline and are free swingers and swung at some bad pitches. Lets wait a few games when he goes against a few veteran teams and they are laying off those pitches. Then you throw him in the middle of a playoff race with a team trying to win now and also lets see how he bounces back after his first rough outing. I'm not saying that he's not going to be a good pitcher but realistically how bout we wait till he's thrown a few more innings.....

Lets see the Cubbies are going to try this again and bring a starting pitcher up and throw him in the relief role. Look folks he will become a "two pitch" pitcher as in the bullpen he will throw a FB/SL combination. Does success in AAA automatically mean you will do well in the Majors? Hell no, as while Shark throws hard he throws a flat FB. I've said this before that pitchers have better success with a mid 90's FB with late movement than someone that throws High 90's with a straight FB. Then you throw him in the middle of a playoff race with the Brew crew coming and I can't wait to watch this. I think Samardizja is primarily a 2 pitch pitcher anyway. He mixes in a couple other pitches, but it's mostly the fastball/splitter combo that he's used the last couple months. Those 2 pitches are a great combination for a relief pitcher. I would actually rather have Ceda. Samardzija could use the extra development. Ascanio and Wuertz haven't been lighting the world on fire. If Samardzija does come up though, it will be good experience for possible help in September from him. Samardzija still uses his change quite a bit, from all the quotes he's made. As I stated earlier but nobody wanted to listen was that watching the game He was throwing nothing but FB/SL as I stated. Never saw a CH and thats the way its going to continue and believe me I know!! His SL wasn't a strike and his FB was getting hit hard, they should've left him at AAA until call-ups.

Its amazing to read the posts that folks leave about games and you wonder if they listened to the game or just looked at the "boxscore". It was great to watch Sean pitch today in "Yankee Stadium" and I will admit that his control was off. To just give up 2 runs with all the runners left in scoring position I thought he did "Great". I can't imagine what Sean must have felt when Derek Jeter stepped into the batters box to begin the game. Then to face that line-up and K Arod twice was special moment and to K the side in the 2nd to get out of trouble, Jeter, Abreu and then Arod doesn't get any sweeter than that. I have to say that Seans stuff was nasty today and especially his offspeed pitches. Sean wasn't scheduled to pitch until monday in Tampa but with the Blanton trade and then Dusc getting sick their rotation was all a mess. It had to be tough getting yourself ready for a start monday and then being asked to throw Sat. Again it was a special moment watching your Son throw at Yankee stadium with all that history and thought Sean did "Great".ttyl

Bingo. He always was riding the strike zone, and he's been around enough now that teams know to lay off of him and force him to either throw the very hittable fastball or walk them. Just wanted to add about something I had heard from a visiting teams announcers. They had said that a scouting report was out on marmol and it was that he misses with his SL 90% of the time. Teams are laying off this pitch and he's having to rely more on his FB and he's leaving this pitch up in the zone. I'm going to say this again is that I always thought Marmol was throwing his SL way to much. Its a nasty pitch with lots of movement but if you watch closely its mostly not a strike. Also if you watch Marmols delivery its pretty violent with all the movement he's got and puts lots of stress on his right arm. I have also noticed that his arm angle seems to change from time to time which could be why most pitches are up in the zone. I think the Cubs thought Marmol had figured it out as he threw great his last three appearances but after yesterday it might be time to rethink that.

Sean was pumped for the first few innings as he wanted to make a good impression with his new team........ I sat near a few scouts and can't repeat what they had to say about Sean's performance tonight. He's so much more relaxed and loves that he's going to get the ball every fifth day..... =D>

Oh well it is a rental. Hopefully Gamel is in the deal as well. i know melvin is capable of some stupid moves, but i can't see that being a possibility. Why would this be a stupid move??? They already expect C.C. to test free agency at years end. Sheets is expected to try it also, if they both walk Brewers would end up with 5 of the top 51 picks in next years draft.....

Just read the same story at "MLB traderumors" that said deal was completed as the Brewers wanted to get two starts out of C.C.

At that point Gallagher won't be stretched out. Again not a fan of this move.
