  1. As a Cubs fan, I'm happy to say he is finally on the right side of the rivalry.
  2. Mark Prior's number? Whenever I see a number 22 for the Cubs I always think of Bill Buckner.
  3. Because they don't need to eat any of Lilly's contract to trade him, but they do Fukudome.
  4. I've looked for the picture but can't find it right now. However, it seems as though I have seen an old picture of Wrigley that had black wrought iron where the concrete slabs were. As I recall, it looked pretty good and classic.
  5. I totally agree. It's not like he wanted to go in as a Marlin or something. In this case, the Hall should have been fine with either the Expos or the Cubs.
  6. Yeah, they have Kyler in their projected starting line-up in 2012, but not in the Top 10 prospects. Seems like a disconnect there.
  7. Actually, it is voted on my the managers.
  8. Sean Marshall?
  9. I too missed DeRo and almost fell out of my chair when I realized it.
  10. Many things Chip did drove me crazy, and many have been touched upon already in this thread. Two things that haven't been mentioned drove me nuts too... He would get really excited about bunts and always yell, "and its a beauty!" For instance... "So and so squares around to bunt and its a beauty!" But, they often weren't that great, and sometimes he'd yell that and the pitcher would field it and force the guy at second. He also would say "could" when he should have been saying "would" too. For instance... Say the Cubs were down one in the bottom of the ninth with one runner on base. He'd say... "A home run here by Sosa could win it for the Cubs." No, a home run in that situation would definitely win it for the Cubs. Or maybe it was a 3-2 count with the bases loaded and he'd say, "A ball here could force in a run." In that situation a ball would force in a run, not could. He always seemed like a guy who didn't know much about the game so he tried to make up for it by being really enthusiastic. He also reminds me of Phil from the show Modern Family.
  11. It is somewhat true though. After the game last night I told my sons that Cardinals fans just got a little taste of what it is like to be Cubs fan.
  12. That's how I will always most remember it...the WGN house.
  13. Agreed. Also there isn't a lot of wandering around areas either. As far as the Red Line, that's a good call, but you might want to plan on getting a drink or a bite to eat after the game so the crowd at the El Station can thin out a bit.
  14. I'm 43-years-old and he is the first Cubs manager I remember. He seemed like he was in his 60s to me then. Seems odd to think he was only a little older then than I am now.
  15. I hope Looper didn't go to Notre Dame. Nope, Wichita State. Wichita State is in Hendry's old conference. Perhaps he loves MoVal guys just as much as he does ND guys.
  16. :( That...is beyond depressing. He needs to become a minority owner with whoever wins the bid. Maybe everyone is excited that he would put money in scouting and development, but isn't he saying the same things Andy MacPhail always got bashed for--be good enough to win the division and take your chance in the playoffs?
  17. I sat by Jamie Lynn Sigler in 1st class once. we ended up hooking up several times before I went with my friends back to New York. You shouldn't have said anything, Turtle.
  18. Wasn't the last Rule 5 guy who stuck with the Cubs for a season Rodney Myers?
  19. I won't mind rooting for Wood on the Indians. At least it's an AL team. :( One that routinely plays against the White Sox. And one that comes to Wrigley Field from June 19-21. I usually find it lame when guys come back here to St. Louis and the fans shower praise on them, i.e. Edmonds and Taguchi. But I think Woody deserves some recognition from the fans when he comes back for his time here. Thing is, if he comes in to try to close a game it would be weird to have the fans cheering him. My ideal situation would be for Wood to enter the game to a nice, robust, well-deserved standing ovation, followed 15 minutes later by the Cubs players on the field high-fiving each other and the crowd joyously singing Go Cubs Go after a come-from-behind win.
  20. Kaplan is clearly a Cubs fan, and I do think he is able to call around and talk to a lot of people about the Cubs, but I get the sense a lot of times that the people he is calling are scouts. Scouts can be a good source for a lot of things, but, in my opinion, probably are not the best source to go regarding trade talks. Today on Chicago Tribune Live he said he made a couple of calls and was told the Cubs could do either Dempster or Peavy, not both (I'm paraphrasing a bit). I don't know why, but to me it just felt like he was talking to people speculating as opposed to giving him inside information.
  21. From Cubs.com Where did you find this quote, because it's not right. Free agents can still sign with their previous team after the Thursday deadline. It's after the Thursday deadline that they lose exclusive negotiating rights. You're reading it wrong. It's saying that only the previous team can sign them before the deadline, not that the previous team can't sign them after the deadline. Really? I've read that second sentence, which appears to be cut off, several times, and it gives the appearance that the Cubs would not be able to negotiate with Dempster after Thursday. I swear I'm not hungover. It's written so that it's meaning is ambiguous (I'm sure not intentionally, but, still.) The "only" applies to which team, not when. That is, (before the deadline) the player can sign with only his previous team. After the deadline, the player can sign with any team. I can see why it could be read in a way that was not meant by the author. I think the word only is misplaced. It would have been more accurate to say, "Free agents can sign only with their previous team until then."
  22. Any chance Wood wants to start again and that option was not available to him with the Cubs?
  23. When I worked in Minor Leage baseball back in the early 90's, I didn't hire Vasgersian for a job with the Reno Silver Sox. His audition tape was very good, but I went with someone from my alma mater instead. The guy I hired is now a high school baseball coach and Vasgersian continues to excell at the highest level. I'd like to have a mulligan on that one.
  24. Sutcliffe is just about my least favorite baseball TV personality. Mark Grace is just about my least favorite personality. Yeah, mine too. He is, by far, my all-time least favorite Cubs star. I started to dislike him long before he left the Cubs. He always seemed so needy of affirmation. I always really liked Sutcliffe. As such, that certainly colors my views of their broadcasting abilities. So, Grace probably isn't as bad as I think he is and Sutcliffe probably isn't as good as he think he is.
