  1. What context are you hearing it in?
  2. I really doubt Frazier is going to happen. This is how it would probably play out if it did, but I see it as more of an irrational worry for me. I won't rest easy until someone else is hired, because Bears, but looking at it objectively, I just don't think he'll come out ahead given this candidate pool and (as you pointed out) how he compares to almost everyone else. I’ve always thought of Frazier as someone who was going to be in it until the end. I don’t remember if it was the Tribune or Athletic that had an article about him recently where Dungy was really praising him. Frazier was on Dungy’s staff with the Colts. We know who hired Dungy. Plus there is his Bears connection. Polian is also why I feel Caldwell is a serious candidate. Polian has already hired him to be a head coach once before. It will be Frazier as head coach and Caldwell as OC. That’s not what I want, but that’s what my gut keeps telling me.
  3. Yeah it seems to be a consistent enough theme that they're clearly making a concerted effort. On top of that too I assume that Kelly, if he doesn't get a full GM job here or elsewhere, seems likely to be the #2 in the new FO. It’s interesting as Polian has made some interesting comments about black players, specifically QBs, in the past Players? Or one player, when he gave the opinion he thought Jackson was better suited for wide receiver? He admitted he was mistaken about that and he also hired Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell with the Colts.
  4. Where can I watch this online?
  5. What does it really matter, either way? Does McCaskey making the hire on his own make you feel any better than Phillips? We just have to hope they manage to get it right, even if it's accidentally. Yes, because it means the next GM probably reports directly to George and not to Ted. I think that opens up more possibilities of people being interested, or at least not being scared away by the reporting structure.
  6. I think he just got his arm stuck in a giant piece of strawberry cake. So he should be fine once he gets a fork.
  7. Back to back someday. Just not with the Cubs.
  8. What in the hell is Myrtle Beach wearing? They look like spring break t-shirts.
  9. One of my biggest issues with him—and I acknowledge this is completely irrational—is that his name sounds like someone who would have played on the Cubs in the early 1900s. I could hear Boog saying, “He’s the first Cubs rookie to get a hit in his first five games since Frank Schwindel in 1912.”
  10. There are at least two reasonable paths in this thread alone to being good or better next year. TT's doesn't even involve the team spending big. Good or better than this embarrassment of a team that's on the field now? I agree that certainly doesn't take much effort or money. Marquez, Davis, and Steele look like the only prospects that will be in the ML sooner than 3 years from now and while all of them look like "good" prospects, the real "possible star" prospects are at least 3 years away. I don't think Hoyer and/or PTR is going to spend a ton of money this offseason because there's just too many holes to fill. After acquiring a couple of mid-tier FAs and seeing how Steele, Davis, etc. along with the rest of the 2022 roster perform, they might have a better idea of when the "possible star" prospects will make the team. You don’t think Davis is a “star” prospect?
  11. Giving a lot of people who do not deserve the benefit of the doubt the benefit of the doubt, I could see a scenario where they didn't think they were going to get enough to justify trading him and then this offer kinda blew all the others (Red Sox, etc) out of the water. But I think it's just easier for me to stay mad at PTR/Ross/etc. I don’t know why people would expect the Cubs (or any team for that matter) to let a player they are maybe trading take a final at bat or play a final game. I would have been super pissed if the trade fell through because he got hit by a pitch and broke his wrist just because we wanted him to have one last ovation.
  12. I'll be curious what the offers were. It sounds like Rizzo wasn't willing to take another discount. While I get it for the players perspective, from the Cubs perspective, he was declining and more nostalgia than a key piece of the next core. You know it is very possible that what Rizzo considered a discount is actually his market value. Let’s see what kind of contract he signs this offseason.
  13. I’m guessing it is his dad. It definitely isn’t Tom Ricketts.
  14. What is the story with Will Taylor? Keith Law said in his mock that he heard the Cubs were really in on him but that he would be long gone by the time they picked. He wasn’t taken at all. Is he considered too tough of a sign, did he get injured, or was Law just too high on him?
  15. Jake Arrieta (@JArrieta34) Tweeted: Whatever helps keep your hope alive, just know, it doesn't matter. @Cubs https://t.co/bJDN1wP0tS
  16. She did last year too but since the Cubs only played the Central you probably didn’t see any Braves games.
  17. But probably not in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles.
  18. Zach Davies has a better season than Yu Darvish.
  19. I thought he sounded exactly like...Pat Hughes
  20. The Cubs should fire whoever talked to her from the team. The Cubs' statement mentioned that both of them are gone already. I'm guessing not Theo or Scott Harris, as they're high enough profile they would have been named. But whoever it was had to be sufficiently high enough that you'd come to with a problem with one of Theo's lieutenants. Didn't the Cubs' old PR guy have some contentious relationships with reporters around the time of the Russell stuff? Based on the article it sounds like she is a Japanese reporter who was following the team. I wonder if she spoke with the team’s interpreter. Did we have a Japanese interpreter with the team in 2016?
  21. I’m almost 55 years old and have been pretty obsessed with the Cubs since I was 5. This is the most disgusted and disappointed I’ve ever been with a trade. The only other one close for me is the Lee Smith trade.
  22. Me too. Seems pretty underwhelming at this point.
  23. I think if Dak leaves Dallas, Indianapolis is much more likely than the Bears. And the Colts will have plenty of cap space.
  24. He’s telling us he doesn’t mind wearing a suit.
