  1. Not if it is news of teams no longer being in contention for him. They don’t give a rip at that point about secrecy and telling someone they are out but these teams seem to still be in.
  2. I also miss the Active Topics feature.
  3. Regarding moving Happ to first, one thing I’ve been wondering is could he play third? Came up as a second baseman, as you all know. Would thin out the outfield and fill third. Would provide the most flexibility when trying to fit in guys like Bellinger, Soto, PCA, Ohtani, Alonso, etc. Not saying we’d be adding all of them.
  4. I loved Dwayne Staats.
  5. The catcher knew it was so bad that he immediately went to calm down the batter so he wouldn’t get in trouble.
  6. I’m probably showing my age here, but I’m surprised posters on a Cubs message board have not heard of Andrew McKenna. He was a past chairman of the Cubs. He would be in the booth sometimes with Harry. Granted, that was a long time ago, so if you are under 50 you probably wouldn’t remember him. I feel old. :-)
  7. In this scenario using the #7 pick on a LB should be a firing offense. yeah. no, thank you I don’t think people were saying yes to that specific pick, they are saying yes to that trade.
  8. Welcome, Cardinals fans, to a world where every bunt is a BEAUTY!!!! (even if it is bunted right back to the pitcher) Seems like a pleasant enough guy, but if he wasn’t a Caray, he wouldn’t have gotten any of these jobs.
  9. Where do you see that? On BN there is an article saying they aren’t going to pursue him, based on a Paul Sullivan tweet.
  10. It is going to end up being Carlos Correa.
  11. It doesn’t really surprise me that much, though Brett will probably write a post about it for BN with a whole bunch of exclamation points in it.
  12. I wish someone at the Cubs convention would ask this question to Jed… “Seeing a Cubs game is one of the most expensive fan experiences in sports. Yet little investment has been made to the product on the field for the last four years. Do you think paying the money to see a Cubs game is intelligent spending by fans?”
  13. I don't see a meaningful difference between "worried the money will dry up" versus "worried the money will dry up unless the Cubs hit some undetermined benchmark of performance" Same. When I read Shadev’s response, I thought, “yeah, that’s basically what he said you said.”
  14. I actually think the relatively modest AAV is helpful to the Cubs chances. Perhaps a five or six year deal at 8 to 10 million more a year will seem more appealing now.
  15. What would everyone think of Sean Manaea? I’ve liked him for a while. Grew up in Valpo. Went to Indiana State. So he’d be near home. Not hearing anything about him though in free agency. I know he seemed to be pretty terrible for San Diego. Maybe a good buy low candidate?
  16. I appreciate the work but wow I hope he’s wrong. That would be a major bummer of an offseason. It's probably not as far off as we'd like, look at last off season all the smoke and noise around Carlos Correa. Who did they end up with? Andrelton Simmons - all of the above acquisitions are in the same mode. That is mediocre to bad players on the cheap. Well, I guess Abreu does not fall into the category of mediocre to bad, he's the outlier, the remainder of them certainly qualify. Did you forget about Stroman and Suzuki?
  17. It is going to take me a while to get used to the fact that going from Myrtle Beach to South Bend is a promotion and not a demotion. My brain is so used to it being the other way around.
  18. I think Boras and the Cubs are good with each other. Certainly he tries to get the best for his clients and he sometimes will offer a lot of public rhetoric, but that is posturing and I don’t think he’d keep a guy from signing with the Cubs. But when Correa changed agents it was reported that Boras would have to split the commission with the previous agent. When he signed essentially a one year deal speculation was that Boras was happy about that because he’d only have to split this year and then get all of the future deal. Whether that was a factor, I don’t know.
  19. We have Jorge at home, he's got all of the defensive liabilities but maybe not the bat and also he's a ginger Matt Murton? Clint Frazier.
  20. I’m glad he’s staying but I don’t think he had to be saved by the fans. I think he was sick last season and he probably also enjoyed some time off with other people being able to sub in for him. Prior to the lockout Marquee had a regular off-season show, and he was a big part of that. Definitely didn’t seem like he was being buried and on the way out.
  21. I think you are misreading that. Sounds like he is stressing that Poles did decide this on his own.
  22. If that is real, he also just gave his credit card number to everyone that sees the photo.
  23. I agree. Don’t punish a team for signing someone. Eliminate the stupid small market picks and turn them into compensatory picks for losing someone of note.
