  1. Picking a HS pitcher that your scouting loves, at #4 is also a way to end up with a damn good pitcher. I trust this FO will pick someone special with their forth pick.
  2. Watkins please. He looks like a smaller, uglier, less good at baseball, Anthony Rizzo.
  3. nabbing an injured upside guy in the 2nd is way different than making sure to get the right guy at the top of the first round. I wouldn't mind another Pierce Johnson situation. It's like getting a Pierce Johnson vs. a Rob Zystryzny.
  4. Yeah it's a bit hard to play advocate here. 2 months of Garza got us a top 50 pitching prospect and a guy who could be a long term 3B for us. On top of a couple throw ins who are legit upside types. No way is this FO going to accept a marginal top 100 SP and SS ( that we don't even need) and a throw in. for 2 years of Shark. They (or I), wouldn't do less than one top 40 SP, another top 100 SP, and 2 legit upsides at positions of need (C, OF, maybe more SPs).
  5. yay Funny, that was the same comment that came to my mind.
  6. How bout Have Your BYE-ez gas.
  7. I like the pitchers at the tippy top of this draft more. I would love one of Aiken, Kolek, Beede, or Rodon. I think all 4 would be great picks all with ace potential that our farm needs. And look at that, we pick forth.
  8. http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab30/16bitninja/sheriff-of-rottingham.jpg BAEZ "TO, WANT, I IF SUPERSTAR, A, BE I'LL YOU ****" JAVY, EDNEL!!
  9. And you're basing the bold on....what, exactly? meant the first part, kinda didn't the second part.
  10. Damn Javy hit another home run? If Hendry was in charge he'd be manning 2B the rest of ST and then break with the team. Better yet, he'd trade Castro for a bag of balls then have Javy take over SS. I'm sure our FO loves seeing this, but we all know they'll stick to the plan. Let Javy tear up AAA for a couple months, get some practice at 2B, maybe learn not to hack at everything, then bring him up. But I'm not sure if he will ever learn not to hack at everything if he can hit 40 HR.
  11. Are we talkin possible top 4 pick here? If so fine with me, more guys to allow Beede or Kolek to fall. Or heaven forbid even this guy if he's worth the pick. Look at the bottom of the last page. Law thinks he has a legitimate case for 1.1. Nice. So how long until someone starts the whole "I'm Aiken to draft him" thing? Oh wait, too late. Sorry.

  13. Besides Baez who is there right now and Bryant, who is on the doorstep? Jimenez and Soler have the highest ceilings outside of Baez so they'd be the easy choice. Maybe Torres if he moves quickly, his bat plays well and sticks at SS. Tseng, Blackburn and Edwards don't have ace ceilings so I can't see it for them; Almora's ceiling is lower than your normal top 5 prospect so I can't see it with him. Yeah I think t hat about sums it up. Tseng and Blackburn probably have top 50 upside at most. Almora will remain a top 20 type, but I could see Bryant next year if he stays in the minors all year. He is probably the next one up. After that Jiminez is our hope of being the next big thing.
  14. If you had to pick one young guy, that has that ability if everything just breaks right, to be a top 5 across baseball prospect in their prospecty prime (21-23yo). Who in our system could pull that off? Jiminez, Tseng, Blackburn? Maybe Edwards, Almora have a shot next year?
  15. Was nice to see the list, I was waiting for a long time. Would liked to have seen Zystryzny and Tseng make the top 20, but otherwise those are some solid names. A much better put together list than years previous thanks to Callis helping Mayo this year.
  16. Today's our day woot woot! Get to see MLB's new Cubs top 20 list. Wonder what new guys that weren't on the list last year might make an appearance? Zystryzny? Tseng? Hendricks? Black? Jimminez? Can't wait to see how it compares to our top 20. (we obviously already know the order of the top 7).
  17. Something worth watching this year. Usually not interested after the prospects are gone. But it will be interesting to follow how Olt is doing.
  18. Way too early to tell. We have a lot of talent that could be great. We have a huge pool of guys to either stick with at certain positions or trade for some quality talent to fill our holes. Rizzo, Castro, Shark, Wood, Arrieta, Vizciano, Baez, Bryant, Alcantara, Almora, Olt, Villanueva, Soler, Vogelbach, CJ Edwards, Johnson and more that could be guys up in 2016 or used in packages to bring in some elite talent where we need it (guessing high end pitching).
  19. Great insight. Thanks for that. They have like one pitcher, maybe 2 at most on their board. I think if neither of those 2 are left they will take a bat, no matter how good people think the remaining pitcher still available is. What I'm saying is, our FO scouting is so good, there might only be 1 or 2 pitchers they absolutely love that they would be willing to buck their "bat first" mentality they've had since they got here. Better for you? Yes. I no longer demand a refund on your posting. I can sleep easy.
  20. If you are a prospect porner, make sure to catch MLB Tonite at 6:00 p.m. central (MLB Network) because tonight is the Cubs turn in the "30 clubs in 30 days" segment. Fri March 14, we're up boyz!
  21. Sounds like Gatewood has passed Jackson as the top prep bat (or reclaimed the title). And this isn't just based on Law's chat from earlier today. They'll take the top power bat, whoever it is. If their pitcher isn't there. Almora = Top power bat???? FWIW, I don't think he was talking about the 2012 draft. No, I just mean. We've seemed to have built up this core of high power guys. I think the idea of having a core of 4-5 guys in the line-up that can just outslug you is kind of nice. I actually think they'll take the most elite talent that is still on the board (like duh). But adding another crazy good bat like Gatewood or Jackson to Baez, Bryant, Olt, Rizzo, Soler, and heck even Almora (can't say he's not a great hitter with "decent" power potential). Would be pretty insane.

  24. If the Cubs believe that Olt is "fixed" and is a potential long term Major League player, is there any chance they send him back to AAA for a few months so he doesn't accumulate the service time? He would only need to stay down a few more weeks than Baez. With his age and the organizational depth at 3B, I don't expect they would send him to AAA if they believe he is ready, but I wouldn't put it past this front office to want to buy themselves another year. I believe they would be better off giving Villanueva all the reps at 3B in AAA and starting Olt in the majors. Gives us the chance to showcase another above average trade chip every day at his natural position. Which one is the trade chip in this scenario? Whichever one gives them the biggest return.
  25. I would be ok with Olt succeeding, Javy being called up in the summer, and having to settle for a 15-20 draft pick in 2015. Would rather get this ball rolling and have the ML team be exciting for once.
