  1. PURPLE DRANK, SON.
  2. Yeah, I mean, my comments aside, I'm not saying I'd HATE it. Just saying that if our payroll is really as limited as it has been made out to be, and assuming it'd come out of player payroll, I'd rather not spend upwards of $5M on a manager. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 3m3 minutes ago My guess on Joe Maddon: He eventually winds up with the Cubs. I'm totally drinking the Maddon Kool-Aid; I could be convinced that Maddon for $5 million would do more for the Cubs winning than, say, the better starting pitcher the extra money might land.
  3. Take away your disinterest in the Bears and I would say it's all about getting older, getting married and having kids. I stopped watching non-Bears primetime games a lonngggggggggg time ago. There's too much other stuff in life to be bothered by those things. I will on occasion throw them on, but that is about it. I do not think it is at all about over-the-top coverage of the NFL. That is very easy to avoid, if not completely ignore. I also gave up sports radio long ago but that is because it is stupid and pointless. It has nothing to do with being sick of football, it's just being sick of people who get paid to argue about sports. The fact that you also have lost interest in watching the Bears seems a bit different than my situation. I have definitely wandered away from the TV to do other stuff during the game, mostly pouring another drink or stirring/flipping whatever food I am making. But I still look forward to those games and have it front and center. Same here with a lot of this. Main thing for me was giving up fantasy sports a few years ago and how much football talk, whether on the radio or with friends, revolves around that. Or it seems to veer into college football, which I could not loathe more. Combine that with how frustrating the Bears are and how scumbag-y the NFL is in general and I have zero interest in watching it much.
  4. Maddon is literally the one guy I'd have no problem overpaying when it comes to hiring a manager. That said, Theo probably has a plan to snag Francona within a year or so, so it's likely all moot.

  7. This is always a ton of fun. Thanks for doing it, SP. And I will not rest until sneaky gets the asterisk he deserves.
  8. Plus his poor brat isn't vaccinated, so he's likely on death's door every other week.
  9. Yup..keep gobbling up the neighborhood more and more and build parking. Destroy the cesspool.
  10. Kind of expected that. Giants are a west coast team and boring, and Kansas City is a tiny market. Although their story is great, they don't have a lot of household names, and I think the 'irrelevant for 30 years' story actually works against them for the casual fan. The 5 day break between the LCS and WS didn't help in terms of momentum either. The break is just ridiculous. Yeah, I get the reasons, but it still kills things. You've gotta dodge football, but man, it's hard to keep people hooked when it's almost a week off.

  12. Did you see the minutes played? They were not overplayed. This was the first time that Rose had played any significant 4th quarter minutes in the preseason, and he still only played 24 minutes. Four of the Cleveland starters played more minutes than any of the Bulls did. I know Thibs is crazy, but this was not an issue last night. Yeah. If anything, the Cavs were the team that treated this like a regular season game (and I believe they said as much going in). TIPPING POINT.

  14. There's nothing subtle about it; I think you're terrible. Yeah, the radio meatballs are disappointed with the way the offense has underperformed, and rightly so, but to try and say there's haven't been a bunch of people that have been railing on Cutler for years is just ridiculous. From day one you had people who thought they gave up too much to get him and it's just spiraled from there. And yes, there's plenty of reasons to be critical of Cutler, but to say that widespread anti-Cutler sentiment in the local press is a new thing is just flat out wrong. And no, the Score isn't reasonable, and how did they give Cutler and Trestman a "pass" for the offense last year? The offense was good last year; that's why we're all so frustrated with how bad/inconsistent it's been this year.
  15. This. 100% This. At what point do you join the loud chorus of people who have given up on Cutler? Just curious. Obviously from a national perspective, pretty much everyone already has. I think this is the first year that locally I've seen the beat reporters and the radio guys starting to dump on him and think of him as a wildly erratic and inconsistent starter. Apparently you've paid as much attention to local sports press as you do to Cutler's actual numbers; it's been a cliche shtick on the radio shows alone to have one goon be pro-Cutler and one goon be anti-Cutler for years now. The papers and blogs have had plenty of anti-Cutler pieces over the years. None of it's new.
  16. I'm gonna smash a plate over my head and scream "WRONG" at the first nerd that tries to mention the Blackhawks.
  17. Thank God for the Bulls. They will singlehandedly save this godforsaken town.
  18. Why, has he stopped being a hobo?
  19. Christ, I'd figured they'd get a couple of useful years out of Allen. What a wretched signing.
  20. Tom made it into clothes.
