  1. Honestly, Lake would probably be a better fastball reliever than Schlitter.
  2. Why are you clapping? http://i.imgur.com/wE3udIk.jpg
  3. I think he's graciously waiting for everyone else to get their dongs in gear so he doesn't completely shame them.
  4. Eh; that link kinda got it wrong anyways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Graham_Bell#Metal_detector
  5. Unless the reviewer just didn't mention it, the story of how Bell's metal detector failed isn't covered in the book...or at least not covered the same. it was covered in detail ...ok, but the review you linked to described the problem as stemming from the doctor not letting Bell work on the correct side, when the problem was the false positive from the metal spring mattress which Bell didn't even know was even a thing. it's a book the reviewer can't summarize the entire thing The point of the story is that the doctor's killed him by ignoring the concept of sterilization. They were digging in there looking for the bullet with dirty hands before Bell even showed up on the scene. Yeah, the treatment is a huge part of the book, but the metal detector is just one small part of a much bigger story. Why would someone expect a review to mention everything covered in a book? That's an odd expectation.
  6. Jake, you're cool as hell, but I am [expletive] sick of the Pirates already.
  7. The NL had two more teams for most of that time. NL teams averaged more HRs than AL teams three times in that period. In 2001, 2007, 2008. http://media.giphy.com/media/13py6c5BSnBkic/giphy.gif
  8. One super cool guy, you mean.
  9. Yeah, well, people are dumb apes.
  10. Why does there have to be a "crisis point?" The game as a whole has moved steadily towards the DH on all levels with few exceptions. The lowering of the mound wasn't simply a panicked response to what happened the season before; it was a response to a prolonged period of lopsided pitching vs. hitting performances. Adding the DH to the NL now would largely be a response to an extended period of slipping offensive production.
  11. Baseball isn't 9 vs. 9; even without the DH you have pinch hitters/fielders/runners and relief pitchers who only play certain parts of the game they enter. It's 25 vs. 25, and even then we're talking semantics since the team is filled with role players and specialists.
  12. Yes, thank you. I was gonna try and Derwood that out a while, but your ways is much better. I wasn't asserting that #9 AL hitter were as bad as pitchers, you doof http://replygif.net/i/915.gif
  13. You're making my point for me; they will only break your heart. I will never let them in again.
  14. Yes, thank you. I was gonna try and Derwood that out a while, but your way is much better.
  15. Just 10 minutes, guys. 10 minutes.
  16. Target that shoulder.
  17. The DH doesn't magically get rid of bad hitters on the team. There's never going to be enough good hitters to fill the starting lineups of all the teams. The DH doesn't magically mean "ALL THE DONGS" either No, but it does means more dongs. And I seriously doubt that the #9 spot in the AL puts up comparable numbers with the pitchers' spot in the NL.
  18. The DH doesn't magically get rid of bad hitters on the team. There's never going to be enough good hitters to fill the starting lineups of all the teams.
  19. Opponents of the DH often throw out things like "why not just have 9 DH's and 9 designated fielders?!?" and in all honestly I'd probably enjoy that a lot for the reasons you laid out. You could end up with some really entertaining specialized talents. Think of it like how teams are broken up in the NFL.
  20. The difference, to me, strategy-wise is negligible. There IS a difference; one league has a clear advantage over the other and they have to play each other. It's just a point in terms of the scope of the game; it's not like we're only talking about the MLB and minors and amateurs. Almost all collegiate and international leagues use it in some fashion, too. It's simply not just an NL vs. AL issue. It's the NL vs. almost everyone else.
  21. Bottom line, this is THE argument that's unavoidable; the DH is used in some way by almost every major baseball organization except for the NL and Japan's Central League. It's simply not realistic to think all of that is going to reverse and that it'll go away, and it's pointless to put the NL at a disadvantage because of what amounts to little more than emotional attachment. Something has to give to do away with the disparity, and the NL adopting the DH is what's by far the most realistic option.
  22. Things like 3 catchers actually becomes far less of a problem.
