  1. That strikes me as very unlikely. The NL DH is tantamount to the end of pitchers distinguishing themselves with the bat. That's not much of a loss.
  2. Man, if you're thinking I know everything then prepare to be disappointed. A LOT.
  3. D'oh, that's right. Can the pitcher be the DH? But sticking with the rest, it seems kind of goofy to have to pinch hit for the DH if the starting pitcher exits the game early.
  4. The DH is usually hitting in place of the pitcher, but not always. Besides, let's say the player they're hitting in place off goes down with an injury in the second; they're supposed to now put in a pinch-hitter instead? If they're hitting for the pitcher, do they have to change the DH every time the pitcher changes?
  5. They already suckered Lester in; take Ross out for a drive to a farm in the country. What's Lester going to do?
  6. Plus it's not like teams wouldn't still have the option to use a rare freak like Zambrano who both wants to hit and can hit.
  7. His point might have been that some pitchers prefer pitching in the NL b/c they actually want to hit. Yes, I know;I sincerely doubt there are many MLB pitchers that are going to turn down better deals to pitch in the AL, regardless of what they prefer. Guys that go out of their way to actually do that over the course of their careers are likely very scattered outliers. So, no, it's not likely going to be a union issue because of "NL pitchers."
  8. There's no such thing as an "NL Pitcher." "Man, there is NO WAY I will ever ever ever pitch in the AL; it's a lock that I will be pitching forever in the league I'm pitching in right now."
  9. Honestly, Lake would probably be a better fastball reliever than Schlitter.
  10. Why are you clapping? http://i.imgur.com/wE3udIk.jpg
  11. I think he's graciously waiting for everyone else to get their dongs in gear so he doesn't completely shame them.
  12. Eh; that link kinda got it wrong anyways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Graham_Bell#Metal_detector
  13. Unless the reviewer just didn't mention it, the story of how Bell's metal detector failed isn't covered in the book...or at least not covered the same. it was covered in detail ...ok, but the review you linked to described the problem as stemming from the doctor not letting Bell work on the correct side, when the problem was the false positive from the metal spring mattress which Bell didn't even know was even a thing. it's a book the reviewer can't summarize the entire thing The point of the story is that the doctor's killed him by ignoring the concept of sterilization. They were digging in there looking for the bullet with dirty hands before Bell even showed up on the scene. Yeah, the treatment is a huge part of the book, but the metal detector is just one small part of a much bigger story. Why would someone expect a review to mention everything covered in a book? That's an odd expectation.
  14. Jake, you're cool as hell, but I am [expletive] sick of the Pirates already.
  15. The NL had two more teams for most of that time. NL teams averaged more HRs than AL teams three times in that period. In 2001, 2007, 2008. http://media.giphy.com/media/13py6c5BSnBkic/giphy.gif
  16. One super cool guy, you mean.
  17. Yeah, well, people are dumb apes.
  18. Why does there have to be a "crisis point?" The game as a whole has moved steadily towards the DH on all levels with few exceptions. The lowering of the mound wasn't simply a panicked response to what happened the season before; it was a response to a prolonged period of lopsided pitching vs. hitting performances. Adding the DH to the NL now would largely be a response to an extended period of slipping offensive production.
  19. Baseball isn't 9 vs. 9; even without the DH you have pinch hitters/fielders/runners and relief pitchers who only play certain parts of the game they enter. It's 25 vs. 25, and even then we're talking semantics since the team is filled with role players and specialists.
  20. Yes, thank you. I was gonna try and Derwood that out a while, but your ways is much better. I wasn't asserting that #9 AL hitter were as bad as pitchers, you doof http://replygif.net/i/915.gif
  21. You're making my point for me; they will only break your heart. I will never let them in again.
  22. Yes, thank you. I was gonna try and Derwood that out a while, but your way is much better.
  23. Just 10 minutes, guys. 10 minutes.
  24. Target that shoulder.
