It's flat-out bizarre how many Cubs fans seem to buy the "Castro is a terrible SS" narrative. The only way he gets moved off of SS is if he's traded or if Baez or Russell are drastically better...and they're not. Established players are not moved for rookies because of negligible defensive differences.

Nobody would have a problem with him hitting further down in the lineup. You're the one extrapolating that to "he's not hitting well, so he needs to be moved off of SS because they can't find room for Baez otherwise" which is right up there with that guy who thought Darwin Barney was somehow blocking David DeJesus.

Plus it seems like plenty of people have talked about both Baez and (especially) Russell as being likely to bulk up as they get older.

People with well-kept bowlcuts and mullets probably tell themselves that, too.

The difference between them is likely negligible enough that it's nowhere near the problem you desperately want it to be. Castro isn't playing even remotely close to being bad enough that he needs to be moved off of SS. And, again, if someone has to go to 3B, wouldn't you want it to be the guy who probably has the better arm? You need a stronger arm for SS than 3B Depends on the play.

You're determined to see Castro as a horrible player, but he's established himself at SS just fine for years, and players like that typically don't get bumped unless the replacement is a God-mode-level improvement or they get traded. You're pining for something that doesn't typically happen and doesn't need to happen for these players, and the team, to succeed.

Because Castro's probably better at SS than 3B and they're trying to get Russell comfortable at 2B. Baez seemingly has a stronger arm, so why can't he play 3B?

BAEZ WAS WORSE THAN COGHLAN. Christ, I get what you're saying, but you keep acting like they have to make all kinds of ridiculous moves to try and fit these guys on the team and they don't. Baez has had a decent stretch lately, but there's little need to rush him back after how catastrophically bad he was. Let him keep getting better, then start playing him at 3B and/or LF and then bring him up if he keeps it up. Worst case scenario they end up getting an extra year of control on him, which helps if they end up keeping him or trading him.

Nobody is happy with his offensive production right not; needlessly bumping him to a new fulltime defensive position doesn't seem like the smartest way to try and kick start his production. Despite your histrionics over last night's loss, he's not some kind of defensive liability that needs to be moved.

Stop this nonsense. the love for castro is mind boggling. You've bragged about not following the team at all for years and seemingly can't decipher his stats to realize that outside of one season he's been a very valuable player, but you think people wanting him to get better is "mind boggling?" Him playing isn't preventing Russell from doing anything.

Why is it imperative to swap him and Russell? Just drop him in the lineup and let him work through it.

Not even a month ago we were loving Castro getting positive national press and making awesome goofy faces. Now we've overrun with semi-literate monsters who want to run him off with torches and pitchforks. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS.
